Should "Psycho" be in "" and not "Eddie"? Not being picky at all. I guess he's not exactly "psycho", but is a pretty game lad. Should be a good card as always.

Who do you reckon in the main boys? I havent seen alot of either of them, from what I have seen the cyclone would definetly have the edge in power, quite good movement too, Kanofski looks like a good boxer, any picks?

Cyclone would be overwhelming favourite, but I'll stick with the lad from the Switch!

Barge, they want people to come, sadly most aussie guys just love to get pissed, like its the aussie way.

but i do agee with u barge, i dont think that it should be on there, everyone knows there would be a bar there, but i guess the are just playin on the octoberfist/fest theme.

in the end, people want to get drunk, im not a drinker but all my mates are, and at the age of thirty i think its pretty sad that my mates cant except that i choose not to drink, i get called all types of names at parties just because im not getting smashed like like everyone else is.

with everything, people need to respect ones personal choice, the macho get drunk thing is fuckin lame to me, i know im on my own thinkin that, and thats fine with me.

The night is FAR from an event where we push the Beer aspect.

It is a play on the Oktoberfest theme. The real reason we chose it was the look of the females in the outfits, the International flavour and some changes we can try with our catering for tables.

Boxing events are VERY hard to sell if you just pump the line that they can see Boxing - ALL you would attract is Boxing fanatics - to get a BIG crowd you need mainstream sports goers to attend.

Also our biggest supported events with respect to Corporate Tables and Sponsorships come from those that we theme or create a different angle to push.

I actually rarely drink and completely agree that there is a drinking problem in Australia. I used to be one of the mob getting smashed weekend after weekend.

We also like the colour and atmosphere the name can create for us.

We don't expect many people to arrive thinking its a beer fest and if they do it will be a dissapointing night for them...

And to run the boring line - All our venues practice responsible service of alcohol and we'd expect this one to be no different.

Cheers
Brian

Because it was an obvious play on words Barge that some decided to take seriously which I think is a little silly to be honest. If I weren't a boxing fan it's the bird that would get me in the front door, I don't drink either

If you have to resort to advertising beer to get people in the door, it isn't worth it. the other thing about this is that often boxing events are in the middle of nowhere. very difficult to get to without a car. this encourages drink driving.

there is already enough violence in boxing crowds. to promote drinking is just going to fuel it.
you may laugh at this Phil, but i am sure you are one of the first people to get angry when there is crowd violence.
Non boxing fans just laugh at boxing promotion and administration. i clearly see why they do this.

Been two crowd fights in over 30 promotions that I can recall being involved with?

You are going to the wrong fight nights I think.

If we did it every promotion I would see your point. But for once every year ... this being the second time we have done it - I can't see the harm in it.

Boxing unlike the other sports that have serious crowd violence issues rarely draws alcohol sponsorships.

I admire the fact you want to stop the alcohol problems found in society but dont preach about it on this style of event.

Nowhere do we say CHEAP drinks, Plenty of BEER or Come and get blind!

As for the drink driving the generalisations -- how on earth does having an event at a licensed venue encourage drink driving???

I think you have watched one too many episodes of A Current Affair? Your arguments remind me of that style of lowest common denominator ranting and ravings.

Barge I think you are buying in too much on the alcohol side (and I am a tee-totaller!), it is a play on words with Oktoberfest and I think is a good marketing ploy from Ace and Red Corner. I am with Brian on this one

I seen a bit of crowd trouble in my time going to boxing events in south east Queensland, The best was when Julian Holland won Aussie title in 1997 again stefan Scriggins, Stefan got knoked out of the ring and lost the fight on not getting back into the ring in 20 second rule, He was not happy and when going back to dressing room, one famous Aussie fighter at the same weight Jeff Malcom had a few words to say to Stefan and Stefan just attacking still with boxing gloves on and all in started, Iwas in the middle of it because I was standing next to Jeff when it happened, Stefan king hit missed by an inch. Fuck up shit.

you are out of touch with society these days and that is why you run F grade boxing promotions. you appeal to the lowest common denominator by advertising this garbage about babes, biff and beer. it appeals to yobbos and that is all you will get.
i went to a red corner fight night at the sleeman centre once. it was one of the worst sporting experiences i have ever had.
expensive parking
No public transport near or taxi rank
cheap dancing girls (one of the only sports in Aus to still do this)
shitty blow up devices which looked like they belong in a 1980's theme park.
uncomfortable seats
food selection was minimal and of poor quality
mismatched fights - not one fight went more than 8 rounds and 5 fights were 5 rounds or less.
and the list goes on...
also, don't you dare question me about boxing crowd violence. are you seriously blind or are you just stupid? every year there are many reports of boxing crowd violence and i have seen it for myself.
i am very dissatisfied with you response and especially surprised with Phils take on it.

if you know everything go put on a "clean" promotion and make millions cause evryone will want to come.
another aussie trait- have a crack at those having a go, just like chix, drinking beer at sporting events and the off chance of a brawl in the crowd. they ahve them in soccer more that boxing!

Do soccer advertise for people to come to a game and drink? i don't think so.

i enjoy many boxing nights, just seems that these clowns don't understand how to do it.

I guess you didn't see the last Fox Sports show we had mate?

Bad fight nights happen and in case you hadn't noticed we have never returned to the Sleeman Centre since. most of what you attack is actually things we had no control over....

Seating - sort of fixed
Food - on site caterers
Parking - Ever been to Boondall?? Guess not as you are busy critiquing our fight nights :)
Dancing Girls - well you really don't go to other sporting venues do you ?? Broncos - Basketball - IPL cricket even has them?

How about support your local shows and stop whinging about an event that happened over 2 years ago.

You are hard core Barge. I think that is the first time I have ever heard Ace and Red Corner labelled as not knowing how to do their thing! There has been one show I can remember which failed to fire out of all the shows they have put on. One thing I could suggest is get a promoters license and put a show on and show em how it is really done!

I love boxing, but i don't like the way it is being promoted in Australia. i would love to see some of the big promoters from overseas come here and put on a good show and teach the locals how to do it.

there is too much protectionism in australian boxing. it is all about mates looking after mates. nothing ever improves and nobody is held accountable as they don't want to offend their mates. it is a sad state of affairs.

Thats a big problem on Jeff Fenech/Angelo Hyder cards barge but on Ace boxing nights all fights seem fairly well even and any of the main events are usually 50/50 Briggs vs Leapai, Briggs vs Wilson, Cotteril vs McCullen ring any bells?
