Mccrory was a good fighter but the best welterweight that curry beat (twice) was a guy called marlin starling.
both curry and starling are boxers that most aspiring boxers should study and try and imitate. there defences were really good and they carried a high guard
curry was great from 1982 to 86 but like mike tyson, faded from grace quickly. he would of give any welter a good fight
i wouldnt rate him above hagler in 85 though

He was measured at one point around 1985 as pound for pound the best fighter around.. The loss then came against Honeyghan in AC.. Curry was on the cusp of a meeting with Hagler or Hearns, a great tactician and technical genius.. He had a great jab and was very slippery. The final upset in his career came via another upset when he was Ko'd by a determined Mike McCallum.. Remember the division was very hot at the time.. At light Middle there was men like Sean Mannion and McCallum, Marlon Starling was a great little fighter who was always a hard nut to crack.. Mcrory too was rugged as too was Wales' Colin Jones.. That area was hot sauce and Donald was the best for a while.. When up at Middle, he was a bit out of sorts.. Mike Nunn showed us that when the two met in Paris France.. It should never have happened.......

In his very short prime, he was an elegant boxer with a brilliant boxing brain.
Well said. The breadth of his career doesn't warrant consideration historically with the likes of Leonard, Duran, Benitez, but in his short prime I think he'd have given a fair account of himself against just about anybody historically.

At one time, during the late part of 85 and early part of 86, he was considered the top dog in the sport.Tremendous talent, great defense, chin was a bit of a question mark for many. The loss to Honeyghan was probably a combination of trying to make the weight, and listening to bad advice from a fighter he was compared to.McCrory was a very good fighter at one point, considered by some to be better than Curry, but the whole Colin Jones thing hurt him bad.Actually expected him to put up a better fight against Donald, but Milton was obviously not on the same level.:yep

He was very good, we got some him fight Jones and he was brilliant that night. But with hindsight, he was no Hagler, although I naively thought he would beat him in 87 after he flattened Honeyghan.
