I've never seen Bautista but he's getting some hype. Anyone have some knowledge on this kid? Can he stop DeLeon or is he overrated?

his fight with medina was a great fight. but the fact that Bautista had many problems with him, worries me for next weeks fight.
I saw 2 fights of him in the philipinnes, he looked great there. But his defense is lacking.
Think de Leon will get this, but it will be a great fight, bautista can throw combinations

I think De Leon takes him out. Medina had Bautista ready to go. If Medina can do that imagine what happens when Ponce connects.

I think its abit too early for Bautista, his fight with Medina was exciting but he had a lot of trouble and the ref did Bautista a big favour when he was seriously all over the place.
De Leon looked shit in his last fight too though, its a pick 'em fight, it could be whoever lands the first big punch.

Bautista's being rushed into this one. Technically, he could improve on a lot, and I do expect him to be a champion someday, but not after this fight. Ponce De Leon KO 5.

Bautista is good, has some Flaws, But if you compare Ponce & BOom-Boom, BB has more potential. All Ponce has is his Power. BB has that too, He already shows his heart for the 2 fights he was Knockdown, BB has the best trainer & Manager. All points to BB, Maybe by UD, but I rather see a KO.
By the way, Penalosa beat Ponce in my Book, that was a Masterpiece by Gerry. Compubox is Flawed, you shound't count Punches that was landed in the Gloves & Elbow or Blocked. It should count only the Hurting or The Effective Punches.

Whoever wins, this should be a good fight. I've only seen the one fight of Bautista so I'm not positive what he brings. From the fight I saw against Medina I'd pick DeLeon. Bautista is just too hittable for a guy who throws a lot of heavy punches like DeLeon. If there's more to him than the Medina fight than it could be a different story because it's a close fight as is. But I suspect the lack of defense and possilby being put in too deep too soon will spell big trouble for Bautista.

Bautista has some pop in his punches. Can he stop De leon? If he hits De Leon with a solid shot I think he can . . . and I'm fucki'n praying for it.:yep After the "injustice" they have done to Gerry Penaloza, I'm praying that the other filipino exact vengeance on him.

Not as much as Ponces
it could be argued that boomboom may have better defense that de leon but the latter's chin makes up for what defense he's lacking. boomboom on the other hand has been dropped by average fighters.

I think Bautista will take it. I've haven't seen him take so many hits in than he did in the Medina fight. He opened up a lot more recklessly than usual. I think he was trying hard to put on a show being on the undercard of DLH-Mayweather. Normally he isn't so reckless and is more precise with picking his shots.
Medina also proved surprisingly resilient --- Bautista was landing really well in the body. And although there were no immediate effects, it won Bautista the fight as the last rounds showed a tired and weary Medina.
After watching De Leon embarrass himself against Penelosa, even being chased in the last round, I think Bautista will take it.

Can you name who these fighters are, underdog? The guy is undefeated but I haven't seen gone down in his fights. He was tagged by Medina but not knocked down.
dude. are you even serious? boomboom was given an 8 count on the medina match because the ropes were the only thing preventing a kd. if he wasn't given the count, there was a total possibility that he would have been tko'd. therfore, he was kd by medina and not just "tagged" as you claim to be. and he also was knocked down by gerardo espinoza early in their fight. either round 2 or 3. i don't remember.
you're ignorance never ceases to amaze

ahh for once you got something right, arguably PDL does have a better chin..
Boy but those wide slow looping punches...against a slickster like BB
just a bad formula for Ponce
so you think boomboom will win?

I am just asking you a question and you said a mouthful. Anyway, BoomBoom eventually came out the winner, so what's your point? You should remember that this boy is only 20 or 21. For Christ's sake. His bones haven't developed yet. Give him time to toughen up and Boom Boom will intimidate all the other boxers in his division and even in higher division.
you're really a retard. i know that boomboom won, maggot. i'm not as stupid as you. my point from the very start was that boomboom's chin is questionable. i said a mouthful to educate your sorry ass.

Id say decision, Ponces got a hard head and BB punches hard but not that hard.
See how honest I am.

Just like what they predict about manny when he beat MAB he question his ability to take the punch. lets give this kid a chance to prove that he can. I think he can if he fight smart and carefully pick his punches.

This is a tough fight for me to make a prediction but I'm gonna go with De Leon's workrate and strength over Bautista's skill.

The more I look at it, the more I think DeLeon has the advantage. If Bautista doesn't hurt him early, he could be in for a long night.

that shit looks scary. but boomboom is no pushover. i won't be suprised if both fighters taste the canvass on this one
I saw Batista get drop by Gerardo Espinoza. One thing he has it heart. But Ponce has a diffferent kind of punching power. One think Batista needs to learn it to clinch when he's hurt, because I deffently seeing him down at least once in this fight. Batista those have some good fundamentals and balance. If he hit Ponce with some of the flush shot that Penalosa landed, he will ko Ponce. But he's not as skilled as a Penolosa. I say Ponce by Ko within six.

Bautista-Deleon 50-50 fight
booms a better fighter but has suspect chin
Gonzales-Penalosa 75-25
jhonny is too long, big and great outside boxer, he'll keep penalosa at a distance like he did to Israel.

The more and more I watch the two fighters, I think Ponce De Leon will win. His workrate, size, and power will trouble Bautista who may be stepping it up too early. I'm not yet sold on Bautista and I'm not so sure his chin will hold up under the Ponce De Leon onslaught. Ponce De Leon by stoppage is my pick.

08-01-2007, 08:05 AM
Bautista is a good prospect, but he doesn't seem to have a great chin, and he don't look too good when he's hurt. Ponce is crude, but he has true one punch KO power. Bautista throws a lot of punches, and he's gonna have to to keep De Leon off of him. He Rey has some power, but I don't think he has enought to know Daniel out. I think Bautista will be chopped down by the 5th or 6th round.
This fight could possibly be fight of the year,i'm going with bautista, because he's the overall better fighter, this fight may end up looking like larios vs linares.i got bautista by ud or late tko.

Bautista's defense is lacking.
So is De Leon's. I think it's just a matter of who could connect first. I've seen De Leon's fight against Peņalosa and I wasn't so impressed with his performance that night. I won't even be surprised if Peņalosa steal that fight from him. I think Bautista is ready and this fight will be just as unpredictable. :good

I think this fight will come down to who has the better chin and stamina, it seems both have pretty good stamina. But De Leon's chin has to be considered much better, Bautista was on queer street against Medina, and his recovery time wasnt that good. IF De Leon gets Bautista on queer street than "BOOM BOOM" will go "NIGHT NIGHT"...lol.
There will be a lot of surprises on this fight...

Bautista fights in almost the exact same style as Czar Amonsot. When I watched the Amonsot-Katsidis fight, I actually thought it was Bautista in there, they're like twins and fight in a similar style :yep . That being said, I think Bautista should win this fight, but De Leon is very live and has a decent chance also. Bautista is green, but he has plenty of tools to work with.

Surely hes better skill wise as long as he dont get reckless he has a very good chance. i give him 60/50 chance for Beutista.
I think that Ponce De Leon will connect a punch to Bautista's chin and he will go down. Repeat 2-3 times because of Bautista's heart and the result will be KO5. Simple as that. I don't know what Bautista's team was thinking putting him in with a huge puncher so fast.

I only see Ponce's Chance as by Lucky punch KO. All points to Bautista. He has the best trainer, Best Promoter, Best Mngr. He spars with Penalosa who In my book beat Ponce. Recently seen Ponce, Bautista & the guy who schooled Ponce, Caballero. PDL throws wild punches whereas Bautista punches are much better measured. If this is a boxing match then Bautista will win but if his defence slips with any degree of frequency then PDL will catch him and PDL most certainly has the power to KO Bautista so this is a great fight. 50:50 in my book

That is, if you can shed off your reputation as my whipping boy. The Mexicans has been falling one by one, from Morales, Arce, Rafa Marquez to Castillo, etc.. The results of World Cup would not be any different.:lol::lol:
All of these Mexicans have been losing to other Mexicans (with the exception of Castillo)! :patsch Morales to David Diaz (mexican-American) Rafa Marquez to Israel Vasquez (Mexican from same city, Mexico D.F.) and Arce to Christian Mijares (Mexican). Its not like they have been losing to Filipino fighters. In fact two good Filipino lost recently, the one against Ulises Solis and Amonsot against Katsidis.:hi:

Following the Ponce De Leon-Gerry Penalosa fight blueprint, it may be a case for Ponce De leon doubling Bautista's output or a case for Bautista doubling De Leon's effectiveness. If the Tarahumara large-shouldered Indian Mexican hurries out into action, swinging hard with his endless supply of batteries and freakish punch output but leaves himself open to get pop shot in between his shoulders and arms like happened in rounds 1 to 3 against Penalosa, he will be had. If the Filipino young gun and Manny Pacquiao heir apparent goes straight at a somber De Leon, using leg movement, closing the distance, getting off and circumventing his more unexperienced opponent like he did against Penalosa from the 6th round on to win a lopsided decision, the WBO/IBA Light-Feather titlist can even catch Boom Boom on the way in like Medina did in the 7th ( when Robert Byrd saved him with a standing 8 count which was not in effect). Great Fight in prospect!

I just hope Bautista will recover fast after this fight.
Ponce De Leon is a much harder puncher, aggressive and looks tough.
I don't think Bautista can outbox him. He will probably be engaged in a slugfest with De Leon, and that would be it for him.
If he fight smart, boxes him off, have patience in shooting his haymakers accurately, he will have a good chance.
If not, it will be a De Leon party.

Simple as that. A punch hit him right on the chin and down he went. If the ref let him get up he would fall down for the third time. Really, what the hell was Bautista's team thinking? They could have milked him some more and hyped him up for another year to earn some money at least. Now he just got knocked out in 1 round on BAD and there are no excuses except for the sad fact that he has a horrible chin.
