One of the best defensive fighters ever.

Harder to hit than Mayweather. The guy Locche fights in that video is an atg, way above anybody PBF fought, and you see what he does.
It was the great Kid Pambele, a legend in Colombia. Locche toyed with him the first time they met. Kid Pambele beat him the second time, though.

Very few fighters, including Willie Pep and Pernell had the complete understanding of the sweet science as Nico, a master boxer who never good his recognition as the defencive master he ones was….with a 117-4 he was a master tactician….many in the division elude him so the big names are not so present on his resume, other than Carlos Ortiz, Ismael Laguna, Eddie Perkins, Carlos Hernandez , Alfonzo Frazer and Kid Pambele at the tail end of his career…one of my All Time Favorites...it was not until nearly 30 years old that they finally gave him a chance and needed to travel to Tokyo to face Fujo for the JRWW WBA title and the linearity fo the title...not only did he win but he KO Fuji in the 10th...

Prime Locche > Prime Cervantes
Kid Pambele showed early on his career that he had trouble with slick defensive boxer....when he lost to Benitez ...it was Deja Vu all over again for Kid Pambele who didn;t lost for 4 years before El Radar beat him. El Radar clearly study the fights an styles of Nico thru his career, but with far ore pop on his punches than Nico

I think hes easier to hit because hes obviously not as fast as mayweather. But he lets these shots hit him in ways that have no effect. Its amazing the way he accepts those jabs but absorbs them as if they werent even punches. So its almost impossible to hit him clean. So in other words, you can touch but not hurt him. Id say hes twice the defensive fighter mayweather is, without the speed, but this is the only video Ive seen of the guy.

You seem to know a lot about Nicolino. I had no idea he had been ducked. In Argentina the guy was a legend and he had many, many fans.

Nicolino had two main flaws as a boxer: He didn't have a pop, and he had no malice toward his opponents. He was not the kind of guy who would finish you if he had you hurt. Instead, he was content with simply winning by clowning the hell out of you, until you were so exhausted you would end up quiting. But he was not angry and full of hatred like Monzon was. So instead of blood and knock outs, he gave you the art of boxing and playing around.
In this fight with Fuji, he wins by TKO. A rarity in his record. But he had Fuji so frustrated, that the guy just quit in desperation.

You gotte be kidding. Both had a better overall understanding of the sport than him. He was mainly known as an evasive, tricky fighter who had great defense and was slick, not as well-rounded as the other two at all.
You just can't handle it when someone puts a fighter in the same breath as Pernell :-(
Fortunately Niccos' talent speaks for itself here :yep

It's possible that what you say it's true. However, Nicolino Locche hardly ever used lateral movement. Instead, and as you can see in the footage, he would stand flat footed, lower his arms, and challenge his opponents to hit him. Also, he had the tendency to lie on the ropes and catch you with counters all night.
That's far harder, in my view, than jumping around and going on your bicycle while avoiding getting hit which is what most defensive prone fighters have done, traditionally. :smoke

Kid Pambele KO Nico at the end of his career...
The fight was stopped on cuts. Nicolino wanted to continue fighting but he was not allowed.

I agree, its much harder to stay in the pocket and avoid shots just with subtle little movements like nicco rather than dancing or swaying, bobbing big time....If nicco could do that against fast fighters i would say that he has amazing talent, defense and reflexes...Ive seen ali do something similiar, but still not as well as this guy....More footage and comments guys.....:good

No, that's not it at all, he was very fun to watch and a great fighter, but he wasn't in their league as far as overall talent at all, you gotta be kidding me. More skilled than Whitaker and Pep? Is that a joke? He's not a top 50 ATG or even close.
Certainly, I never said more talent, but his talent is certainly up there. Perhaps if he had more opportunities he would've had a greater resume or a career to back up the talent that's obvious on film :smoke
Besides, you got so worked about people matching up Tszyu with Pernell (and Chavez) you went so far as to say he's not a top ten 140 pounder, we've all got our biases, no shame in that :patriot

Defensively, Locche was as good as anyone you care to name, and I'd say a step ahead of Floyd Mayweather Jr. You didn't see Locche running around the ring to avoid shots. He clowned guys on the spot.
But offensively, he was rather limited. It wasn't just the power he lacked, but the variety of punches and workrate.
Still, he was talented enough to shut Cervantes and Joe Brown out, and hold his own against Perkins and Laguna (he did rob Ortiz of a win he deserved though), and that speaks for itself.

This is fair sweet_scientist, though he was a great counter puncher, with good handspeed and accuracy.

I said that? Are you sure you aren't confusing me with someone else? Maybe Sweet_Scientist? I believe Tszyu is firmly in the top 10 at 140.
Apologies for the case of mistaken identity then :good

Can't remember if I've ever made my thoughts known on Katsidis before, but to spill the beans on what I think: he's an entertaining fighter, who should get picked apart as soon as he comes across someone that has B or B + grade boxing skills and can stand up to his power.
Regarding the mistaken identity, things are pretty confusing around here. There's a "sweet_scientist", which is me, there is also a "sweet scientist", there's also a "sweet science" and of course there's "sweet pea". LOL, me and Pea have Whitaker avatars as well to make things even more confusing, so have fun deciphering who we all are!

pep had workrate ,whitaker had his jab ,locche had his clowning.
he is a great defencive fighter of all time he but he isnt in the top 50
