The Los Angeles Negro hurt Johnson early but failed to take advantage of his opening. Few of the 6,343 fans who paid $ 25,720 though Johnson had a chance before the fight. It was supposed to be a matter of whether johnson could stay the limit. In the 2nd round, Henry staggered Johnson with a fast left to the body and long right to the face, but johnson held on and from that point gained both energy and courage." - New York Times march 18 1952
