Naz and Cooney come to mind first. I think Foreman had some problems after Ali outfoxed him.

Diego Corrales didn't handle his loss to Mayweather too well. As a matter of fact, when I saw his post-fight interview, I thought to myself " this seems like the type of guy who will NEVER recover from this " ofcourse I ended up eating my words on that one.

Naseem Hamed. He practically quit after his first loss or maybe Judah with that tantrum he threw after being knocked senseless.

Toney looking to gun down his manager, would that count as not taking the first defeat too well?

Jeff Lacy

First one that jumped in my mind.

The fact that Lacy was soooooo overhyped, he had a lot to live up to, and when he failed so misserably against Calzaghe, it crushed him it was a devestating blow, pardon the pun.

I think everyone's being too harsh on Lacy... Yes he took a severe beating for 12 long rounds but he took a rest and came back against a decent southpaw Tsykpo. Given that Calzaghe was a southpaw it's maybe the last thing he wanted but he got in there and injured his fucking shoulder early for fucks sake! Give Lacy a fucking break, he still won the fight (albeit in a disputed manner) even with a screwed shoulder for 9 rounds!! That tells me that this guy has got heart, tenacity, a strong will and big kahunas. I certainly don't think Lacy is the most talented of guys but I would definately like to see him back to his best when his shoulder recovers.

He was humbled by Joe Calzaghe but I do not see one scrap of evidence to suggest that he didn't take this defeat well.

At this point this probably isn't politically correct but Diego Corrales. Outside of the fact that he cried, he damn near assaulted his father (who threw in the towel on the fight).

Steve Molitor...

He faced his first real AAA fighter and froze, performed very poorly, didn't box like he was supposed to. After that crushing loss he never performed as well again; he is far too tentative and his activity is way down.

Most people don't think much of Steve Molitor, but the guy was a pretty sharp boxer before his loss.

Prince Naseem was completely destroyed by it.
He had a big, big ego and once he lost his first fight that ego was gone and all he had to fall back on was his self confidence and self worth which wasn't very high as it turns out.
God I miss him though

Agreed, he won his next fight over a very good opponent and while ruining his shoulder, how can anyone say he didnt have heart at that point I dont know. He did good in the Typsko fight immediately after calzaghe but went down hill rapidly after the typsko fight when he had to have shoulder surgery. For me this points it to being more physical than mental.

Same here.

He was so devastated, I didn't expect him to have the success he did later on.

Taylor still had more success after his first loss than a lot of other fighters who never recovered after their first L.

Kelly Pavlik is an obvious one. He didn't take a particularily bad beating physically, but fell apart after that fight, I guess his carefully nurtured career had given him a false confidence in himself and when he found out he wasn't really a "special" fighter, just a good one who'd have to work at winning, he was ruined. He fought lethargically from that point on even against hand picked target practice opponants, and then there's all the out of ring drinking and fighting stuff.

Any revisionist history, especially courtesy of HBO documentaries, needs to go.

Oh, to add to the Hatton mention, I also remember Ricky saying he couldn't stop crying after losing to Mayweather and that "all is missing is a pair of tits".

Wow, didn't realise Hatton took the Mayweather loss that badly. But then again, it was an entirely new experience for him, not just getting KO'ed, but also losing a professional fight. I guess after the huge build up to the fight, he felt he had let his fans down (though he didn't at all, he made a valiant effort). Though he definitely took the Pacquiao loss badly. Guess getting KO'ed in the 2nd round will do that to you.

Hamed...

but I don't blame him he got raped in there....Barrera took his heart, soul, and courage...

barrera fucked him so bad, he had him on the floor trying to step on his nuts with his knees, then barrera choke hold hamed and slammed him on the corner like a cop...

It was a Clown vs Warrior in there....
