Freddie Roach ain't gonna build him a chin.
but he will improve his defence of it, first comment i expected though. got any original?

His chin is never going to be good enough so the next best thing he can do is try and improve his defense so he doesn't get tagged with big shots.

Oh I'm supposed to be original and come up with something no-one has ever mentioned before am I?
Obviously I was unaware of the rules....
However good a fighters defence is, if his chin is made of glass he'll always be found out.
at least he'll have a better chance with a world class trainer and tough sparring sessions. i don't think i've ever seen khan sparring before a fight

 He'll have him fighting another easy opponent. I've heard he's got some bloke called Pacquiao or something up next, or if not then possibly some other bum called Marquez.

i've seen some of his training and although he was in there with some1 it certainly wasn't what you would expect. people underestimate the importance of really good sparring, it basically a rehersal

I just saw Amir Khan at a restraunt in southall after i came out of the mosque
there was a large group surrounding him, they were sucking up to him, but there were a few people that came and started saying shame, he said he will be back and then was escorted to his car.
seemed a decent bloke, too bad if it were a smaller crowd i could have said to him what alot of people on ESB would have wanted to say. maybe mention Jon murray thaxton romanov here and there.

a very good defence and knowing your limitations can take a fighter a long way

after tarawih prayer i came out of the mosque and opposite the masjid outside giftos, there were some massive group of youth praising amir khan. but i laughed when i heard a few people say shame you cant take a punch?
but he looked decent this time round with no cameras on him
edit: there were mobile phone cameras, i expect them to be on youtube in the coming weeks

Roach is nearly as overated as Amir Khan is...
...ok I exaggerate he's nowhere near as bloody hyped as Khan.
Amir needs to train in china if you ask me, he'll meet a lot of Chins there.

how did i miss that, i've met him before and he's a very polite down to earth kid. like many i have my doubts but i really hope he comes back w more mature in the ring and fighting to his strengths
more elusive
smarter
boxing on the back foot (countering)
a mayweather esck shoulder roll (wishful thinking)
circling the ring (away from the power shot)
ring generalship
more arrogance in the ring
jab, jab, jab, jab...the most important punch
can he do it? here's hoping

roach is not as good as people make out, but he's very good according to who he's training a bit like manny and would be really good for khan's style as would manny steward and buddy mcgirt. don't forget he learned from the great eddie futch
Even Pernell Whitaker, Wilfred Benitez, Willie Pep and so on, took punches that would knock Khan out if he had to take them.
You can work around a chin like Wladimir Klitschko's or Thomas Hearns'. They can take punches, but it's a definite weakness. Can anyone name a current or former elite former whose chin was similar to Khan's?
The only top class fighter Khan could beat in the near future is Paulie Malignaggi. And I reckon he could get stopped there too.

i memba paulie gave cotto a good punch that pushed cotto quite back, not a devistating punch but a decent one.
Floyd Patterson looked like he had a terrible chin, but he showed up later on

Jack,
I don't think its a matter of whether Kahn can become an "elite", he can't with that chin IMHO, its just a question of what he needs to do to maximize his potential with the tools he's been given.

Roach is a great trainer. Look at the way he has transformed Pacquiao into a great boxer, rather than just a heavy handed, predictable slugger. He's done well with pretty much everyone he's had time to work with.
What has he done to be considered overrated?

a student of the game like bernard hopkins doesn't pay a guy top $ to train him if he's overrated

Amir Khan parts company with trainer
div#related-article-links p a, div#related-article-links p a:visited {color:#06c;}It was billed as a boxer-trainer partnership made in heaven, but the pairing of Amir Khan and Jorge Rubio lasted only 54 seconds of competitive action. Rubio, the Cuban trainer brought in by Khan this summer, has been jettisoned after Khan's surprise knockout defeat by Breidis Prescott a fortnight ago.
The split was described as amicable, but Rubio's days seemed numbered from the moment Khan was put on his back in Manchester, despite the 21-year-old former Olympic silver medal-winner giving Rubio his backing. Prescott, from Colombia, had arrived at the recommendation of Rubio, but proved to be an opponent from hell, taller than Khan and a heavy puncher.
Rubio had been Khan's third trainer this year. Oliver Harrison, who had trained him since turning professional, was sacked after a falling-out in April and Dean Powell stood in for Khan's bout against Michael Gomez in June. Khan had his heart set on an American trainer and the Miami-based Rubio was picked over well-known names such as Freddie Roach, Roger Mayweather and James “Buddy” McGirt.

This Saturday, newly defeated British sensation Amir Khan will arrive in Los Angeles to begin talks with trainer Freddie Roach about possibly taking over the head trainer position.
"Amir Khan is coming with his father and attorney. They wanted to talk to me about re-building his career," Roach said today from his Wild Card Boxing Club in Hollywood, CA.

Khan blames Rubio for a 59 second fight?
He's a bigger wanker than i thought.
Especially after all his bluster about how 'HE' screwed up and it was nobody else to blame.
There's one problem if Roach is the new trainer,-Khan's next fight is scheduled for 6 December but Pacman fights Oscar on the same night. If Roach does end up training Khan it'l be like when Roach 'trained' Arthur. It won't work

good point, probabily the reason he went with rubio in the first place. freddie has to many other priorities (paman). However 4 weeks in the wild card must be better than 12 months with rubio hands in front of your face

Thats the thing with Amir, I know a few people who have met him and they say he is very down to earth and will talk to you etc. But some of the shit he talks when the media are around just backfires on him.
Good job you did not mention Murray, Thaxton or Romanov, poor amir would have shit his pants.
i'm sure khan didn't blame rubio at the time, but ****** and hangers-on certainly did and will have changed khans opinion over the last couple of weeks.

he will always have that poor punch resistance...
he has always looked top class to me in the past though...the only think i could pick out from his previous fights was that he seemed to get hit with overhand rights very easily...and i couldnt figure why as he looked to have a good enough defence...so maybe if he improved his reflexes to dodge punches like that...but up till this i wouldnt say he was badly trained looking at him...

It's on the BBC now as well. Jorge is officially sacked.
Amir Khan has fired trainer Jorge Rubio after just one fight having suffered the first defeat of his career.
The Commonwealth lightweight champion lost his unbeaten record when knocked out by Breidis Prescott on 6 September.
A spokesman for Khan's promoter, Frank ******'s Sports Network said: "Jorge has been relieved of his duties."
A new trainer has yet to be confirmed but top American Freddie Roach is thought to be in the frame again with a statement to be released next week.
The decision comes despite Khan's insistence, in the wake of the fight, that he would stick with Rubio, regardless of the Cuban's fateful decision to choose Prescott as the Bolton fighter's opponent.
The Colombian went into the fight in Manchester with 17 knockouts from 19 fights and promptly despatched Khan in just 54 seconds.
Khan sacked Salford trainer Oliver Harrison early this year and then surprisingly announced Rubio as his new coach this summer despite being linked with a host of top names, including Roach.
