Are soft contacts allowed? When you get hit, do they ever fly out?

Anyone have experience here? Has anyone gotten laser surgery just so they can compete?

What are the rules?

Thanks in advance.

I wear contacts in amateur fights and sparring. I've had them knocked out during sparring but its rare. Even so, you still have one good eye. The chances that you'll lose both are even more rare...I've never had that happen. As far as laser surger, don't do it. I believe your not allowed to fight in USA boxing with Lasix surgery. So wait until your done.

Why the hell would they not allow you to fight once you've had LASIK? That doesn't make any sense.:huh

Believe or not laser surgery makes your eye thinner and makes it possible for it to bust if hit right. I do not think boxing would want people's eyes busting after taking a hook.

I imagine its due to having surgery on your lense...maybe your prone to have a higher chance of damage if hit? That's what I was told from some trainers at the gym. I might be wrong?

Wow that blows. I'm planning to get the surgery in a few years. But this is only for the pros right?

I had lasik done. The onyl downside is the ur not allowed to spar for 3 to 6 months depending on what ype of lasik u get. If u get all laser its 3 months, the blade takes longer to heal. Huge difference.

Oh ok so its just a matter of a few months. By blade, do you mean the keratome ( I think that's how it's spelled)? I thought all LASIK required it.

yeah thats a problem i have too. i wear contacts but i usually just take them out when training. its a pain though as the eyesight is really bad and i feel disorientated. but its better for sparring becuase when they are in i am too weary about being hit in the eyes. it's a pain. what does everybody else do?

I take mine out. They're too much of a pain otherwise.

Actually which one was it? doing pad work or sparring and got hit with a hook or none?

Unless you are not able to see at all without the contacts, which in that case you really should not be boxing, why would you need the contacts, considering that the opponent will be very close to you and in your face?

I leave them in. If one gets knocked out so be it. I have another eye. I've never had both knocked out.

I've have used contacts while boxing since I started.
In sparring matches I normally only lose one, either from getting hit or just when I make a maneuver and quickly look in a certain direction they pop out.
During actual sanctioned fights I usually lose both by the end of it, but I can see a few feet in front of me even without them on so it never really affected my boxing, although if I could I rather have them in.
I am getting the corrective surgery though, probably next year.

Officially though, soft contacts are aloud.

How is the safetiness of corrective eye surgery in terms of boxing? That is, a punch landing on your eye (increased pressure), any long term structurable vulnerabilities post surgery?

i wear daily contacts when sparring and they do fly out quite a bit, not even from hard hits, just any light flick near the eye. I think it's because daily contacts are thinner, not as good quality as longer wear contacts

That is a good question and honestly I don't know the answer. That will be something I'll have to ask my doctor next time I see him.

What sort of contacts do you use? I have the yearly ones. Maybe they don't pop out as much? I've never sparred, so I don't know, but it seems like it would be pretty hard to knock them out considering I need to pull them outwards with two fingers to remove them.

I use soft contacts, but I have daily contacts so when I lose them it's not a big deal. And trust me contacts come out easier than you think, when your sparing or training your contacts dry up really easy, making them easier to pop out.
