I know this is the British forum, but fuck it ye took over our count....nevermind:D

Anyways, basically most Irish posts on this site come here because we have a keen interest or lack of interest in certain fighters this side of the water!

So Ireland sent 5 boxers to China, all doing very well so far!
Paddy Barnes, Kenny Egan, John Joe Joyce, John Joe Nevin and Darren Sutherland

JJ Joyce got knocked out today, an 11-11 draw but lost on fuckin countback. Heard he was hard done by!

I haven't seen much due to work, but who has impressed you and has any of them a real chance of a medal? Egan maybe?

The holding in Joyce's fight was fucking ridiculous. And again, couple of decent bodyshots not registering. He should have won that.

I saw Egan this morning, he looked decent. Who do you think might pick up a medal?

You may have to be a resident of the Rep Of Ireland, not sure

He wasnt at the top of his game today, he let two rounds slip by before adapting

Egan or Nevin but Egan obviously cause he has one fight to win before hes in a semi!

Nevin is quality imo, think he has a hard draw though

Same way we can't watch their BBC links to the Olympics.
Nevin's route will unfortunately probably end tomorrow, there is a good chance that the Mongolian is the strongest fighter left at Bantamweight. A different route and Nevin may very well have medalled. If he pulls it off tomorrow it would be something special.

Egan has a great chance of a medal now, I actually think he'll make the final now.

Sutherland is in with a chance but will have his work cut out trying to reverse Blanco.

I'm not too hopeful with Barnes.

Young Nevin beaten, good effort though.

Britain includes Ireland so feel free to post about your guys on here. Egan looked pretty decent even though he went down from a soft punch, he could pull off a medal and should beat Tony although Egan has never had a great chin.

Sutherland is best Irish in the Olimpics. He will win medal, im sure on that .

Was Joyce that pudding who did nothing but hold whilst the other guy was trying to fight?

That's about as factual as saying Ireland includes Britain but thanks for being so inclusive anyway.

Big day tomorrow with both Barnes and Sutherland fighting the last 16.
I reckon a win for Sutherland and a loss for Barnes.

If we are splitting hairs then you could say we are different but I really do not mind you guys being around.

Forget the Irish, nothing really wow about any of them.

Bantamweight Akhil Kumar from India looks like an amateur Naz clone and got a good win over Sergey Vodopyanov today.

Oleskandr Usyk and Lomanchenko from the Ukraine also stand out.

Its a pity Kumar is already 27, he is probably to old to turn pro, and make a success of it.

True, although I bet he could pack in the punters even if he got a mickey mouse WC title in India.

He could make ridiculous amounts of money. The Indians appear to love faced paced action, such as T20 cricket - perhaps boxing could carve out a niche.

Beeston,

Do you remember years back Maloney signed up some former Indian HW amateur champ and gave him a ring name along the lines of Sugar Kumar. Saw him box a few times and he stunk the place out. If you thought Greenberg was a plodder then this Kumar was the mother of all plodders.

Akhil Kumar is a different kettle of fish as pointed out by you, he is fast, has some talent and with an Indian versio of FW he could get a WBU, WBF, IBA type belt and make lots of money.

The Ukrainian HW (Usyk) also looks very good, no doubt some german promoter will sign him up after the Olympics.

Nah, only been watching boxing seriously for about four years!

There would be plenty of interest, they could have him fighting as a curtain raiser to a Test match or ODI - he could have Tendulkar or MS Dhoni as his reserve second and that would be all. The people would soon be smitten!

I don;t see boxing making a big impression in India. They are cricket mad. No other sport comes close there. After cricket, hockey is the most 'popular' sport and that gets very little publicity.

Suppose so, I remember it being on SSN when MS Dhoni went for a haircut.

Only a million of the fuckers trying to get a peek - the police operation for his haircut was bigger than the one for the recent terrorist bus explosion :patsch

It is true that Mr Tendulkar has to wear a fake tash when walking in public, and has a police escort to the cinema, which is open to him exclusively at 3am.

I remember that, fucking crazy. Doesn't even happen to the likes of David Beckham.

I think it is difficult to comprehend, Beckham is probably loved and hated in equal measure - whilst cricketers in India are like little tin gods.

Cricket is truely the national sport in India. EVERONE young or old follows the national team. They might not care about the domestic game(pre IPL) but they're nuts about 'Team India.'

With Sutherland going tomorrow for a place in the semis its possible that 3 out of 5 of the Irish boxers get bronzes at least

Nothing 'wow' about them? Maybe not but not bad for a country our size eh?
