Couldn't even find a good old thread on this fight to post this news, so I'll make a new one...what the heck.

i hope the real jermaine taylor turns up, but i think i forgot who he was, it's been so long.
Damn I'm tempted to go to this. Supposedly ticket prices are reasonable. Berto -Estradda should be interesting as well. I think I might have to make the trip.......

Wish I could make it to this fight. Still don't know who to pick though...Pavlik takes a great shot and Miranda landed often and never seemed to come close to wobbling him so IMHO, I don't think Taylor can hurt him either. Even though Taylor hasn't looked great the past couple of years you have to look at who he fought: Hopkins, Wright, Spinks...these are the kind of fighters that make you look bad. When he fought Ouma he looked decent, he just caught hell because he didn't knock him out. Pavlik won't be hard to hit so Jermaine has a wonderful opportunity to look good, but both seem to be pretty easy to hit so if I had to make a prediction I would pick Pavlik just because of the better chin. Remember Hopkins hurt Jermaine in their first fight and Pavlik hits a hell of a lot harder than Hopkins does.

I believe I saw the price range was from $400 ringside then 300, 200, 100 & $50. Not bad at all.

No place to go & if he tried to pull any ducking crap, he would have been laughed right into retirement. He's doing the right thing by giving Pavlik his well deserved title shot.

Man, you KNOW I would. But that Sat., 9-29-07 we will be on our way back from vacationing in Maine. We always go the last week in September & I can't freakin' believe this fight was scheduled for that weekend.

I guess by looking to fight the easier fight vs Calzaghe. But Joe C. & Kessler are a go, so Jermain was left basically with one fight...Pavlik.

Two completely different fights.
In the end, both extremely tough fights.

Stylistically for Jermain, Pavlik may turn out to be tougher.
It's not like Calzaghe would be much, much more difficult.
We shall see.

I couldn't disagree more. Pavlik is made for Taylor because they will trade with each other and Jermain will be able to use his brute brawling lack of technique to at least have a decent chance. When Taylor can hit you he does well, even though he sucks as a pure boxer. Pavlik is easy to hit.
Calzaghe is harder to hit and boxes with a lot of quick punches, no one punch overcommitted to. This is the kind of style that Spinks and Wright are much closer to, and would be much harder for the brutish Taylor. Taylor looked especially terrible against Spinks, a pure boxer.
While Pavlik may be more likely to KO Taylor than Calzaghe might, the fight itself would be much easier for Jermain's lack of boxing skill. If I were a match maker I would keep him away from the 168 pound dominant champion and take on the up and coming puncher who is easy to hit over the more proficient defensive boxer.
