In a recent interview with La Opinion, Fernando Vargas said that he wants to fight Miguel Cotto. After watching Cotto's victory over Judah, Vargas said that he feels inspired to fight for redemption because of his loss to Puerto Rican Felix Trinidad. Vargas went on to say that a victory over Cotto would make him very happy, and he would hope that Mexican boxing fans would forgive his loss to Trinidad. Vargas also said, "It all depends on how I feel after the Mayorga fight, of course I have to win to have any future in this sport. If I come out victorious over Mayorga, I will definetly consider challenging Cotto for his belts.

Of course Vargas wants to fight Cotto, it means one last big payday.

Vargas doesn't look like he'd be able to get down to 147lbs. So he certainly wouldn't be challenging for Cotto's belts.

Cotto is at 147, Vargas doesn't even want 154 anymore. The fight isn't happening. If Vargas stays at 154 for the next three years and is still good then the fight MIGHT happen.

There will be no Cotto fight for Vargas. But while most posters seem to feel that Mayorga will beat Fernando, I'm not so sure.True, Vargas seemed to have not much left against Mosely, but he is still young, has tremendous experience, and Mayorga is no Shane Mosely. If Floyd came in sub-par against Mosely , he'd get his head handed to him too.Of course Mayweather never comes in less than spectacularly prepared, but if Fernando buckles down, he could make some noise at 154 again, maybe even 160. I mean, Taylor hardly seems unbeatable, does he?

Ain't interesting for Cotto.
He has more attractive challenge in Mosley and PBF. Vargas doesn't deserve a fight with Cotto, he should make some tune up fights before even thinking about it.

I read somewhere that he was around 180 now.
Someone in the forum got him on the phone last week, I can't remember who...

it was kirk. i think he said vargas is nearly getting close to his fighting weight. this would be a good fight for a last big payday for vargas, but a cotto move to 154 is 2-3 years down the road there's a bigger chance of peace in the mideast than vargas getting down to 147. much respect to vargas though, it takes a different kind of man to take the beating tito dished out and still try to get up.

Vargas has only looked kind of ripped once, and that was on steroids at 154. If he hits another training camp after the Mayorga fight, then it is not out of the realm of possibility for his making 147. If Vargas can defeat Mayorga, then it could mean a big money fight for Cotto. Vargas may not be considered the same threat as Judah, but he does have a bigger name.
Another thing to consider is that Vargas does not necessarily have to make 147. They could sign to fight there, and he shows up a little heavy. Depending of the circumstances, the fight could still take place.
although i know this fight will not happen, I KNOW IT WONT.... i would hate it if it did. my man feroz right now is in no position to be fighting cotto... Feroz has proven himself as a fighter and a warrior, and has established himself as one of the best fighters in the world, now its time for him to establish himself in the world, like he has done and is doing... movies, buisnesses, ect.
and TRUST ME, this fight WILL NOT happen.
if this was a few years ago.... or hell even right after hoya... it would be a differant story, but now its just not the right time.
Is Vargas loco. He is fighting at a catch weight of 162. How in the hell is he supposed to fight Cotto. He hsa nver fought at 147, and he sure as hell wont make 154 anymore. Is Cotto supposed to move up three weight two weight classes to fight him?
well... hes made 147 a few times in his career, but it was EARLY and when he was YOUUUUNG, and didnt have his bulged L-5 disk to keep him from training correctly.
hes already said that making 154 nowdays KILLS him... so again, there is no way this fight is happening.

If I were Cotto I'd most certainly want Vargas. But he's gonna have to get in line behind Ike, who has unfinished bid'ness - as does Wink. Lots of people could spruce up their resume nicely with an easy night's work on this tattered pinata.

He has also stated that the Mayorga fight is his last fight W L or Draw
You might want to change the topic to "Fernando wants to get killed".
Wrong time for this fight completely. Vargas peaked to soon but I do think at 154 and at Fernando's peak as a world champion that this is a 50-50 fight. A true FOTY candidate aswel.
but if Vargas ever did make 154 again, id pick the smaller fresher man to stop him in the mid rounds...

even if vargas made 154 he'd lose the fight just by killing himself to make weight !

Please man Mayorga is going to KTFO and retire Vargas let alone Cotto, who would rip of Vargas head and shit down his neck.
Before shitting down the neck would he get his ass rubbed first?

high reward, low risk for Cotto. Good fight for the fans.
Vargas has the tools to beat Cotto, but he is way too inactive for me to pick him in this fight.

he'd be almost dead at 147!its disgusting that he'd cheat and rip-off the public by taking the payday whilst only able to fight like he'd just escaped from a labour camp.
whoever buys that deserves to be ripped off,but it wont happen so i'll shut up.

Fernando Vargas wants Cotto!!!
What? He is going down to 147 to get his shot at Cotto? :think
The last time he fought at that weight is in 1997 when he fought a guy named Jose Miguel Fernandez who's got a record of 6-14-13. :nut

Who is he kidding, Vargas's left butt cheek alone weights 145 lbs. Everyone wants a piece of Cotto now.
Jeez Vargas, worry about your fight with Mayorga instead of some pipe dream.

Cotto wins at 147, but he would get his ass handed to him at 154 by the Ferocious one.
Cotto can't hang with vargas at 154. He would get outboxed and bullied by Fernando and get beaten up to a pulp in the corners. Vargas would punk him.
Only at 147 he would win obviously because nando would be drained..you are so fucking retarded...vargas can't hang with Cotto nomatter what...Vargas was nearly beaten to death by Tito...Cotto would nail his fucking coffin.:deal

With this post you have just captured the lead as ESB's greatest idiot. A hefty title considering bigtime 9 is still an active poster, but I never doubted you for a moment.

vargas cant fight no lower then 160.154 on down will just make it hard for him in camp and he will be weak as hell.
shane even sayed vargas was weak the 2nd time around.vargas needs to ko mayorga and then look for a big fight payday against someone at 160.

I think out of dlh, vargas and tito. DLh has the best chance at beating the younger guns it seems like he has more left then the other two which is pretty good considering he pretty much fought everyone. But on another note I would LOVE to see Vargas/Cotto at 154 it would be a very entertaining fight.
