Charley Burley. Digging out a living fighting some of the best fighters that ever lived on no notice and refusing dirty money at every turn.

On The Waterfront with an ATG, which is what I would call it, All Time Greatest.

fuck it, call Johnny Tapia's story 'Mi Vida Loca'

Its easy, but its true.

Who would play the lead role? Joe Pesci springs to mind, but he's too old

Somebody said make a film on Tyson.

I gaurantee that film will be made in the next 20 years.

Yup, just read his book and you can easily see how his life story on film could easily win an Academy Award. So much has happend to Tapia you wonder how they could even cram it into an hour and a half/two hour movie. I'd pay good money just to see this movie multiple times on the big screen.

who would play the lead?

Good luck getting a lead actor who can play Tysons role convincingly.
It would make a great story but Tyson is such an unusual looking dude I dont get an actor who could look like him.

Johnny Tapia, already been said but I could see that being a oscar worthy flick.

Maybe Prince Naseem Hamed would be a good story twenty years from now.

Gerald Mcclellan maybe.

Marciano...all there has been is a made for tv movie...i'm tired of seeing his toughness slandered today by those saying he is too small....its irrelevant, he aint fighting now, he fought then and he dominated. end of story.

Joe Louis, why even bother with an explanation. of course there should be a film of his life.

A movie about Sugar Ray Robinson could rival Raging Bull. Sugar Ray was just as violatile as LaMotta. I think Jaime Foxx could play Sugar Ray. Denzel Washington could have played Sugar Ray in the 80s but not now.

johny tapia and mike tyson forsure....

But to be true to these guys it has to be a big budget movie with decent actors...

these two dont deserve those tele movie crap..

These movies would be blockbusters forsure...

Movies on oscar de la hoya etc aint the type people other than boxing fans would watch...

Iron Mike and tapia have led the sort of life that not just boxing fans but the general public will cram themselves into cinemas worldwide.

Though they would need these movies to be made properly..

Actually heard a interview with jamie fox who indicated he would love to make a movie on mike tyson..

If will smith can win a oscar for ALI than who knows howmany a movie on the two above guys could recieved..

Anthony Mundine story would be interesting.

It starts with him growing up with a world rated boxing father, shows elite promise as a basketballer, Boxer and Rugby league player but decides to go with League. Reached an elite level in league while being very controversal in his statements, then shocks the country by swithcing to the toughest sport of all and achieves what his dad couldnt, a world title.

It can be done in a way that the audience will hate one side of him, but love another side.

Would make a good movie but wouldnt really hit on the world stage until he starts getting some high profile victories...

Time will tell.

I aint a mundine fan but shit he is talented..

Even if you hate the bloke you would give your left nut to have the ability to be either a pro boxer,b-ball or league player..

To think the bloke has already been 2. of them..

Wish he would just shut his mouth and let his fists do the talking

5 pages and not one mention of Carlos Monzon?

thats what i was thinking. his life story could rival raging bull. it could start with his early days as a pimp/ soccer hooligan getting serious about boxing, then to his prime defending the MW title in foreign/oponents turf, hard partying lifestyle, his numerous mistresses and the beatings he gave them during his reign, killing his wife, an argentine hero's time in jail and closing with the life ending car crash. shot in authentic locations, spoken in spanish etc... the stuff films of the year are made of, or maybe a nod for best foreign film. it's the best choice for a biopic about the life of a boxing legend. a tapia movie has the makings of a good movie as well.

5 pages and not one mention of Carlos Monzon?
Yeah, really now! More interesting and unique to any other boxer would be the story of Carlos Monzon. The contrast alone between his successful, unbeaten reign as Middleweight Champion, versus his radically opposite, miserable failure of a personal life, particularly after retiring on top, and then spiralling out of control to the depths of a life sentence for the horrible and tragic murder of his woman. The same volcanic rage and cold as steel anger and hatred that propellled him to the top and kept him there, as far as boxing was concerned, was also responsible for plunging him into the abyss of a prison cell for murder. The control and calculating, steely demeanor that worked for him so well as the greatest of all middleweight champions, in my opinion, was nowhere to be found in his tragic personal life. THIS would be one hell of a movie, but who would play the lead? Years ago it was rumored that a movie of Monzon's life was in the works with Mickey Rourke (!?) set to play the lead. Mickey Rourke?????? Nothing against him at all, but wouldnt it be a bit more natural to have a Hispanic, at least a man with somewhat Indian features to play the part of Carlos Monzon? Monzon was never a crowd favorite inside OR outside the ring because of his sullen, cold, somewhat emotionless countenance and demeanor, so it wouldn't be a matter of overacting and emoting from whoever played him in a movie. It's basically a case of a super-successful and dominant boxing career of one of the true elites of ring history, who just happened to be an out of control monster outside the ropes.

The most compelling movie would be the George Chuvalo Story. Loses his whole family to drug addiction and suicide, never knocked down, but beaten up. In fact, his family did to him what Ali, Foreman, Frazier couldnt do, they KO'd him. But he still got up.

sandwichsurgeon
08-05-2007, 05:11 PM
Gerald Mcclellan maybe.

If done properly this could be an ATG film. The violence, the back story, the tragedy and the tension would provide an epic mix of emotion.

red cobra
08-05-2007, 05:18 PM
I also think Tapia is a natural for a movie. His life story just begs for a movie. I agree that the Monzon film should be all in Spanish with Latin actor's and actresses. I would hope they would provide subtitles in English like those Indian films do. Spanish language filmmakers don't seem to give a damn about gringos who dont speak Spanish, whether they watch their films or not. I would love to see movies about those two, and another one would be about Salvador Sanchez.

I haven't read the whole thread but I'd personally like to see a movie on Dempsey. Riding the rails in the early 1900's and fighting bar fights, hungry..then going on to become the biggest name in sports would be a interesting. He also has the type of fighting style to be interesting, along with the famous long count, and the Firpo fight where he was thrown out of the ring and had to climb back in to win. What an awesome story.
