I thought Haye was going to fight a top ten heavyweight. Barrett isn't in the top 15, let alone top 10 of any of the big three and he most definitely is not one of the 10 top heavyweights in the world. Very disappointing.

Taylor and his people said "No Way" to Froch. When I make a comment I tend to look at a lot of factors - talent and willingness to fight are just two. Froch can live with all of the super-middles I mentioned on the show. Froch is a big, big man. I've been given some stick elsewhere over some Froch comments and I have to say that it is long overdue - the love in had to end!!!

I think Taylors people couldn't get USA TV interested in a Froch fight, they wanted a "name" and insisted on Lacy. Taylor is getting paid more and getting more exposure in the USA for a non-title fight with Lacy then he would for a title fight with Froch.
Not really a "no way" to Froch, just a sensible decision, Froch will still be there after Taylor beats Lacy.

Thank you for your show and for replying.
Mr. Bunce, you are aware that Froch had the option of fighting Bute in an IBF eliminator, but he declined, deciding to fight the man Bute beat, Tatevosyan, instead, aren't you?
[Only registered and activated users can see links]
Froch claims everyone is ducking him and that he could KO Bute and Berrio on the same night and beat Kessler and Calzaghe, etc., so he needs no encouragement from enthusiastic commentators like your good self - he already hypes himself to the heavens!
He might be competitive with Bute and Kessler, he might not; we don't know - whom has he faced for us to determine how good he is, exactly?
Just because he hits hard and has an iron chin, ambition and will to win doesn't mean he is the best SMW in the world, does it? Froch is a big man, but he is not bigger than Bute or Kessler, who punch hard, have very good chins, and can also box pretty good too!
If you'll allow me, please be careful - don't overhype Froch; it's dangerous - look what happened with Khan - commentators and critics led the casual fans astray towards disillusionment. Let him prove himself as a world class fighter first, before calling him the best in the world.

Khan worked his arse off for his belt too! I wasn't comparing Froch to Khan. I was comparing the way commentators are tempted to start hyping fighters as the best as soon as they look half-decent. Froch might prove to be the best SMW since Calzaghe. On the other hand, he might prove to be no better than an Andrade, or even a Pascal. We just don't know. He's exciting and it's great that we have him, but it's not wise to call him the best before he's fought anyone in the top 20. It's not fair on the casual fans who take everything commentators say literally.:good
it takes more than one commentator to hype a fighter. khan had the full SN manifesto machine behind him as well as the itv commentary team.
i don't mind if froch gets hyped at this stage of his career - he is after all fighting for a world title.

To be fair I think fans are disillusioned with Khan for a variety of reasons and its not just down to the commentators.
At least with Froch we are getting to see a World Title fight on free to air TV and we don't have to shell out £15 for PPV....

Lou DiBella (May on Buncey's Hour): "There is no way that Taylor will fight Froch. Why? Lacy is an easier option."
Bish, bosh and bang.
As for Bute. Why would Froch surrender dates and TV to fight for the IBF? Mick Hennessy has been working with the WBC for a long time. Witter and Eastman and Froch. It's not easy getting a fighter into a real world title fight without giving the fighter away. Trust me. It is why promoters often just work closely with one sanctioning body.

Thank you for your reply, Mr. Bunce.
How does that suggest Froch was better than Taylor? Even if Froch was dodged by Taylor, who preferred an easier fight against Lacy, does that suggest Pascal was better than Taylor and Lacy, because he agreed to fight Froch? And how does that all suggest Froch was the best fighter in the world at SMW, again?
As for Bute. Why would Froch surrender dates and TV to fight for the IBF? Mick Hennessy has been working with the WBC for a long time. Witter and Eastman and Froch. It's not easy getting a fighter into a real world title fight without giving the fighter away. Trust me. It is why promoters often just work closely with one sanctioning body.

Why would Froch surrender dates and TV to fight for the IBF? Well, why did Bute surrender dates and TV to fight for the IBF? Because he was given the opportunity by the IBF, and he dropped everything else in the works and grabbed the chance to prove himself at world level against any contender out there willing to fight him: Froch, Inkin, etc.
Both Froch and Inkin declined, preferring to fight Bute's leftovers (in the case of Froch) or Argentinan cabbies (in the case of Inkin) instead. Does that not suggest to you that Froch could have proven himself at a world-class level for over a year and he could have been world champion for almost a year now, but chose not to? The IBF offered him a clear road to the title within two fights, all within a couple of months! Or does the IBF not count as a world-title? If it was so important to him not to rub TV and the WBC the wrong way, instead of proving himself as a world class fighter, why is he complaining none of the proven top operators will go out of their way to fight him? And what gives him the right to say he is the best in the world and would beat Calzaghe and Kessler, and KO Bute and Berrio on the same night, if he is unwilling to fight such fighters when he has the chance?
Froch chose to dodge the challenge whilst moaning about being dodged by legends like Calzaghe or proven world-class fighters like Kessler, instead, whilst remaining nothing more than an overhyped PROSPECT himself. So, in this context, why is Froch "the most ducked fighter in Europe" again? Thank you.

This is too long.
I have an opinion - you also have one.
Trust me when I tell you that my argument follows strict boxing rules. Don King's rules: In boxing you get what you negotiate and not what you deserve.
Froch gets primo TV and top dollar. Bute - a big attraction in Romania, which is like bragging about a good beach in Blackpool - gets a Mexican. The old Mex-Rom rivalry! Wow, that's one for the pantheon. Boxing is a bums on seats business. I think I understand that.

I cannot compete with that wit of yours, Mr. Bunce, but, for you, I'll make my points shorter.
Bute, who answered the call of opportunity, is fighting a proven contender (who is good enough to beat him) on Showtime (14 million subscriptions in the USA), Canadian free-to-air and Romanian free-to-air in front of 14,000+ in Montreal. (A shame Setanta's not showing it in Britain - as Carl said - it's a decent fight!)
Let's see what numbers Froch does against the man he used to call "Fruit Pastille", before the fight was signed.
Hopefully, both Bute and Froch will win and then perhaps we'll have an even better sporting rivaly between England and Romania...remember Petrescu's goal in the 90th minute of the 98 World Cup? What a beauty!
Keep your powder dry, Mr. Bunce. Who knows, perhaps in a couple of months you'll be hyping Bute as the next Calzaghe as he prepares to fight The Cobra for the IBF and WBC titles...in Montreal, of course.

I am with Decebel on this one. You can not refuse the fight for a world title eliminator with a top contender, because you do not like the sanctioning body, and then claim that you are ducked and feared by everyone. Doesnt wash.

Well for a start, ITV has the potential for 50 million viewers. Froch would settle for 3 million. A Mexican against a Romanian on an American channel. Come on...be real. The fight wil be anonymous - great fight but anonymous..
Nobody is saying that Bute is not a decent fighter but he is not 'our' decent fighter. Boxing has never been a fair game - ask the widow of Charley Burley, ask Witter about Hatton, ask Bomber Graham about Hagler, ask Murray about Khan etc.
Let's hope Carl does the business and then he starts to unify on better terms and then I will start the Bute is the best etc stuff!

...but, seriously speaking, I agree with GazOC...
Hype is good and necessary; overhype is corrosive...especially when all the foreigners are bad and only our lads are good. It's the kind of attitude that have harmed the careers of countless British boxers...Calzaghe, and now Froch, being the latest. Their fault was that they weren't American!
True fans want to see the best fights more than they want their lads to win. It's best for boxing.
P.S.: Bute's not the best, but he's a proven contender. With Calzaghe gone, Kessler seems to be the best.
