Affliction Leaves Las Vegas: Event Postponed
The Oct. 11 Affliction event scheduled for the Thomas & Mack Center in Las Vegas has been postponed, Keith Kizer of the Nevada State Athletic Commission confirmed to Sherdog.com on Wednesday.
Affliction contacted Kizer on Wednesday morning to inform him that the event would be moved to a January date at the Honda Center in Anaheim, Calif.
Advertising for the Oct. 11 pay-per-view event had already begun, including in New York, where scheduled headliners Andrei Arlovski and Josh Barnett were featured on a billboard in Times Square.
The show, “Day of Reckoning,” was set to be Affliction's second MMA event.
Not a very good start for Affliction. This looks like a carbon copy of every other failed org.
Well, damn, that's not good. It was a good run while it lasted :patsch
At least we got to see an ex-UFC champ faceoff with Fedor. The first card was amazingly stacked. Too bad. Now it looks like Fedor will have no choice but to join the evil empire. Dana White and his cronies win. I suppose the other plus side to Dana winning is that Gary Shaw and EliteXC won't win. They make the UFC look like little angels.
The UFC is a monopoly.
Is that a bad thing from the point of view of seein the best fights happen?
Maybe the fighters may suffer with regards to wages though

You get more fights you want to see...but you get less fights overall. I like having options. I like seeing different promotions. I like having cages and rings. I think any monopoly is a problem.
I think they are waiting for January so they can get all the same fighters from their first card healthy and ready to fight. but just switch around who's fighting who. And what big Timmy?.....who or what is next for him.

Well, I think it makes sense. I'd wait until Fedor can fight to put on a second card. Meanwhile, it would be interesting to see Fedor join UFC. Let's hope Dana can give him a normal contract and negotiate a deal.

I would say that's a bad thing with the money they're paying their fighters. It's a joke to see how much UFC fighters are getting paid.
I also like seeing different organizations competing with the UFC. I remember the good ol' Pride days :yep . Back when the OWGPs, MWGPs, and WWGPs were the most entertaining events in MMA.

If they wait until Jan., I see no reason not to have Fedor fight Arvloski.

Fedor should fight Barnett.
Fedor should fight Barnett.
While I agree that it will be a better fight, I think Fedor pummelling Arvloski will help make him more mainstream, ie impress the casual UFC fans. I'm willing to wait for him to fight Barnett.

The UFC is a monopoly.
Except for its 10000 or so competitors
Except for its 10000 or so competitors
Yeah, and how many of those are actually "competitors?" Zero.

At least 3 compete for direct viewers and fighters. Being the biggest does not mean being a monopoly.
Technically you are right Beebs, but thats like saying the mom and pop store across the street from Wal-Mart is gonna compete with Wal-Mart. Don't be an idiot.

Well its not just that, the barriers to entry are as low as having a few million in capital. Affliction showed up with no experience, no deals, nothing but money and were an immediate force.
