View Full Version : Lewis to Vitali *If you comeback, so will I*
Heavyrighthand

A site that is very confidential about its boxing, states in a new article about Vitali, in which Vitali says that Lewis apparently, very recently, told him (Vitali )that *if you come back, so will I, but the purse will have to open my eyes, wide*.
Not sure how serious Lewis is when he says such things, though, but Lewis had to know that Vitali was coming back, and that he (Lewis) would be expected to follow through with his claim, as well.
Who knows if he means it, or not, but Vitali sure seems to be after the Lewis rematch, cause he knows that is the only mega-money fight there is out there, bar none. I am sure Vitali will get slammed even further for this, but Lewis seems to add fuel to the fire by saying such things, as he knows that Vitali is seriously after that rematch and the huge income it would make both of these guys.
And Vitali also knows that a Lewis win, even with Lewis at 41, or whatever he is, would carry much more clout on his resume than anyone else currently out there.

Lewis ain't coming back. You see all that grey hair he has when he's chillin on BAD. HBO pays him well - well enough for him to sit on the money he's already made - and take the best seat in the house for any boxing match he wants.

Lewis won't be fighting anymore.

This is totally meaningless because it isn't a quote of Lewis; it's a quote of someone who has an interest in Lewis saying this. Lewis isn't coming back and Vitali is facing defeat if he fights a top 5 boxer. End of story.

Here is what was said in the article:
Regarding the Klitschko's, Vitaly gave an interview to German newspaper "Die Welt" as he spoke about the still existing possibility of a fight between him and Lennox Lewis.
"A short while ago I spoke to him and he told me that he comes back if I do so. He actually set an extra-term saying that the purse must open wide his eyes. In between I had many negotiations about it. I can say this: If I become champion of the world again, HBO would be so kind to offer him the amount of money that he would not be able to close his eyes ever again."

Lewis stood in the ring with vitali in germany recently and spoke the words into a microphone saying NO he will not be coming back.

Although I'm flattered that the boxing community is eager to have me back in the ring, I have no plans to return. I have no idea how these rumors get started, but I'm a man of my word - I will remain retired.
I'm happy with my life and I don't need to chase a big payday. I'm enjoying commentating for HBO and I'm keeping busy with business ventures and fatherhood. I'm proud of what I accomplished as champion and confident that my legacy will remain intact.

No way..he only will lost his younger brother, no one else.
Rumors again, if Lewis didn't make a rematch happen right after the first fight then he sure as hell won't change his mind at age 41.

Hey, is it that time again? Time for another "Lewis might come out of retirement" rumour.
I think it was officially passed as law that such a rumour must be circulated at least every 4 or 5 months. I wonder how old Lewis will have to be before it stops!

Man, your crazy if you think vitali loses to a top 5 guy. Who?
He's too rangy for chagaev. He would beat peter easier than wlad did.
And sultan doesn't have the power to hurt him. Maskaev would be KO'd in 6 or less. Wlad is the #1 heavy in the world and ring rusty vitali is #2.

lennox lewis does not need the fucking money. he was smart enough to live a life different from what the tysons and bowes lived. he is married, he has children, works for hbo and retired as the undisputed heavyweight champ of the world, the richest sportsman in great britain. vitali klitschko is a former victim, in fact, the last one.

Imagine how crap LL would be if he came back. He looked horrible in his last fight and that was FOUR YEARS AGO. I doubted Lewis's training discipline in his last two years as a pro (v. Rahman, v.Klitschko) and he'd never be in shape again.
Lewis aint coming back. He's finished, like Tyson and Bowe, but he went out the right way.
As for Vitali's comeback, I'm not expecting much. He's been out almost 3 years himself, and has been injured. He was never a speed merchant, being so big, and at 35 and rehabbing from injuries I dont expect him to get very far.

British heavyweight boxer might return to the ring for the sake of a match against Vitaly Klitschko
Honorary WBC Champion Vitaly Klitschko, who will resume on September 22nd his boxing career after a two-year break, confirmed on Monday that another outstanding heavyweight boxer, Lennox Lewis, is interested in a match against him. The match can take place already in 2008, if the famous Ukrainian manages to win back the world champion title.
Honorary WBC Champion Vitaly Klitschko of Ukraine said he had talked to Lennox Lewis of Britain to discuss the possibility of their match. Lewis is the last heavyweight boxer to have held the absolute world champion’s title.
Klitschko said that Lewis, who ended his career in early 2004, is ready to return to the ring for the sake of a match against Klitschko, if he receives “an offer which satisfies him financially”. The Ukrainian boxer believes the match against Lewis is quite possible: “If I become the world champion, the leading TV channels will make that offer.”
However, Klitschko said that he considers himself able to complete that task, despite the nearly-two-year break in his career. “I will personally answer to everyone concerning the shape I’m in now, on September 22nd,” the Ukrainian boxer said.

I think this story has more validity than most seem to admit. :good
We are pretty sure that Vitali can beat the hell out of McCline, and then clean the clock of whomever has the title, so I think its all a matter of Lewis still staying to his word, and a matter of HBO, or whomever, offering him enough to get him back.
But that said, how much would it take to get him back in the ring with Vitali? This fight would be big, sure, but it wouldn't be Tyson Lewis huge.
Whomever promotes it would have to weigh the cost, as opposed to what they think they can make on it, cause it sounds as if Lewis may be wanting an unrealistic amount.
And even though he may mean what he says, if they were to come up with the money, he may then back out. Him keeping his word is questionable, seeing as how he already changed his mind once before after promising Vitali a rematch after the first fight.

LONDON (AP) - Former world heavyweight champion Lennox Lewis denied a published report that said he'll end his retirement to fight Vitali Klitschko in November.
The London tabloid the Sunday Mirror quoted Lewis as saying, "I'm making a comeback later this year. The money is up to 21 million pounds ($39.3 million) right now and I simply can't turn that much cash down.
"I need the money just like everyone else and it's just too good to turn down."
But later Sunday, Lewis released a statement saying he was not making a comeback.
" I want to reiterate what I said when I retired in February 2004 that I was fortunate to leave the sport on my own terms and that I will be one of the few heavyweight champions in history to retire on top and stay retired," he said.
Lewis, 39, retired Feb. 6 with a 41-2-1 record. Klitschko assumed the title April 24 when he beat Corrie Sanders.
Lewis and Klitschko last fought in June 2003. Lewis was behind on points when the fight was stopped in the sixth round because Klitschko was cut.
That was Lewis' last fight and he was booed out of the ring after a poor performance. The WBC mandated a rematch, but Lewis retired instead

Vitali Klitschko is trying to get people interested in his comeback fights by evoking the name of Lennox Lewis.
Heavyweight boxing's is a sad state. The last generation of heavyweights inspired no one. The real public interest is still with 90s guys like Lewis & Holyfield.

Its not be hard to see through out heavy weight boxing history, that it is very hard for some guys to give it up,its in there blood, and i would not be suprised to see him get back in the ring again.
I hope he does to be honest,he would spark huge interest again in the heavys, and to be honest he must look at the top 5 guys and feel he has a chance against at least three of them if he trained hard for a few months or so.

I think deep down, Lewis probably wants to comeback, but at the same time, knows the last fight was not an easy win, and the next fight could go either way. So Lewis is probably not too eager to risk his career ending on a bad note (loss).
In addition to that, he and his wife, would certainly like to make one more big payday.......... I imagine his wife sees him sitting around the house, and thinks to herself, this fool could earn us millions more by a few months work, but instead, he's sitting here watching TV all day......
And also, I think he tells Vitali this kind of thing to string him along, cause he loves having Vitali beg him, as it keeps Lewis's ego stroked.

Hard to say. Most wife's don't actually like their husbands getting into the ring and risking permanent injury or even death, especially when there's likely a huge portfolio and they are living off their investments and business interests. Somehow, I don't see Lewis sitting around watching TV, he likely has business intersts which keep him busy. Hell even I do, and I'm pretty sure my net worth isn't anywhere near his. Having said that it would be hard to walk away from a 15-20M+ payday.

Until there's anything even remotely solid, at the moment I'll just be filing this with the rather large pile of Lewis comeback rumours. I'm certain he misses the glory of winning in the ring, but he also seemed increasingly happy with his new roles in life.

those rumours are circling around for years. vitali likes to tell crap about lewis deserving money and so on. come on, lets face the truth, a rematch would prove nothing. vitali will get credit when he fights a current champ and let the former champ stay retired as healthy man. lebnnox does not need vitali, he never did.
