skipped rope for 4 rounds then he had me do slip line for another 4 rounds with my right glove against my face and tied on. he would tie that damn rope on until i always kept the right glove "glued" to my cheek.

Skipping rope is a trainer's way of saying
"Out of my way kid, I have better thing's to do"
Sparring as a new fighter is a way to feed their already established in gym fighters.
(Not recommended to newbies, As it only diminishes and crushes their spirit)

Had me stand in the mirror and showed me how to jab and stand right.
Skip for 15 minutes, because that's how most of our sessions start.

Got me to put my name down in the book and look at a piece of paper with information about the club.

He told me if I really wanted to box to come back in six months. I did and haven't missed a training session since. He's since adopted a new rule with the newbies and makes them all wait 3 months before they can come and train. So far it seems to be working pretty well in weeding out the impulsive people who think trying boxing would be fun or cool and end up quitting after he wastes a week of training on them.

Asked me what I knew about boxing. I fearfully, truthfully told him, "Nothing".
He smiled and said, "Perfect." Then sent me to go buy him a coffee.
