I read somewhere Hennessy has a deal with Skysports a while ago.
Has that ended?

ITV if anywhere. They were close to a deal and if Hennessey had any brains he would jump at becoming the only promoter on terrestrial tv.

Hennesey have not announced who they have gone with but expect an announcment pretty soon. Hopefully ITV then we can get a few decent boxers known to the public.

You can't throw a few million at boxing and hope for it all. ITV and BBC don't understand long term, Sky do. I hope Setanta are looking long term as well.

There were rumours that Hennessy was close to doing a deal with ITV for a number of fights, based upon 50-50 matchups, fights for proper belts (which to Mick's credit he has always pushed) and important fights - world title fights supported by Euro level fights or Brit title matches rather than a prospect against a guy with five times as many losses as wins

I am no Hennessy fan (never will be because he talks shit) but must admit I have growing admiration for what he does with regard titles rather than interalphabetty nonsense.

I think Sky have made a real blooper signing with ****** - if I was Setanta I would save the prospective legal fees and spend the money on securing a few good young fighters.

a deal involving both ITV and Setanta would be great in my opinion, I know this is very very unlikely but it would be great to see the bigger match ups on ITV (and would increase interest in boxing) and the lesser domestic fights (which ITV would be unlikely to show anyway) on setanta.

setanta and itv are not exactly good mates at the moment.

I thought ITV's deal with hennessy was on a fight by fight basis, no long term commitment. Interesting if Setanta crop up as they're in the shit financially at the moment. Will Carl Froch bring them any more viewers?

There was something in one of the boxing mags about Hennessy doing a deal to show Froch / Pascal on Fight Network channel following the Darren Barker fight in Canada recently on that channel.

Anyway I am not a fan of Froch, I beleive he is just another Amir Khan, primed for a beating as soon as he steps up in class.
Not sure Pascal is the man to do it though.

Well, I really hope that some terrestrial channel does actually step up and brings some decent quality boxing to the masses, because otherwise putting everything behind subscription channels will pretty much strangle boxing and stop any hope of it developing a growing fan base - which is what it badly needs.

No, theyre not in the shit financially .. what it is is that the BBC or ITV wouldnt pay what they were askign for the highlights package of England matches.

Fair play to them i say, ITV and BBC are always trying to do things on the cheap ... and how can ITV cough up millions for motorsport then be tight about hopw much they pay for Englands national sport.

i have just read that brian magee is fighting steve maguire 4 the british title as part of the undercard to the froch world title on the 29th of november...also john murray is defending his british lightweight title on the same promotion....this is leading me 2 believe that a massive show like this will be on itv...as henessay could have gotten 3 separate dates on setanta for these 3 contests alone:good

Hilarious, really - is this the same long-term strategy that saw them put Amir Khan on PPV?
I was amazed he was flag-waving and championing SKY as well.:nut
They only really care about PPV rip-off's nowadays, not the fans or subscribers.
Dont know what he's on.

Well boxrec doesn't have the fight listed. Anyway, surely the fearsome 23 fight 31 year old Cobra should think carefully about things first and not rush into anything at this exciting stage of his career..........yawn........

I know the Murray fight is pencilled in for Manchester Central (the old Gmex) which is pretty big, but isn't Froch's fight due to be in Nottingham?

Yup - fair play to Setanta I say, if ITV and the Beeb dont offer enough dont sell them the highlights.

I dont think Setanta have money issues.

On another note, does Froch have anything lined up? I didn't think he did.

How is he just another Amir Khan and whats this step up in class you talk about??Khan was 1/25 for the fight so nobody gave Prescott a chance! Will be interesting to see how Prescotts career goes after this. And as for Froch has he been on the canvas 6 times in 19 fights against predominantly non punching opponents i dont think so.I aint saying Froch is going to mop up at world level but to say hes just another Khan is very ill informed in my opinion!
