A counterpuncher's wet dream is a fight against a guy like Baldomir who never stops coming forward because they'll never look better than in a fight where they don't have to press the action.

Baldo was Tailor made for Vernon. Has anyone else looked great against Bhop or Wright?? They have two of the hardest styles to fight in the sport.

:huh Forrest not only pressed the action. He kept sticking it into Baldomir's face all night.
Forrest fought backing up or movin away most of the fight and took advantage of Baldo jumping in and leaving himself open. There were a handful of instances that Vernon fought coming forward, but the reason that fight was exciting was because Baldomir kept coming forward and taking the shots. When Baldomir wasn't coming forward, there wasn't much going on. Vernon showed a little aggressiveness, but primarily counterpunched or threw a lead shot. It was effective, but he wasn't pressing the fight.
Don't get me wrong, Vernon clearly won the fight and accounted very well for himself- but let's not forget it was against a guy who fits his style perfectly.

Prime for prime Vernon wrecks Quartey. :deal

Winky wasn't shot, he was 170 lbs and out of shape. Bernard isn't shot, he's 42 years old and fights ugly, but wins.

Thing #3. Forrest would beat Mayorga every time. With a good left shoulder and elbow.
Not if he keeps stepping straight back all the time allowing Mayorga to jump in on him like that and whack him at will. Bad shoulder and elbow still doesn't mean you get spanked like that.
Two fights and he still couldn't figure that shit out. Lucky for him, Baldomir has only a regular pair of legs and can't cut the distance as quick as Mayorga does.
Maybe he'll get smart next time and use a wee bit of lateral movement.
But Winky and Hopkins will know exactly how to handle Forrest's jab-step back-and-counter style.

The One Thing I learned from reading your thread:
You overrate Vernon Forrest big time

You did great with the first TWO. You're on you're own with the rest!!!
Vernon did flash the OLD VIPER again and it was wonderful to see such A CLASS ACT AND SOLID HUMAN BEING have a return to excellence:yep
Forrest is definitely a force to be reckoned with at 54 and given the current landscape there seems little to stop him from dominating.
Now, I'm a Vargas fan, but if Gayorga does pull the W, I would VERY MUCH LOVE THE OPPORTUNITY to see Vernon get a shot at redemption. He took a very big step this evening and OBVIOUSLY he's healthier than he's been in a while.:good

Vernon looked very good tonight. I would love to see him fight Mayorga or Mosely again(I don't think Shane would take the fight, though). He seems have come back from his injury woes. Hopefully he can bring some excitement to the 154 lb. class.
You are a fool.

mostly agree.
#3:
Forrest would beat Mayorga everytime if he stuck to boxing and not trying to exchange with him. that is why he lost their 2nd fight, Forrest was looking real good until he started brawling with Mayorga.
#4:
Forrest would give Winky a good fight at 154 or even 160 at this point of their careers. i wont say that he would beat him though and i dont see him beating Bernard. Hop would clinch/punch and headbutt his way to a clear decision. :yep

The Quartey decision was just a make-up for getting jobbed against Mayorga in the 2nd fight.
Verron is a good guy, it's good to see him back on top again, he's one of the truly good people in boxing, and he's a bad style matchup for ANYONE... just ask Shane Mosley!

so forrest looked good against baldo, that's like looking good against a heavy bag, i would not crown him p4p world-beater just yet
and how did Baldomir who never fought at 154 get to fight for the vacant WBC title?
How is Morales, who lost his only fight at 135, getting a shot at the WBC Lightweight title? The sanctioning bodies pay deference to former champs and fighters with big TV contracts. It's not fair or rational, but it's nothing new.

Lost once and got robbed once. Both fights Forrest was a one handed fighter by the way. Forrest looked 100% better after his two surgeries.
