wouldnt the best thing be to beat him down the middle with a straight right? think chuck liddell v rashad evans, i know its not boxing but its a good example. or something like donaire KO darchinyan. he threw a narrower punch and beat the wide punch out basically
Can beat him to the punch which at worst wil lead to your opponents punch hittin u high on your head.
Can just roll under and pop up with counter.
Can step into his punch so his fist goes beyond you best to keep gloves up and jawline covered with ya delts.
Can swivel under.
etc etc

A straight jab or straight right.

If you attempt to block or parry a wide hook, he's probably got so much leverage and power on it that it's going to go straight threw your guard.
Don't block/parry, just roll them. Much easier.

Usually wide hooks are arm punches.

I´m really grateful for all your advices, I really like to slip under it but some of the others are really good as well.
Thanks

For real though, roll under hooks, but if you see it coming and you wanna block it, keep your guard up, and roll with it, then come back with a punch of your own.
For instance, if you see a guy throw a left hook, block it by keeping your right hand up and simeltaneously rolling with it, then come back with your own left hook.

one my coach liked us to practice was hitting the inside of the wide hook arm near the elbow on the bicep side of the joint(far side) to stop it's momentum and follow that immediately with a punch. i liked to tap off the wide left with my left hand and follow through with a short and tight left hook of my own, but im a left handed orthodox fighter so i have a fast left arm. might not work for everyone.

Like what was said above, either roll with it, duck it, or keep your gloves up. Then throw a straight punch back. A jab can be caught or knocked down, a straight right can be knocked down using your gloves. I would think trying to hit the inside of the person's arm on a hook would leave you wide open for a body or head shot.

against some yes, it's not a universal solution for wide hooks but if the person is slow it works quite well. if you bump the hook arm while going under it, it works even better. i like to use it at least once if i feel it'll fit and if they answer with a punch fast enough i know not to go that route anymore, simple as that. and besides, this is something i've been told to do and trained to do in the beginning of the hook while the body is all twisted up so there would be virtually no power behind a right hand at that point unless the guy's arm punches are superhuman. i've yet to have any serious issues with it, just a little trick i like to pull out every now and then.

I tried it my self and to keep the guard up is good but when the punch hits the glove it reduce the power but itīs still hard enough to make my head hurt. I tried to go out a little and stop the hook with my arm. That works good for me, just need to keep my other hand by the chin if the opponent follows up his wide hook with a straight shot.
You have good ideas, best to use them all.
Thanks my friends

duck and right hook to the body.

Slipping would generally be the best thing to do, as it would leave the opponent off balance and leave you in perfect position to counter with a variety of shots, from hook to the body to uppercut to straight right after stepping out, etc.

You don't slip a hook, you roll one gay dude.Depends on what your definition is. Rolling generally implies that you'd roll it off or deflect it, whereas slipping implies that you'd make the punch miss altogether. Slipping under a hook leaves you in a much better position to counter, unless you're using a Philly Shell, in which case you could roll a punch off and be in perfect position to counter with an uppercut or straight of your own.
Retard.

Nah, ya dumbass.
Slipping is what you do when someone throws a fuckin jab or a straight.
Ducking and rolling is what you do when someone throws a hook.
Oh yeah, you don't know shit about boxing. My bad.
It's called ROLLING UNDER.
How the fuck you slip a hook by moving your head to the side? Explain that shit.

quarter step back and then 1-2
if your a bit too close it's time to do some dempsey impressions, bob and weave with a stiff jab when he is open.
i like moving to my left becuase the right hand is so far away and the left hook is too close to really laucnha punch.
getting close and landing smaller, finer hooks is also a choice
wide punches are typical of street fighters trying to do what is comon usage. if you swarm him as well you can make your punches toll far more effectivly.

if a hook is dramaticly wide i would duck it and follow up with a counter left either body or head which ever is more voulnerable

:rofl this thread was 2 years ago...
Slipping is to move your head in a lateral angle. Left or Right movement...
Ducking/Bobbing is moving your head in an up an down movement...
And Rolling is a way of catching the incoming punch on your guard 'rolling' off the momentum off into another direction.
And naturally a duck is more appropriate than a slip.
