Who, in Your opinion, will be Heavyweight Champs in the next few years( young Prospects/ current Journeymen/ "older" Fighters )??? :think
Roman Greenberg( Israel )/ 25-0-0-17KO
AGE: 25
[Only registered and activated users can see links] ([Only registered and activated users can see links])
...still young @ 25, and beating Opponents fairly easily( Alexei Varakin = KO6 for IBO Inter-Continental Title, Steve Pannell = TKO3 ),
...it seems Greenberg will be ready to challenge one of the "BiG 4" Champs after 1 or 2 more fights( maybe after His next *Bout with Damon Reed[ 43-11-0-30KO ] on the *Undercard of David Tua /Saul Montana & Joe Mesi /"Tank" Williams on August 18, 2007 )!
...Roman( arguably ) would be a PERFECT Challenger to the winner of the WBO/WBA Unification *Bout between Sultan Ibragimov /Ruslan Chagaev!

Carl Davis Drumond( Costa Rica )/ 21-0-0-17KO
AGE: 32

...watch for this Boxer, He will "make some noise" in the HW Division( soon )! Not only does He have 17KO in 21 *Bouts( high percentage ), ...ALL 17KO were before end of RD5( 14/17KO before end of RD2 = 9/17KO in RD1 ).
...Mr. Drumond should be ready now for "upper-level" Opponents( He just *defeated Sedreck Fields[ 22-33-2-16KO ] on July 30, 2007 ), and after a few more *Bouts with "name" Opponents( like maybe Elieser Castillo[ Cuba ]/ 29-6-2-16KO ), ...Carl could challenge/become one of the next "BiG 4" Champs!

Povetkin and Peter should get there eventually no matter what (everyone seems to forget that Sam Peter still hasn't won a belt). Solis and Bostyov will get there if they continue to develop. Haye, Arreola, Chambers, Platov and Dimitrenko could get there with careful matchmaking. Thompson could win belts if he faces Ibragamov, but he wouldn't keep them for long. Others seem fairly uninspiring to me.
- Tye Fields could get lucky and get a piece simply because of his size and his workrate, but for the most part, he's too unskilled and his chin is too shaky.
- Kevin Johnson could get a piece if he gets active again, and he might have more talent than the other American prospects, but he's taken a step backwards to fighting bums more often than not again.
- Joe Mesi will be too gun shy to get there, when push comes to shove. He was a fringe champion-level talent to begin with, and I feel like he's just being protected from people who can throw a punch at this point.
- David Tua will never fight a live body again, and I'm not sure he could physicially keep up anymore even if he did.
- Greenberg has a padded record from fighting bums, and I question both his chin and his ability. Others falling into that category include Bergeron and Chazz Witherspoon, among numerous others too insignificant to name. I'd be VERY surprised if any of them wins a real title belt.
- Other guys who people have had big hopes for just clearly don't have the talent - Travis Walker, Jason Estrada, Taras Bidenko, Timor Ibragamov, Ray Austin, Bermain Stiverne, etc.
- A few other guys look intriguing (Tyson Fury, Bowie Tupou, Michael Hunter), but they're guys who are just starting up or are still amateurs and I'd need to see more of them to get a real feel for them.

whats up with all this hype about Tyson Fury?? From what ive heard about him is he is big but was extremely outclassed by Danny Price, who really hasn't made that much noise on the international amateur scene.
Oliver "the Atomic Bull" McCall will be a heavyweight champ no matter who he has to fight be it oleg, peter, mccline, or the big VK
McCall looked horrible in one of his last fights against Gomez who easily outpointed the much slower McCall. If Gomez hadnt run out of gas in the later rounds he would have won every single round of his encounter with McCall.
World amateur champ(juniours) Denis Boytsov
Amateur superstar Alexander Povetkin
The present european title holder Virchis has the firepower to knock out any present heavy
Hell! Solis from Cuban can make it ,too.

Povetkin seems to the the one to watch of the up-and-comers.
I finally saw Chazz Witherspoon on FNF the other night, and I don't think he is going to live up to expectations, once he gets in the heat of battle with a top 20 fighter.

You're joking, right? Greenberg is a knockout waiting to happen - and if ya put him in the ring with Chagaev OR Ibragimov, it WILL. :nod
That other guy you touted, Drummond, is already 32 years old. If he's the future of the HW division, boxing is in BIG trouble!:yep
Povetkin is probably the most likely future champ out there. Boystov, perhaps Haye if his chin can handle a HW punch, Chazz Witherspoon IF he improves and sets down on his punches a bit more. Most of the others mentioned, like Virchis, and particularly McCall and Golota are OLD. If they were ever to by chance win a belt they'd be nothing more than caretaker champs, footnotes like Shannon Briggs.
The future of the HW division is here, and his name is Sam Peter. You'll see when he starches Oleg and then Klitschko in a rematch, then EVERYBODY'll be taking him seriously, finally.

Ehm ... no ... he wont
To clarify( if it was misunderstood ), I was NOT saying that Roman could actually challenge the Winner of the WBA/WBO *Bout( Tony Thompson[ 30-1-0-18KO ] is next in line ), ...I was only saying that( in My opinion, of course ), Greenberg would be a "good" Challenger to that Winner!

I appreciate Your opinion, but what does being in the "Top 10" have to do with challenging a *Title-holder, ...Povetkin is ranked #13 by IBF!?

A few stops to Mcdonald's and Pacqiuao can be the Undisputed Heavyweight champ!
mcall, holyfield.....who knows.....
I still think Vitaly has 3 good yrs left in him and a vitaly-Peter match up would be great. I can't wait till that fight happens.

Evander Holyfield( USA )/ 42-8-2-27KO
AGE: 44
[Only registered and activated users can see links] ([Only registered and activated users can see links])
...I don't have to say much about this "Legend",
...He has a *Bout on October 13, 2007 with the WBO Champ; Sultan Ibragimov( Russia ) 21-0-1-17KO!
Evander is likely to be the next WBO Heavyweight Champ( He is about to make HiSTORY = 5-time ), ...and then He could( with both Camps willing ) challenge Oleg Maskaev / Sam Peter for a WBC/WBO *Unification Bout,
...or Defend the *Title against an Opponent such as Oliver McCall( USA )/ 51-8-0-36KO( Who is also looking for another *Title shot )!?

Povetkin and Peter will win belts.
Solis and Boytsov might win belts.
No hopers:
Dimitrenko (canīt take a punch, freezes up everytime he is hit hard)
The young Americans (Arreola, Johnson, Witherspoon, Chambers)
I'd say David Haye; possibly David Rodriguez; Povetkin; Solis; and some others.
I think McCall can be a champ; it'd make me happy if he was as well. Evander has a good chance against Ibragimov.
Greenberg I really want to see step up, but I don't think he'll win a decent belt.

Tyson Fury - England
Not a chance. The highly overrated David Price toyed with him, remember? The guy is big and that's it.

I think Evander "The Real Deal" Holyfield/ 42-9-2-27KO, still has a chance to take one of the "lesser" Belts( like NABF, NABO, NBA ), ...but not the WBA, WBC, WBO, or IBF( at this point )!

Tyson Fury is young and fairly new to the sport so we can't jump to any conclusions yet, though he has already beaten Micheal Hunter (the US representative for the Beijing olympics I believe?) and has a silver medal at the junior world championships.

The current "next" champion is Povetkin.....everyone knows that I have been preaching that for a long time now. The future of the division could be Eric Fields. That guy has looked absolutely electric the last few times I have seen him. In the heavyweight division anything can happen though; guys seem to like to disappear into obscurity in this division. I would like to see Eric Fields in the ring against a live body before I "officially" label him as the future, but so far he looks like he will be a real force. Amazing speed and explosive power in a gifted athlete that takes his trade seriously (I have heard he's a gym rat to boot). He's currently at light heavy but he is absolutely ripped and could transition to heavy

Alexander Ustinov( Belarus )/ 8-0-8KO
AGE: 31
[Only registered and activated users can see links] ([Only registered and activated users can see links])
...He's RiSiNG, ...literally( ALL 6'7" & 290+ lbs of Him )!
He's a former K-1 Kickboxing Champion, and currently has a Mixed Martial Arts record of 7-0-5KO!
I imagine that He will challenge one of the "Russian" Champs sometime after 2009,
...but I would like to see Him fight Kimbo Slice in M.M.A. much sooner than that( this dude is BAD @$$ )!!!

My crystall ball tells me that Alexander Povetkin, Odlanier Solis, David Haye, Denis Boytsov, Eric Fields, Evans Quinn, Mike Perez, Michael Hunter and Islam Timurziev are the heavyweight future.

Obviously Peter and Povetkin will be alphabet champions in the next few years. I'm also pretty sure, that the economic powers-that-be will arrange for a champion from the USA. Therefore my bet is on Tony Thompson or Eddie Chambers collecting some vacant title soon.
And before the next generation is ready, watch for Gomez, Golota and Virchis in title fights, maybe even Skelton again.

No one except Wlad in the next 5 years.
Hmmm, ...that's debatable!
The guy I mentioned before; Alexander Ustinov, is an example. He will likely face Wlad by 2010 if He continues to win by KO( if Wlad is still Champ ), and He will SMASH Klitschko into little Non-Champion pieces( watch for this guy, ...seriously )!!!
