Valdez. He is plain & simple the better fighter.
I see Valdez by late stoppage.

Minter gets bloodied up yet again, en route to a late stoppage. Alan was as strong as a bull, but his physical strength could be neutralized by superior punching power (as Hagler demonstrated), and his head movement wasn't proficient enough for him to avoid getting carved up by Valdez.

Valdez was not good against fighters that used a lot of lateral movement and boxed carefully. He couldn't cut off the ring at all and was a bit too Trinidad-esque for my liking.Anyone want to see how good Valdez was against a pure boxer should watch the Rudy Robles and first Corro fights(where he was past it but not shot and Corro is so inept that i can't help but hold it against him).

MInter would be competitive on the way to losing by cuts around the 9th-10th.He's not elusive or cautious enough to trouble Valdez like those other fighters.

Minter has the better resume between the two, IMO.

Minter leads the going early...then the powerful Valdez starts to reel him in...Valdez by KO in 11 with Minter barely ahead on the cards.

Rodrigo Valdez was several levels above Minter in class. He would have ripped Alan's eyes to shreds and hurt him as well, causing a quick tko in 2 or 3, much as Hagler won over Minter.

I dynno cobra, Minter was a lot better against Tonna in both fights than Valdez was and he never would have struggled with Robles like Valdez did.he does have some advantages here.

I'd take Valdez but it wouldn't be easy at all imo..not many of Valdez' fights against good jabbing boxers were for him.

I agree, and actually waited to read your comments when the thread was started. Valdez is better on many levels but head to head it'll be competitive for some time prolly. Certainly no just have to turn up to win fight for Valdez.

Valdez was a helluva fighter and overall probably was the best of the 70s middles after Monzon, however i've never really agreed with the line of thinking that he would have been an all-timer had there been no Carlos.

He'd have lost a couple at vital times or struggled enough where i think he'd probably be seen in a similar light as he is now-an excellent near-great type.

I'm not really impressed with his resume, IMO both minter and antuofermo beat the better fighters.

You put me in the identical boat. Your logic is impossible for me to ignore on this one.

I thought Vito beat Minter in the first fight and Minter went to war with Hagler(a mistake) his skin did not hold up, but Minter was a good middle, Valdez could hit also but was a skilled fighter also....I think barring cuts it goes to a decision for Valdez but Minter has a live chance
