Really?

I thought he looked a bit shit. He should really have a target painted on that chin of his, because he keeps his hands down way too much, stands straight up with hardly any crouching into the punch, and doesn't tuck his chin in very well. He's looks terribly open for a punch. He also looked very, very rigid (uncomfortable looking in the ring). It is only the second time I have seen him, but I haven't been impressed; can't really see him going places.

man...

Craig has an outstanding amateur record, he is being trained by the king of trainers in Freddie Roach, is unbeaten as a pro fighting in America, where lets be honest here their journeymen fighters would probably win titles over here!
Bernard Hopkins described Mcewan as the best sparring partner hes ever had, he also plays with guys like Manfredo in sparring(the videos exist)

but the way you talk about him he doesnt even look as if hes comfortable in a boxing ring!
Trust me fella, McEwan is gonna be a star. Put your house on it. Or your parents house if you havent flown the nest yet. Just take my word for it.
McEwan is gonna be so huge it frightens even me.

remember where you heard it first. & no need to apologize to me when it happens, cos we all make mistakes when judging prospects the way you just did. Nobodys perfect.

I was really impressed. His opponent was shocking. Tough, but a walking punching bag. McEwan look pretty outstanding though. Seems to lack a good dig but his skill is very eyecatching. I'd say a cert for Euro level at least.

Craig is an ok prospect but really nothing to get excited about. He definetly will not be the next Scottish world champ but he could have an attractive career both stateside and on the domestic scene. Glad to see one of our guys taking the plunge of fighting and training in America, he needs to start fighting better opponents soon though, his last few have been pathetic.

It is very hard to judge definate future world champions. Hopefully someone special may come along and surprise us or McEwan could improve dramatically and get a shot in the same fashion of AAA. I would find it hard to pick out a British prospect from these isles that can be a world champion but that is not to say that one may come along. Who would have ever thought Ree's or Woods would be world champions or a few other lads currently around.

He was apparently a right lazy bastard in the amateurs.

Pre-fight instead of training 100% like the rest of the guys he'd cut corners simply because he couldn't be arsed.

Also, I heard he was stuffing his face with a couple of mince pies 10 mins before a fight! haha

Thing is, he still had the ability to win. Which shows he has natural ability, hopefully Freddie Roach and co have sorted his training out.

If he puts in the work in the gym, combined with his natural talent he could definitely be very, very good.

a thought he looked good the other night. Boxed a bit in the pac style. Ricky Burns beat him several times in the amateurs i've heard. Didn't understand why johnny nelson and mccorry were giving him such a hard time after the fight.

“Ricky had a brilliant amateur career. He beat Kevin Anderson (current Commonwealth welterweight champion) twice and Barry Morrison (current British Masters light-welterweight champion) when he was only 15 years old and Morrison was 17. He also knocked out Gary Young during sparring and has beaten Craig McEwan seven times.”

Well for the up and comer prospects I guess Appleby has the best opportunity to be a genuine world champion. I was fairly disapointed in AAA against Cook, I had hoped he would win and thought he could go on and beat some of the better guys at super feather. I doubt he will make much of an impression at lightweight against the top 10 of that division. I would be willing to listen if you have any names I should look out for over the next few years.

At the moment McEwan has not shown enough form to representv a future world title challenger but he is getting a very good education that will put him in good sted when he makes his return to Scotland, I wish him all the look.

thanks mate i apprciate your input.youve hit the list i think diffrent about ?mcEwan.i think he has a lot going for him and will stand a better shot for a legit belt in the long term

now appleby shows a lot of promise,i think he could do well and is being brought along nicely.

there is not many i rate to become dead cert form scotland.one i do sya who has been decent in all his fights is kris carslaw from paisley.also kenny anderson is worth watching;he had a decent amatuer career.but has been let down badly by fights gettin pulled etc.
