I would go with Buddy Baer as being more stable and better able to hold it together under fire.

Probably Baer, because he wasn't nuts.

Probably Baer, because he wasn't nuts.
That would be his principal stylistic advantage.

If we really are going to go with "at their best" then I go with Golota. As has been suggested, in an actual fight, anything could happen.
Mostly Golota going mental and smashing the place up.

Golota at his worst was a fucking headcase, but he kept it together more than once as well.
He wasn't always the reason there was controversy involved in his matches. He's, like I said, kept it together more than once only to be robbed when the decision came down. Like he might of finally gotten himself together only for it to really, really not matter.
Ah well. Bowe was fucking insane himself. He was an insanity magnet during his time at the top. Really don't care that Golota decided to foul him to no end. :)
Anyway, hearing what Golota went through as a kid on the streets, I don't blame him for being unstable.

Well,
given that Baer knocked down Joe Louis, I guess that would be the telling of the whole tale.

Ah, but Golota WAS mental even at his best (the two Riddick Bowe fights).

Big Buddy for me Golotas temparament is far too brittle, his best performances were two losing fights to Bowe.

I think you got to the nub of the issue here better than I could hope to.
