FLINT ISLAND

I was recently reminded by a fellow ESB regular that on 13th August 2008 marked exactly 25 years since Colin Jones had his rematch with Milton McCory for the WBC World Welterweight title out in Las Vegas Neveda.
Unforunatlety in a era before all the paper champion bullshit - Jones came just up short for the title that the legendary Sugar Ray Lenoard vacated.
Jones was knocked down in the first round - the only official knockdown of his career - this might just have cost him the fight.
he lost a split decsion.
As regular ESB members may know - I have a special interest in this as Jones is a local fighter where I come from.
He learnt his trade at the boxing shed behind my back garden.
I have posted pictures of this boxing shed in another thread.
Some have questioned the truthfullness of these pictures.
But I can assure you the pictures are true - and this is where Colin Jones trained from 9 years old - he also trained up in Eddie Thomas gym in Merthy Tdyfil.
To remeber the fight 25 years on I shot a little video of the first round to show the knockdown that cost Jones the WBC title
(my apologies for the poor quality)
