He....... is...... a......bit..... slow....... but i think it's very interesting to hear what he has to say about those fights and how he experienced them. He thought Matthews had the style to beat Marciano.

Lovable old men telling heroic tales of the legendary Rocky Marciano is a testament to the symbolic power of his undefeated mark and the Rock's undeniable greatness.

As Larry Holmes has discovered, true admiration is hard to come by in the ring, but it is clear Marciano's contemporaries felt they were witnessing not only one of the top 5 fighters of all time, but a man who truly understood what it is to carry yourself like a champion.

Awesome find! by the way the main event the old bird forgot was Cesar Brion vs Roland Lastarza, won by Lastarza unanimous decision

No. His memory in fact failed him. Marciano fought the semi-final under the LaStarza-Brion fight and knocked out Pat Richards in two rounds.

Marciano fought one of three main events the night he ko'd Vingo. Neither of the other two were heavyweight matches. The one preceeding the Marciano-Vingo match was between Nick Barone and Dick Wagner. The one following the Marciano-Vingo match was between Lee Sala and Reuben Jones. Sala was a middleweight.

This only shows how memory can confuse things after close to sixty years. I wouldn't be surprised if the "Let Me Call You Sweetheart" singing was from another night entirely and somehow got mixed up in his memory over the years.

I think it would be odd if a crowd sang "Let Me Call You Sweetheart" after watching a fighter being carried off on a stretcher regardless of how boring the subsequent fight was.

O shoot your right old fogster! I just skimmed through rocks book and marciano was upset they matched him with a tomato can like pat richards and that he got no press for the brutal knockout while brion-lastarza got all the coverage. he told goldman afterward "I could have whupped both lastarza and brion. I should be fighting in the main event."
