View Full Version : Official Boycott Of Sky Box Office September 6th Card!!!

This is just not on.
The card featrures 1 world title fight, with a guy who did not even win a title in the ring, fight an average opponent.
Amir Khan agaisnt an unheard of Columbian who has only fought 2 guys with decent records.
Audley Harrison agaisnt a Taxi Driver.
and severall other low key fights.
I have been a big supporter of Khan as many of you well know, but this is ludicrous. Luckily I am in a position where £15 is not that much to me, its the principal for me. We should be getting charged extra money for this bullshit.
This is the official thread to boycott this card. DO NOT BUY IT UNDER ANY CIRCUMSTANCES.
the email adress to make complaints to is [Only registered and activated users can see links]
Everyone on here should make a complaint. Were supposed to be in a fucking credit crisis, and Sky and Frank Warran have the cheek to charge us for this.
If the is anyway of making this a sticky please do so.
This is a decent card but definitely not PPV worthy. I doubt anyone on here would buy it.

I refuse to pay for basic Sky, let alone Sky Sports, let alone a Sky Sports PPV card.
If I did have Sky, though, even though I'm actually a (mild) supporter of Khan, there's no way I'd shell out for this fight.
Although, actually, there's some intriguing fights on the undercard, so I can see a lot of hardcore fans complaining then shelling out anyway.
robpalmer135

its a joke, this would only be slightly acceptable if a Card from the states was on later.
****** and Sky seem to think that having Khan headline will sell the fight to the general public and people will buy it.
It's the same with Bob Arum putting Julio Cesar Chavez Jr. on PPV in America and have him fight nobodies.
On the same night we have;
At Houston (HBO): Juan Diaz vs. Michael Katsidis, 10 rounds, lightweights; Jorge Barrios vs. Rocky Juarez, 10 rounds, junior lightweights
I really hope Setanta pick this card up.

he has signed a 20 fight deal with SKY BOX OFFICE!
Beeston Brawler
08-15-2008, 11:50 AM
The 20 fight deal is ****** and Sky - not Khan and Sky.
The gravy train will come to an abrupt end soon, make no mistake about it.
I feel the BBBoC ought to be refusing to sanction the following:
Commonwealth title matches
Interalphabetty matches
WBO/WBU etc matches
I think everyone is aware of my feelings on the Commonwealth and Interalphabetty titles, basically an excuse to line up a succession of bums and make the uninitiated think that something special is going on, when quite honestly, it ain't.
WBO and WBU titles are the bain of pretty much every boxing fans existence - again, allowing guys to build up padded records against bums and claim that they are a world champion :patsch
The hard work done by Sky to re-establish the British and European titles working with Maloney, Hearn, Hennessy et al has just been totally blown away in one fell swoop.
Hopefully Setanta will pick up the baton and really piss on Sky's coverage, which, to be honest, has been piss poor of late.

How they can have meaningless fights on PPV is totally beyond me. You have Amir fighting a guy who is all smoke and mirrors (yet again) and what basically amounts to a European title fight between Cook and Arthur - with a load of young SN prospects fighting the usual merry go round of bums.
Sky ought to be ashamed.
Diablo
08-15-2008, 01:00 PM

I'd bought every Sky boxing PPV for about 7 years and by the time Hatton has finished his snoozefest with Malignaggi it will be three in a row that I have missed. Sky really need to re-examine what they consider to be PPV-worthy.

Sky are desperately looking for a way to keep their foothold now that the recession's starting to hit. Sadly, their dreadful sports department keep buying the sort of shit that will never give them a foothold.
****** knows their current programmers are idiots and not the same guys who finally got sick of him four years ago - so he's just chancing it. He needs to generate cash for his dwindling empire and Khan is his only real star on the books (Arthur still can't sell out in Edinburgh, Macca's a non-entity and Mitchell's a euro-level guy waiting to step up).
Khan is the breadwinner that Joe used to be, but he can't face that same level of competition because he will get trashed and the money train is OVAH! - so really, ******'s fucked. He can't push his boy to world-level because all the current titlists will hand him his arse, so he has to keep the money coming in, keep the train on the rails until a he can have the title made vacant and negotiate Khan that way.
From that point on, Khan will not face any good opponent in their prime ever again.
Totally agree.
If you go back five years, he had Hatton, Calzaghe and plenty of others packing out arena's up and down the country for peanuts whilst he was making a shit load of money.
Now those guys have realised that they are indeed world class and can make decent money elsewhere on a bigger stage, he is fucked. Because he refuses to 'take a punt' on someone, preferring to pad them out with bums and having them lose their sharpness before being exposed at the highest level.

i try and avoid giving Murdoch my money wherever possible, although i do watch the football in the pub sometimes (dodgy satellite link is ideal). To pay ****** and Murdoch extra money for such a card is unthinkable for me, purely on principle.
It's no good for the sport, but i will be watching a live stream as per normal. The sport could be massive again if the people in power were brought to heel a little. The floating public have been pushed away from the sport for too long.

The thing is Amir is popular amongst the Northern Asian population and the fight will sell.
not in my experience. i've got plenty of cousins / family friends who love amir khan and have been completey sucked in by the itv hype...however, none of them are big enough boxing fans to pay 15 quid for an event.
more likely they'll find someone with a chipped cable box and go round his house.

Do Sky release their PPV figures? I know the Yank channels do, I be really interested to see if they manage to sell this.
I'd love to know how many actually buy this PPV. I doubt many real boxing fans will buy it but I'm intrigued about the more casual fans.
Think Sky may have overestimated Khan's popularity - going from free to air TV to shelling out £15 for Sky box office is quite a leap.
Also, those who do buy it this time round may not be so willing next time if this bill fails to impress on the night.
I hope the decision backfires or I fear we will just get more of the same and there will be little incentive for them to raise their game.

Going from watching him for free against nobodys, when he signed for sky i thought it was enough that i will be paying for Sky and skysports on top of that to watch a good domestic(mebe euro) fighter fighting a nobody with a hot air record. but nope sky and frank think amir has turned into ricky hatton over night and now some how see the potential of making lotsa money by getting him on PPV, good job sky and frank youve out done your selves this done.

I honestly don't think Khan interests the casual fans enough so they'll pay £15 to watch him against a guy they've never heard of. Most people I know will watch him in the pub on a Saturday night if he's on, but arn't too arsed if they miss it.

because they want more money than you
they want more property than you
they want more cars and material possessions than you
they want to reitre early with a bigger pension than you
Khan and Hatton are all about being rich and as well off sa they possibly can be
if they got £10 million
they want £10 million more
its as simple as that

The fuckers havn't even been bothered to insert the 'Sky Box Office Event' that you've complained about, its just a pre-written Email generated for all those type of complaints telling people politely to either like it or lump it.
The only 'effort' they've made is to put 'Rob' at the start, hardly enough evidence to be letting Sky and ****** (ie. the broadcaster and the promoter of the PPV) off the hook and pinning all the blame on Khan and Hatton.
