Just curious how many members are fans of either boxing, MMA, or both.

Both. Been watching boxing as long as I can remember, been following MMA since around 2001. Boxing will always be the superior sport in my eyes however. The MMA fanbase for the most part annoys me, and I have not seen an epic matchup with such talent as you would see in boxing. Plus there's more glass jaws in MMA than you will find anywhere. With boxing after awhile you build up a tolerance to taking punches. Where is in MMA you can take it to the ground and dry hump your opponent for 5 rounds never building up that tolerance. Jim Lampley said it best during the DLH vs Mayweather fight when he said something to the equivalent of "the skills these men are using with their fists tonight are light years of anything you will see in the ufc".

I like both with boxing being the leader. MMA doesn't require as much skill and discipline as boxing. Anybody can fight, its a natural survival instinct, but you can't put just anybody in a boxing match.(Well you can but he better know how to box!)

MMA is alright, but I love boxing.. I never really got into UFC, but Elite XC has caught my interest a little.. Theres only a couple fighters that I'll watch, but no way does it come close to boxing.. However, I do prefer womens MMA over womens boxing and I don't know why..

the first. boxing fan primarily, but i try to watch mma as much as possible. i used to watch pride fc mostly before it went defunct, i also used to watch the old ufc's all the way back to ufc 1 when they had participants from karate, tae kwon do, savate, sumo, boxing....... i have been a fan of fedor and nogueira for years. i'm planning on doing some bjj or mma training in the future, just have to sort out my time first. both are martial arts, and i appreciate the acience and technical aspects of both.

You saying "MMA doesn't require as much skill and discipline as boxing" proves your clueless about what your talking about.

Why is that? I also prefer women's MMA to boxing. Is it because there's some wrestling involved? :hey Or somehow it seems less brutal?...dunno, but same here :huh.

I voted for the first option.

for me and me only -
boxing much more, but i can stand MMA - somewhere between 1 + 2.
the limitations of the allowed targets in boxing are more intriguing to me. the smaller boundaries makes for more refined skills. A great boxing match is a hundred times more entertaining to me than an MMA dazzler. the short rounds, the referee's involvement, the coaches, the gloves, the cut men..ach - it's the best sport there is.

I've tried to watch MMA in the past but only enjoyed it on the rare occasions when they stood up and tried to box. Man wrestling is not for me.

part of why i like watching better is that MMA is marketed for white trash with minds of 12 year olds. I feel like im watching WWE or something. From the announcers to the graphics. No class... The actual sport is alrite. but the wrestling is boring to me.

I'm a boxing fan.
I can't say I can't stand MMA, if I get a Fedor Emelianenko fight I watch it, the guy is unbelievable. Still, I rarely watch MMA.
So I can't really pick any of the options given in the poll ;)

wouldn't say i'm a fan of mma...but i watch it occasionally, it all depends on how good a fighter is, doesn't matter what style he uses to me, as long as he's good

kickboxing, boxing, mma, karate or whatever....but still, i like boxing primarily

I voted 2 but really im in between 1 and 2. I don't hate MMA like a lot of bitter boxing fans, but i don't think its half the sport boxing is. It just frustrates me watching their standup abilities as a lot of them are on a similar standard to a street fighter.

Well bro im not going to come here and tell you MMA is filled with great boxers on anything but you dont really know whats going on there no disrespect but you dont. Thing is I boxed amateurly for a few years had 15 fights ive made the switch to MMA I found out quickly how important my hands where and it wasnt much. Things like side to side head movement, body punching really have no place in MMA same with the stance you have to adjust your feet and your upperbody somewhat to defend takedowns and kicks. I still feel weird sparring MMA because if I commit to much to a combo then I leave my body exposed and im down in a secound. Theres a few guys in MMA like GSP,Silva,BJ who have learned how to use good boxing in MMA but its tough theres alot of aspects you gotta consider in MMA.

Just curious how many members are fans of either boxing, MMA, or both.I watch MMA only when there is no fights on. I'm a boxing fan all the way. I don't like the MMA because there aren't that many skilled MMA fighters. Silva, enn, St. Pierre, Evans, Cung Lee, Shamrock in his heyday, Fedor, Couture, and a few others are true MMArtists. Many others are just wrestlers learning how to throw punches and kicks. They get caught so clean, and it isn't the ounces in their gloves that they get ko'd. Their defense just plain stinks.

Dude, boxing is head and shoulders above MMA...it is a less manufactured product and more of a pure sport.

When it was just UFC, it was way too brutal...it has now become WWE.

Seth Petruzelli just blew MMA out of the water with his latest comments on how they paid him extra money to stand and trade with Kimbo and not turn it into a true MMA competition. I would include a link to the article. but it is on another sports website.

I voted for both equally but I favour boxing slightly - not primarily.

There are less boring fights on the majority of MMA cards than boxing but the very best boxing fights are better than the very best MMA fights.

Cheers.

I like the fact that MMA tends to throw in the top fighters against each other more often than boxing, but unless the fighters are standing up and trading blows, the actual fights leave me cold. Boxing all the way for me, although I do respect the MMA participants as martial artists.

I find it strange how the same MMA fans that hate boxing are the ones whining that the fights be stood up when they end up rolling around the ground too long. I find most of MMA stand up fighting quite sad really, with the exception of a few (Anderson Silva, St. Pierre, Cung Le, BJ Penn). Boxing is a more evolved art and sport, while MMA is in its infancy with the competitors and trainers still trying to figure out what the best way to do it is. I believe that a superior striker/boxer that is able to use footwork and defend from takedowns and submissions will be the mold of the future. When MMA fighters become good boxers than boxing has something to worry about. Honestly, I think MMA is more practical in a street fighting situation, which is its appeal to the simpleminded, but boxing is far more entertaining. And if a boxer know how to defend against takedowns, he'll kick ass every time.

Had a very mild interest in mma since the early ufc's. It's hard to be a fan when most of the fighters are still crap. I watch it for the comedy value.

As much as I love Boxing footwork is ok in MMA depending on the situation and the type of opponent your fighting. If your fighting a good Thai Fighter that footwork will mean nothing and that Boxer will have his thighs turned into noodles. You must not know to much about all around striking if you think a Boxer just has to know how to defend against takedowns to kick an MMA fighters ass. I think YOUR the one that's simpleminded.

For ll that say "Boxing only";

What about when a Maui Thai fighter, or kick-Boxer ius fighting? I mean I agree, watching others grappel isn't always that fun, but anyone who's watch any MMA knows that not everyone is a "Brazilian Ju-Jitsu" student.

Some of the most talented fighters in the world fight MMA. Granted the UFC of late seems to be a breeding ground of talentless hacks, there are a few diamond-in-the-rough.

Fedor anyone?

It's spelled YOU'RE, and obviously you have a hard time reading and understanding my post. As you should see I quite clearly said "striker/boxer" and listed fighters that employ both boxing strikes and Muay Thai strikes (kicks, clinches, and knees) as examples. I didn't realize that I said boxing footwork specifically. Maybe its because I didn't. Next time, read the passage thoroughly and know exactly what you're commenting on before running the risk of making yourself look simpleminded:huh .

Most boxing fans do not understand MMA. Like boxing,MMA has its share of crappy fighters. I watched Erik Morales vs Pacman then George St Pierre vs Hughes on the same nite @ a hooters ripoff. Those were the 2 best fights on the cards. So both can have boring fights.

No clue.. It could just be something attracting about good-looking girls who can beat the shit out of you or it could be something else.. I started watching women's MMA since they basically started the whole bodog fighting thing.. I've been hooked on Gina Carano lately.. Can't wait to see her fight Cristiane Santos.. Women's boxing just doesn't interest me really..

You said and I quote "If a Boxer knows how to defend against takedowns, he'll kick his ass everytime" I simply said that's not the case at all. Secondly if a fighter is gonna use good footwork he's gonna get it from Boxing. I should know. I'm a Muay Thai kickboxer and a Boxer and the little bit of footwork that is used in Muay Thai we get from Boxing moves. So when you say "footwork" you have to mean Boxing footwork because that's where every fighter regardless of sport will learn his footwork from. But also like I said, only in certain situations depending on the opponent. Maybe you should read:good
