David Tua vs Bruce Bellochi 1

notice his defensive moves. similar to that of archie moore and he does it very good.
notice how he uses the jab.

notice how patient he is, he doesnt lunge in and slowly closes the distance and then unleashes his devastating power.

David tua is technically very underrated.

That he is.

Even much heavier then he should of been in recent years, and much slower, the fact that he was so hard to hit was amazing.

Great shoulder blocking.

WOW he looks amazing....the biggest underachiever of the era. never picked up a belt despite knocking out multiple time heavyweight champions maskaev, rahman, ruiz. Tua would have slaughtered the klits. He rates high on my heavyweight list, by far the 4th best swarmer heavyweight in history after marciano, dempsey, frazier. He would lose to corrie sanders though, tua couldnt handle super southpaws with speed and power.

I agree,

Sanders would whale on a lot fighters like Floyd Patterson, Sonny Liston, Cleveland Williams, Zora Folley, Eddie Machen, and Archie Moore.

Ingo Would beat him though..

Why did Bellocchi fight him again afterwards?

At least he got rid of that silly hair cut.

Bellocchi II is even a better Tua performance in my opinion.

Very nice shoulder blocking and good fundamentals by Tua in the first bout... I especially like how in the first bout just before he put Bellocchi down for the last time he gets inside Bellocchi's range when Bellocchi misses a jab and Tua pops him with a good counter jab. Nice stuff.

He showed some more of that in the second fight, but the story of the second fight is the wicked body attack Tua put on him. Man, I was cringing with every shot.

I was lucky enough to catch some of Tua's fight when he just becoming known, and right away I thought he could be a champion. Unfortunately, I think how easily most of his wins came wound up being the worst thing in the world for him... he became convinced he could knock anyone out with one punch and came too rely on it way too much, to the detriment of his other skills.

Maricano too.

Just too small!

Good Point Marciano was great but he was too small when he gets in his crouch sanders is going to kill with him the left uppercut sanders is a powerful fast freak!

If cruiserweights knocked him down SSFONCS would kill him!

How would Tua do against Foreman,Tua has great chin and power and the young Tua had great stamina as well, I can't see even Foreman shaking off a Tua left hook like he did with Frazier.

Tua looks very Tyson-esque in that clip.

Shame Bruce Bellochi never got his hands on a title belt.

That double 1-2 that Bellochi lands at 1:36 is quite beautiful actually. I can't see it well because of the low Youtube quality, but the last one seems to land flush on his chin. No effect, of course.

Tua's left hook could've layed anyone out. I don't think his jabbing was really that effective, however.

Actually, I think Tua is a bit overrated. He was a solid contender with a solid resume but he never was as good as some people make him. That he never was able to grab a belt despite worse fighters getting one should tell you enough about him.

I agree to certain extend. People love big punching power + iron chin. But other than that, he was rather limited. Rahman (yes, Rahman) pretty much out boxed him twice, but won one controversially and should've lost the other. He didn't win a single round against Lewis and looked completely clueless. Byrd out boxed him and hurt him with body shots.

Few could beat him standing toe-to-toe (though Ibeabuchi did or nearly did), but skilled boxers clearly gave him more than he could handle. Be that as it may, he still had plenty to pick up a belt somewhere down the line, so yeah, he is an underachiever.

Here is Lewis/Tua, Lewis is the superior fighter he is too quick and big for Tua to land on him, but what is amazing is Tua can take Lewis's power it must hurt him but he doesn't show it, the overhand rights that smashed Tyson and Rahman, the uppercut that wobbled Klitschsko and had him hanging on for a round, Tua shakes off. Strong points for Lewis but if Tua had found a home a few times for that left hook a different fight.

By the way, some people say Felix Savon knocked Tua "out cold" in the amateurs. It's true that he stopped him (inside of 30 seconds, in fact), but he wasn't out cold. He got up at 7 or so and probably would've been allowed to continue if it was in the pro's.

He was hurt though. Savon was one hell of a skilled, master boxer who connected with a short right hand, precisely on the jaw.

Byrd hurt Ike with bodyshots as well.

Really pissed Ike off with one, in fact.

Probably could have if he fucking stayed at middleweight. :patsch

corrie sanders? you're joking right

tua would knock him out sooner rather than later. he was a southpaw but if tua connected, sanders would fall.

i would have loved to see tua take on foreman. the older foreman imo was alot betta than young foreman, he was alot bigger and more stronger. it would have been a war.

the fights I really wanted to see him in was vs Holyfield, Tyson, And Bowe. None happened which is why I never considered him as fulfilling his full potential
