Golden Boy Promotions will put boxing matches and mixed martial arts fights side-by-side in a new partnership with Affliction, the fledgling MMA promoter run by an apparel company.
Golden Boy and Affliction will be equal partners in a venture that will put on at least four multisport events starting in 2009, Golden Boy CEO Richard Schaefer said Saturday. Many smaller attempts have been made to pair the two combat sports on the same cards, but Golden Boy and Affliction hope to be the first to do it on a major scale.
"I think the two worlds have finally merged, and this is a perfect example,'' Affliction vice president Tom Atencio said.
"I think there's a tremendous opportunity for crossover promotions, and to team up with such an iconic brand like Affliction is a big step for us,'' Schaefer said.
Do you agree?

I voted yes. As long as it gets better boxing matches put on free TV, I don't care if I have to watch/skip through even a crappy MMA match to get to it.

Having the best boxers fight each other would be better - rather then dilute the viewing even further.

I'd watch it. Especially if it was mostly up-and-comers. ESPN style or something not PPV. If they try to do a PPV either the budget won't support the best boxing matchups or they'll want too much money to see it.
Another thing I'm kinda torqued about is how I purchased the Marquez-Casa fight and then the next day it was deleted from the hard drive of my DVR.
Now before I go off on DLH about this, was it actually my service provider?:huh

This is retarded. Two completely different sports with different rules, regulations.
yes...completely different sports...boxing should never be assossiated with mma...
boxing is a very specialised art form...extremely skillful in a way completely unique from other combat sports...i would hate to see boxing coupled with mma...boxing as a sport deserves so much more respect than that...
have a look at any videos of joe louis in his prime and tell me that this sport should be brought into the same arena as the likes of mma...it'll be a sad day if it does and i consider anyone who thinks of boxing and mma as close relations as not understanding boxing properly...look closer..

Nope.. When I wanna' see a boxing, main event and undercard, I want it to be all boxing.. Not MMA fighting..
Yes IMO. Allows both to share the spotlight. MMA fans become boxing fans as well.

Totally agree with the fact that Boxing and MMA should never been combined. They 2 different entities and should be left like that, but not that you actually say it, but most fighting forms are unique, i.e. kickboxing and they all have very skillful fighters.

aye..i hear you...and wouldnt dispute that for a second...but my comments coming from been a life-long fan of boxing and knowing very little about mma etc...but i'm sure you're correct...i still say boxing is very unique though.
Imagine if you get Fedor or a top MMA star to fight on a boxing card... see see..

For those answering no, would you really rather not see a boxing match on TV at all than have to fast forward or skip the MMA portion? Let's be real- boxing's not going to get any more play on free TV than what's there now unless something like this is adopted because there's a rush to cash in on the MMA craze. Done in that fashion, and not in the form of more unnecessary PPV's, I don't know why people would be so adamently against it. Keep the pure boxing shows strictly boxing, the pure MMA shows strictly that, but then create a mix to put more fights on the air for both sides.
I actually like the idea.

If it were to work at all then the main event would have to be a boxing match.

before you know it you'd have boxers on mma bouts and mma guys trying boxing....and pro records would be made up of fights from both...
and boxers in gereral would become less skillful at boxing because of trying to have the ability to adapt to either sport...
and then old men will fill the forums cursing the day this happened...and longing for the days of boxing as it was..
like comparing snooker and golf in my eyes :-)

This is my main concern. I love Pay-Per-Views with four undercard fights and would dislike to have to watch MMA fights on those cards. That said, I guess maybe it will give Boxing exposure to a wider audience. I will be voting against it.

For the most part no, fuck MMA. I don't watch that shit. Now, if they had Fedor on a card I wouldn't mind. That guy is worth watching. But there's only so much of him to go around - so, NO.

Terrible idea.
Considering the bad blood between the two sets of fans, you'd have more fights in the audience than in the ring.

I don't see why not. I mean I'll watch an MMA bout on occasion - I'd rather not pay for it, but if it's a good enough card and my friends are down I will.
They are different "entities", but they are both combat sports. Boxing is basically the most savage discipline on Martial Arts, so the way I see it as long as the main event is a bout, the MMA fights leading up to it will be like a local act opening for the much more talented Kate Perry.

Unless you're putting on top cards featuring the top talent in MMA and boxing, chances are you'll wind up alienating both markets.
