What a shame. I had hoped he was aiming for a rematch with Pavlik, after such an heroic effort he put in.

CLAYPOLE - just thought I would tell you seeing as you are such a fan of Gary Lockett

He trained down Enzo Calzaghes camp.

But also use to train in the DOJO gym in Swansea with Enzo Maccarenelli

And I actually seen Gary Lockett walk past me a few times going to his car in the NCP car park by TESCO in the city centre :yep

I used to be a fan, right up until before the Pavlik fight when he told us he wasn't interested in the glory.
He seems a bit deluded in that article. He thinks he got the Pavlik fight on merit. Yeah, right. He got the fight because Pavlik wanted an easy fight (I don't blame him), and Lockett was guaranteed to throw the towel in before he even got going..

What a crowning glory to such a shallow career. What as Gary in it for? I used to have alot of time for this kid. I thought he was going places and followed he`s career closely. ****** made him comfortable. He did well out of boxing. But he was never a fighter.

The thing i dont understand is why the bbc pay him to do a boxing column. He admitted hes not even a fan of boxing, just in it for the money. He said he was more into football and rugby.

Garys a good guy and was a very good fighter and was a fantastic Amateur. He was poorly managed in terms of career achievement but made his doe which is good and i'm glad for him. Lockett perhaps is a prime advertisment for Sports Networks inability to manage fighters to 'prolific' careers. All they want is the wonga not the titles. And you can make more wonga as a 30-1 (20 ko) 'could be' then you can as 19-5-3 (11ko) champion.

Right decision, if your heart's not in it, then you should get the fuck out.

I wish he had faced more domestic rivals along the way, but that's usually the case with Sports Network fighters.

Good.

Now he has more time to spend making love to his money.

Gary loves a bit of the green:deal

I liked Lockett, althought he was not a very good boxer. At British level he was good, but even at Euro level he would had lost to all top European middleweights. I liked his boxing style and his honesty outside the ring.

glad to see him gone, he was no good for boxing. He was just in it for money and went out too easily against Pavlik, he is always going on about money and his good financial portfolio and being a property tycoon. I thought about him with a smile on my face when the property market has gone tits up these last 12 months.

He had already lost the Pavlik fight before getting in the ring, he wanted the pay day, but in reality the desire wasn't there.

yeah, and ultimately that's not much good for boxing is it. One of the Welsh lads on here indicated he walked around town giving it the billy big bollocks routine. Still, the property downturn will have seen to pumpkin head's Pavlik purse.

He retired a few weeks after the Pavlik fight :huh
Why would you announce your retirement twice :?
He made his money so good luck to him.
Like has already been said I would have liked to have seen him fight more domestic rivals and go that route but it doesn't work like that with Sports Network boxers.

The property market downturn wont effect Gary much as he can just sell his WBU title :hey

Anyone who thinks that all fighters do it for love is a fucking moron. All fighters want big money...

Don't blast Gary for being honest. And he didn't quit in the Pavlik fight. Enzo threw the towel in.

Sure...but I do think his disdain for boxing means he'll never be embraced and remembered as other UK boxers.

I can't fault him for making his cash and getting out with his brains intact but he won't be around the sport, and he won't be missed. Which is also harsh but true.

i wil never slag a fighter of for retiring but Gary could have allot more resected if he had gone for the british title.
