View Full Version : Your Tua/Ike Card?

Went into it hoping I would be able to score it for Ike, that he was that much of a monster that never got to shine.

Not so much the reality. 116-113 for Tua.

First four rounds were Ike's, no questions. He just couldn't sustain it, and as always Tua came on strong and basically swept the second half of the fight.

Thoughts?

I had Tua winning narrowly, but Ike getting the nod wasn't bad enough at the time that I thought "robbery" or anything. Great fight though...it's a shame both guys weren't ever really the same after the fact.

I had Ike winning 7-5.

It was a close fight though and I'd probably score it a draw or maybe even a Tua win if I scored it again. Ike fought Tuas fight, remember that as well, to be even competitive going toe to toe with Tua is amazing.

I had it 7-5 for Tua. Close fight, Ike had a monstrous output throughout the first 4-5 rounds, and although he sustained a high work rate, Tua more or less took over. I don't think many people complain though: if anything, Tua's stock went up after the fight.

I had it 7-5 Tua but I really can't remember my card off the top of my head at the moment...I'm pretty sure I had Ike winning the 12th though, and sometimes that does effect how people view the overall fight.

Close enough that the decision either way was fair on both fighters.
As Chris says, both fighters should benefit from something like that, though sadly that's not always the way and the favourite gets flak.

I also had it 7-5 for Tua. It was a fight where even though Ike won and Tua lost, they both ended up coming out as winners.

115-113 for Tua, IMO he had the harder and cleaner shots, the rounds he won where clearer than some rounds I gave Ike.

Anyone got a link to this fight. I've not seen it all the way through, but I've heard it is worth a watch?

But he´s really just a thin, small and mediocre 180 lbs- fighter with no skills, he just beat old and shot LHW´s... :D

I find it funny how he had a full head of hair in 1953.....then all of a sudden in 1954 in his charles defenses all of a sudden his hair was like nearly gone!!

I had it about 8-4, maybe 7-5 in favor of Ike. Needless to say I'm completely befuddled at the responses in this thread. It's always been known as a great fight, but I never thought it was controversial at all. Ike simply outworked him throughout the whole fight, easily winning the early rounds, Tua coming on strong in the mid to late rounds, though he never really gained any edges the way Ike did in the early rounds. I thought it was a close, very competitive fight, but very clear.

I think Ike won the battle, but lost the war. He really became more unstable to the point where I think he might've gotten brain damage from it and his erratic behavior became worse after it. It might be a coincidence, but taking those kinds of shots from Tua for 12 rounds couldn't have helped matters.

The first time I watched the fight I gave it to Ibeabuchi, I've watched it perhaps 5 times since and scored it for Tua every other time. Quite close and it's hard to separate them on the number of quality punches landed overall but Tua seemed to be getting stronger and Ibeabuchi weaker as the fight progressed.

Yes, i think that (among others) drove Ibeabuchi really over the edge to insanity, hearing demons, carrying big knifes to HBO negotiation dinners and what not.

Needless to say though, Tua left part of his ability in the ring as well.

I think more then physical damage Tua was emotionally drained.

He was never the most motivated, and coming up he was pegged as the second coming of Tyson in some circles.

When his 0 went, I think his less then stellar dedication to the game took a nose dive too.

It was a brutal fight but I did have Tua 7 - 5 both live and later when I taped it off Classic ... the shame is that Tua was never the same again ... never in the same shape or had the same drive ...

This was a great match up between two hard hitters facing each other in their primes, and on of their best nights.

I scored it a 6-5-1 for Ike. While Tua did close strong, I think Ike won too many of the early rounds by a cleaner margin.

I think 7-5 for either fighter is possible without either man being robbed.

Agreed. As I said before, it's a shame both were never the same afterwards. Hate to see that after a great fight.
