Ok, please post 'your top five favourite fighters of all-time'. These threads have been done many times before but people are quick to name fighters off the top of their heads. Since we have some new posters it will refresh our memories on who each posters favourite fighters are. If you need time to think about it please do and post later.
Please note: Only give five names, either in order from 1 to 5 or just the five without the placings. Don't even mention any other fighters names , eg: "Well I left out Marvin Hagler and he would make my top 10"
Simple question, simple awnser please. The thread is designed to get people thinking on who their five favourite fighters are and even better if you place them in order from 1 to 5.
NO HONOURABLE MENTIONS.

well the title of the thread said "no honorable mentions", archie moore would have been my first honorable mention along with mike tyson
btw, my fathers # 1 favorite fighter of all time is floyd patterson. the guy really makes a strong case why he deserves to be ranked way up there.

Yeah T, he had so much physical grace, but that tension in his stance said he was always ready to unload. His right hand was a thing of beauty. I picked Ali over Clay, and I know alotta people feel otherwise, but to my estimation he was more impressive when he wasn't so athletically dominant, and had to find other ways to win.

Yeah, i would think in terms of pure favouritism (meaning who you would take to your heart), Ali would get the vote over Clay.
On the Sugar topic, i think he just looked plain eviil at times, dont mean that in a bad way, just that a lotta people say that great fighters must have the mean streak, he had it in abundance imo. He never came across like that all the time i must say, but that's because he had the ability to box and utilised it, he could shut a guy out with the jab when past his prime.

He was there to do business. Mean streak? Hell yes, they all have it. They must have the killer instinct in the ring. And I wonder, if it's a challenge for all of them to keep that instinct where it belongs, in the ring.
I have a hunch it's so.

Oh no, i understand favouritism. This is just my opinion by the way, but the man is a snake. I live not far, Liverpool, and i too followed his career from the start with great interest, used to think he was a really nice, down to earth guy. When he beat Tszyu i thought he had a platform to be one of the 140 pound greats of history, at present time a list would be very kind to have him at number 10. I started to notice differences in his attitude round about the Collazo/Urango bouts. 'Man of the people', Roberto Duran and Felix Trinidad would be sick to their stomachs. How he wouldnt give Witter a deserved shot at the title was disgusting, this is a man who claims to be a purist. By the way, the change in attitude i meant was all this trash talking and spotlight lovin that emerged from his personality that wasnt there previously. And all this while constantly reminding us that he's down to earth, Joe Calzage has always been down to earth and never craved fame, but he never reminded us how Ricky did throughout his career.
And the Witter thing disgusts me to my stomach, Witter 'bad-mouthed' him and Ricky used that as an excuse to starve him of what he deserved, i thought history learned from what happened to Burley? Hatton come out after beating a past prime Castillo and totally dissed Floyd Mayweather, someone he has no business doing so to, and Mayweather made the bout in a heartbeat. Money got to this man. I used to go out with a grl from Stalybriidge, just round Ricky's way, ive hears some stuff, as a 'purist', i hate this guy.

I was speaking to a friend on this subject recently, i was a bit shocked at the level of top/great fighters you hear that are violent outside the ring, towards their wiives etc, as i since a chilld, have seen them as artistic and noble (maybe im naive), he simply replied 'they're violent men', shut me up quite fast!

undertsand what you're saying but don't agree with most of it. there's no doubt he has taken possibly more limelight than his talent has ******ted but i don't see how its his fault, i think the public got on themselves to a large degree.
where floyds concerned, yeah he badmouthed him to get the fight, which has been going on for years. and if your referring to the build-up then i'd say mayweather was far worse in the bad-mouthing aspect.
i fucking love ricky's style, or maybe that should be loved cos he seems to have lost it a bit last few fights.

Not stories that are anything to tell, just of his attitude really, just shocked me initially that he was a guy who luvs the limelight when he constantly tells us otherwise. And i dont mind bad-mouthing, its just the hypocrite in him i dont like, how he treated Witter different to Floyd treated him. I meant what he said in the ring after the Castillo fight.
And sorry i made it out like i had some big stories for you there, you were probably expecting something juicy there. It was just that i live a good 30 miles away, and when i come round his area for a drink or whatever, people were telling me of an attitude he seems to have, not a bad attitude, but just the limelight type thing, i was just shocked because it wasnt expected, that was it really.

They have to bring themselves to a point where violence is easily accessible. We all have it in us. But in fighters and soldiers for example, it's not far from the surface of the skin. I read a Robinson bio alotta years ago. Now that I know more about him, I'm sure it was a whitewash. But I have heard about him beating up on his wife a little. That too could be bullshit. Just don't know.
On that note, I'd say that some fighters are better at keeping their violence unexpressed, either in between fights or once they retire.... Point: I think it's a question of how naturally violence came to them in the first place, of how much of a stretch it was for them to get to that place... the easier it was, the more natural it came, the better! If it's not such an aberration, it doesn't have such an effect on their psyches long term; case in point? My brother and I were the only two boys growing up on our street that didn't regularly get beaten by our dads. He tried to pull my tongue right out of my mouth a couple times, and those fists were clenched at times, the look in his eyes said in a breath he could destroy me without breaking a sweat, but he never did it. He was a big enough of a man to not let his time in the ring dictate his civilian life.

1. Marco Antonio Barrera
There is always that fighter who gets you into sport, and this happened when it was announced Barrera would be fighting England's very own Naseem Hamed. As it turns out, Barrera thoroughly outboxed the heavy favourite, and I was in awe of his technical ability. When Pacquiao beat him, I was crushed and loved him even more for recieving such a beatdown and never giving in. Marco Antonios is the epitomy of the modern game as far as I'm concerned, and I will support his comeback.
2. Muhammad Ali
I have seen every fight he has been in, and I like everybody else laugh at his interviews and his charisma. The man bragged, but he backed it up and that is what a lot of modern fighters forget to do. He fought everybody around, cleared out his division twice, and was a superior athlete to all the other Heavyweights around in his day. He's my hero.
3. Juan Manuel Marquez
When he fought Manny Pacquiao, and was able to overcome those first round knockdowns to thoroughly outbox Pacquiao, I was shocked. His technical ability was striking, poety in motion. When he fought Barrera, I was obviously not rooting for him, but I was further impressed when he outboxed a fighter of Barrera's quality, even if he was in his advanced years. Juan Manuel Marquez is the best fighter in the world today in my humble opinion.
4. Alexis Arguello
Nobody had a better right hand than this guy, and nobody was nicer in the world of Boxing. He took on the hardest challenges, fighting Aaron Pryor instead of lesser fighters for the alphabet titles. He was a devstating puncher with both hands, and never showed distain for his opponent. What is not to like?
5. Sugar Ray Leonard
Fought and beat them all in his day, and was one of the most talented and gifted fighters ever to lace them up. His win over Hagler is one of the greatest wins of all time considering the lay off and the weight. I ignore all the political rubbish, when he stepped in the ring he was all business, and nobody looked better doing it.

I was always a boxing fan, but the transaction from fan to FANATIC was because of the same fight that got you into the sport. Was a massive Barrera fan, still now aswell. Though for some reason, i do tend to lean more towards Morales in the favouritism area now, in hindsight. Would never have breathed them words while the rivalry was on though! What a traitor!!

Hi friends, hereīs my list.
1. Ali. During the 60īs he was so fast, impossible to hit. During the
70īs he was not as fast but still incredible and fast enough. There is
no way I can chose any special fight, cause he was involved in to
many. He is simply the greatest of all time.
2. Sugar Ray Leonard. That handspeed, the way he tricked and moved
in the ring. What he did against Duran in the second fight and how
he fought and outsmarted Hagler is something that has inspired me
so much. Sugar Ray Leonard is nr 2, nothing can make me change
that.
3. Joe Frazier - Well Ali wouldnīt be so great if it wasnīt for smokin
joe. Pure fighting machine and I have never seen anyone be as hard
as him. Great at bob and weave. Pure smoke and no joke!
4. Roy Jones jr - Flashy, and fast as h...! No Leonard, no Ali but still.
Great fighter
5. Mike Tyson - Fast lethal and you knew when he landed one of his
punches it could be over, no matter where he landed it.
this is my favourite boxers of all time. Thinking of how Ali and Leonard boxed just make me smile all day, boxing can be wonderful.
All the best

So, I have four fighters who always were my favourites and always will be, in no order:
Jack Johnson
Max Schmeling
Roberto Duran
Bernard Hopkins
So, now the 5th place is decedid between a figther that became a three-weight champ when there was only one belt per weightclass and led a very interesting live outside the ring and another fighter who just makes me awe each time I see him fight. But well since I have two fighters who fought before WW2 and two fighters who fought after WW2, I pick as fifth a fighter who fought in WW2 and even became a war hero:

1. Marvin Hagler
A mean machine, cold blooded and hard as nails. Could do about everything well in the ring. Could hit with power from both stances. His overall skills, paired with jab, combinations, toughness and constant agressiveness make him fifty-fifty with any MW who ever lived. Hagler didn't knew fear or pain. He just didn't. Ask Tommy Hearns. Hagler could hit with pure rage and pretty good power and volume. His chin was made of granite. A true professional, he climbed through such a process to overcome Don King's deloyal tactics and finally claim his deserved MW crown. Those painful and hostile Philly nights slowly built this fighting soldier.
2. Aaron Pryor
A strange phenomenon. Fast, mobile, powerful with good enough handspeed to land endless bunches of punches from all angles. Could be called a pressure fighter or a boxer puncher because he moved pretty well too. His stamina was incredible given the number of punches he threw per round. Always moving, he never was really hard to hit but his chin and recuperative powers were great. Aaron Pryor was so self-confident, so cocky, so scrappy, so careless defensively, he was so often caught off balance.. and so often he would take your best punch and kick your ass after that. Pryor is a fascinating fighter who never lost during his prime. Too bad drugs ruined him.
3. Nigel Benn
Mr. Excitement was in for a war each time he stepped between the ropes. It was kill or be killed due to his shaky chin and questionnable stamina counterbalanced with his brutal power and never surrended attitude. Often stunned, rarely KO'ed. The way he could put your lights out impressed me, the way he came back to win was really courageous. The way he throws these murderous right hand bombs thrills me each and every time I see a Benn fight. His heart and excitement level could be compared with the likes of Arturo Gatti and Matthew Saad Muhammad.
4. Salvador Sanchez
He did everything so well, so smoothly. He moved well offensively & defensively, his punches were sharp and accurate, his chin was superb and stamina was legendary. Never panicked in the ring. Always fresh, calm and in control. Worked like a surgeon, with pinpoint, perfectly timed combos. He was able to keep control from the outside or dish it out closer with calculated burst on the inside. One of the most flawless fighters ever. It's really sad we didn't have the chance to see him face Pedroza or Arguello.
5. Sugar Ray Robinson
There never will be another Robinson. His style is the most beautiful ever. To see what kind of fast, accurate and murderous punches he could throw lets me speechless. A classic boxer-puncher with explosive power, fast hands, movement, grace and toughness. I just like his elegant style. Robinson wasn't a defensive specialist but with that kind of killer arsenal, No doubt about it, the 147 lbs version of Robinson is the best fighter ever.

and I'll go out on a limb with my top choice by saying... Emmanuel Augustus.
He may not be my favorite fighter of all-time (tough to really say), but all the others are all-time greats so I felt like adding a man who wasn't, plus I think I enjoy watching his fights more than anyone else. The man's crazy. He's certainly the most unique fighter I've ever seen, I could literally watch 15 or 20 of his fights back-to-back and never get bored no matter who he's fighting or what the end result is. I can't say the same for anyone else. Also, I love the "fight on a week's notice in the other guys' back yard" mentality, especially when he did this and outclassed the young over-hyped kids.

Just a quick reminder.
