Folks,

I read the article below am wondering what the Global consensus of opinion is with regard to which is the biggest fight for 2007 Is it Calzaghe v Kessler or Mayweather v Hatton?

(Please exclude Hopkins v Wright - a good fight but a bit slow)

Obviouslly I'm bias to Joe "Great Guns" Calzaghe v Kessler but am curious as to the general consensus of opinion around the world.

I'm really looking forward to the 3rd of November. Without doubt Joe will stun the world, show his brilliance and give Kessler a good beating.

However I am also looking forward to watching Hatton v Mayweather. Without doubt Mayweather is a more skilful boxer than Hatton but I love Hatton's aggresive style, he's like an armour plated tank that continually throws sledge hammer punches.

So, in my opinion I'd say the biggest fight for 2007 is Calzaghe v Kessler with Hatton v Mayweather a close 2nd

Regards,

The Hatton fight is bigger but only if Hatton wins.

Hatton v Mayweather is "bigger" in the literal sense becase the protagonists both more "popular" world wide than the other two.

Conversely I think that Calzaghe v Kessler is second only to Pacman v Marquez II in terms of quality, taking into account every fight that could be made today.

Hatton v Mayweather is "bigger" in the literal sense I'm not so sure mate, SWMs are usually bigger than welters.

Hatton Mayweather is much bigger. P4P #1 Vs P4P 4-6 or so. Calzaghe Kessler is two guys who are P4P 10-15 or maybe just in the top 10.

Floyd vs DLH was the biggest fight in 2007 and in the history of the sport...but Joe vs Kessler will be the most important fight b/c it's beteen two champions on similar levels....Hatton vs Floyd is between two champs on vastly different levels.

Make a poll.

Calzaghe-Kessler is the most interesting one, and perhaps biggest for boxingfans, but not the biggest one for the wider public.

"If Hatton wins it is bigger" :) Good one!

Oscar/Mayweather was financially the biggest fight, but it's not the biggest in terms of public desire or importance. It's a footnote in that regard.

It's no Ali-Frazier, Ali-Foreman, Louis-Schmelling II, Leonard-Hearns I, Hagler-Hearns, Holyfield-Tyson I, Lewis-Tyson... etc.,

People that claims DLH/FMJ was the biggest fight of all time need to do some history analysis.

In terms of Importance Floyd vs DLH wasn't anywhere close to the importance of Ali v Frazier 1 or Louis vs Schmelling 2. But we are not talking about the most important fight in this year or in history...we are talking about the BIGGEST fight....Which means how much revenue is generated from one event, how many spectators attend, how many people view or buy the fight at home or in other avenues.

So with staying on topic....DLH vs Floyd was and is the BIGGEST fight in 2007 as well as in the history of the sport of boxing. If there wasn't "Public desire" for the fight it wouldn't have been the most watched fight in the history of boxing and it wouldnt have shattered the revenue numbers that were previously left to HW's like MT and Holyfield.

Hatton vs Mayweather isn't even Mayweathers biggest fight of 2007. I am really looking forward to Pavlik vs Taylor and Calzaghe vs Kessler.

PBF vs HATTON definitely if you're comparing them with Calzaghe/kessler, but 2007 belongs to ODLH vs PBF

PBF-Hatton is bigger.

But the best fight of the year quality wise so far was still Marquez-Vasquez. Hopeufully we will see some of the same fireworks this time around.

No offense but who really cares about this Calzaghe fight? Kessler has never been on British TV, and I don't think the Americans really care about these guys?

Hatton-Mayweather is much bigger, surely?

Agreed. This Kelso guy is a nobody. Joe's just fighting this eurobum as a convenient excuse to duck Glen Johnson again.

this is a fucking retarded question...without a doubt JC/MK is bigger. probably gonna bring in about 2 million buys if its PPV.

I would go with Kessler/Calzaghe, PBF/Hatton and then Taylor/Pavlik, in terms of historical significance. Undefeated fighters all the way around.

I favor JC/MK most because it's had the most buildup and will go very far to settle a division.

I'm not so sure mate, SWMs are usually bigger than welters.

LMAO!!!

Honestly, there have been so many big fights as of late, its hard to just pick one....tho these two are definately above most.

Oscar - Floyd
Mosely - Cotto
Hopkins - Wright
Pac - MAB
Marquez - MAB
Raph M - Vazquez

All of the above could be mentioned. This has been one hell of a year....

First of all, I have to say that it's fucking excellent to be a boxing fan right now. The mere fact that we are debating which is a bigger fight between Hatton-Mayweather and Kessler-Calzaghe, speaks volumes for how well the sport is doing at the moment. Then you have the fights that Sues2ND has mentioned above. Great year!!

But I have to give the edge to Calzaghe-Kessler.

But Hatton-Mayweather is bigger than any division or belts!

I disagree. Calzaghe is a long-time beltholder and present king at 168, and Kessler is a career 168 fighter, beltholder and clear No. 1 challenger.

Both Floyd and Hatton are fighting at a weight where neither is as proven. In fact, we know Floyd is above his best weight, and chances are Hatton is too.

I'm looking foward to all of those fights, including Cotto vs Mosley :happy

It's a little premature to call either matchup "Fight of the Year" since we haven't seen the actual fights yet don't you think?

Right now I guess they're both equal, along with Taylor vs. Pavlik IMO. :D

Hatton Mayweather is much bigger. P4P #1 Vs P4P 4-6 or so. Calzaghe Kessler is two guys who are P4P 10-15 or maybe just in the top 10.

Calzaghe is top 10 Kessler top 15-20.

And you're right Mayweather vs Hatton is basically for the #1 spot P4P, which Mayweather already holds.

Hatton will not be PfP No. 1 if he beats Mayweather. I strongly disagree with any notion that he would be.

As said already, at least one of the two is fighting well above his best weight, and the other probably is as well. I'm superstoked for the bout, but Calzaghe vs. Kessler to me is a more true superfight.

But hey, aren't we all just ecstatic that these fights have been made?

Both are absolutely HUGE! The best P4P fighter in the world will be defined. Also, the best 168 pounder will be defined. Both fights are for the REAL title. All of them are undefeated.

They are gigantic. No point labelling one bigger, enjoy em both.

I would say HAtton-Floyd is slightly bigger though! :D

Both massive fights but lets hope they live up to it unlike the supershites that were PBFvDLH & Winky v Hopkins...............Although I am a massive fan of both Calzaghe & Hatton I do think that Cotto v Mosley is also up there & fascinating for true boxing fans...........
