Max Baer vs. Lamon Brewster

Baer. More power, better chin and Brwester isn´t that far better in terms of skill to make this a deciding factor.

After watching several of Baers fights on film, I truthfully would not give him much of a chance at beating most of the modern top raters. His defense sucked and he had no jab. His punches were wide, looping shots and he was not particularly quick on his feet either.

I like the more athletic and technicially sound Brewster to take this one.

I have to agree here. Brewster was a bit more durable as well, which is always a key factor when two punchers go toe to toe.

Baer was stopped by both Louis and Nova. Brewster has only been down in one fight, against an extremely aggressive Wlad Klitschko, who probably was as dangerous a puncher as Joe Louis when he spent that gigantic amount of energy. Other than that, he's never been down, and he had to face much bigger men than Baer did.

Both people had top chins. Both people had a lot of power. Maybe Bear hit a little harder. Brewster had more skills, and a bit more speed.

The main differences between the two are Brewster had more heart, and was much harder to discourage to the point where he gave up on winning. Brewster also had a better defense. I think Brewster win a decision or score a late round TKO.

The only real destroyer that Baer ever fought was a 20-0 novice in Joe Louis who dispatched him in a mere 4 rounds when Baer was in his prime. His other defeats came against men with far less power or punching ability. Therefore, I view his Legendary durability as being well overrated.

Brewster looked good vs Vlad in 1 and Golota but Baer was a tough puncher and when he was fit he could fight. Luckily for Brewster he did not have to fight an acurate power puncher like Joe LOuis or he would have been chopped up and spit out early. Watching Brewster vsKali Mehan, Sergie Lackavitch and Vlad in his last fight, I think he would have been too much of a target for Max and the punches Lamon takes could be dangerous vs Baer

This fight could have gone either way. Each guy could hit -- especially Baer -- but given each fighter's excellent durability, I don't think it would have ended in knockout. Whichever boxer has the better night would probably take the fight on points.

I personally don't think Baer was especially good, even though he could bang and he was tough. I disagree with the many other fans who regard Baer as having had the potential to be great. Baer always struck me as lacking in polish and fluidity.
