View Full Version : Ricky.....a Bridge Too Far?

Considering Ricky's last effort at welter and bearing in mind PBM fought at over 150 last time out, this may be one step too far for the Manchester scrapper.
Not to mention PBM's outstanding record with victims like Baldomir,Judah,Mitchell,Gatti,Corrales and Hernandez to name but a few.
Hope I'm wrong, but the task looks daunting.
The thing is its not like PBF is really a 154 fighter. He came into that well under the limit. They are both naturally of a very similar size, I really doubt physical size is going to be an issue whatsoever. Basically, the guy with the better game plan will take it. Hatton needs to draw PBF in. If he allows him to go into his stick and x-country routine he is going to lose a wide UD.

Size probably wont have any bearing on this fight. Floyds extra talent will. Hope I'm wrong though.

Floyd is a super skilled and technically floorless defensive fighter and a gifted boxer. He is excellent to watch. Hatton really does not stand much of chance against a focused and healthy Floyd.

Floyds the best fighter in the world, undefeated, five weight champion, with numerous great wins and the current lineal welterweight champ.
FLOYD MAYWEATHER IS A BRIDGE TOO FAR FOR EVERYONE!
Doesn't matter if your name is Hernandez, Corrales, Castillo, Judah or DLH.
He who dares! Remember that.
I dont think itll be the weight that will go against Ricky this time, he'll have the right amount of time to prepare for the extra 7 pounds, no rush. he is also fighting a guy who could have stayed at lightweight if he chose so i dont thinks its the weight that will be the decideing factor. the deciding factor will be how hattons handles the skills of mayweather. Mayweather may have struggled against aggressors in the past be he has still come through, Ricky on the other hand hasnt come anywhere close to a PBF in his career.
the things that do go in favour of hatton is the fact that mayweather has struggled against aggressore with workrate, Castillo came close and DLH couldve won if he was younger and fresher and could fight for 12 rounds. Ricky CAN fight 3 minutes a round and for 12 rounds. if he can draw PBf into a fight (which he wont be able to imo) then he can win easy, if he can keep Floyd in place and let go with some power shot he could win. Ricky also has nothing to lose and everything to gain, he is fighting p4p the best boxer in the World and the majority of not all boxing 'experts' think he will lose
The thing is imo, it floyds fight to lose more than Rickys fight to win!
I think Floyd wins on pts, Ricky will make it hard for him but i can only see one winner im afraid.
But then again not many expected Turpin to beat Robinson, Honeyghan to beat Curry, Benn to beat McClellan or if i remember rightly Ricky Hatton to beat Kostya Tszyu....

Hatton came into that fight at nearly 160. A 5'6 man at 160 via muscle is not good. Hatton is a big guy but not a Montell Griffin type big.
Hatton said this time he will come in as a light welter so no more than 150. Hatton has been 149 for his last two fights at 140!

Ricky will train as per usual as if he was fighting at 140, but will simply stop short of starving himself right down to 140. My guess is that he will diet down to about 145 for the weigh in, and come fight time be approx 10lbs heavier than that

Same. I thought it was awful but by the end of it I started laughing.
the outcome of this fight depends on how mayweather fights and copes with rickys relentless pressure rather than how ricky fights...pretty boy knows what ricky brings to the table...i actually believe that pbf has fought, and beaten, fighters who are technically better than ricky..he has never faced anyone with the work ethic and single minded discipline ricky will bring to the ring....i think if pbf can keep ricky off him for 12 rounds he deserves to go down as an atg......he will, however, never have been hit so hard and so often as rick can hit him if he allows himself to be bullied back on the ropes.....this fight has many intangibbbles and , though i honestly think pbf is a 90% lock to win it here, conversley, i wouldnt be surprised if ricky takes over somewhere around round 7-9 and makes it extremely difficult and much closer than everyone has it......hatton COULD win this fight.....it all depends on how ffloyd handles the pressure....

Unfortunately for hatton I really do think he will be dominated by Mayweather and by saying that I dont want to be disrespectful to Rick coz he is a tremendous boxer and one of the top p4p's. But this match up is set for Floyd to have a masterful performance and you can tell he wants to put on a show. I see it stopping late on from a cut with Floyd about 4 rounds up.
One thing I will say, if Hatton does lose no shame in it as PBF is the most skilled fighter in boxing today. It compares to being knocked out by Mike Tyson in his prime, you've just gotta say "Who Wouldnt".

Hatton in nine gentleman!!! pbf has never faced anything remotely like hatton, or had the type of pressure put on him like ricky will, everybody talks about pbf being the best out there, but dont you guys think that that is an insult to the determination and commitment of hatton and all that he has achieved, the guy is unbeaten, and i for one have not in a long time seen a british fighter as relentless as ricky for years, it will only be after this fight that ricky gets the credit that he deserves, sadly" but i only hope that people in britain get behind this man, and not write him off, because we have seen it time and again, the british tradition is to knock a winner and make a hero out of a loser, what a load of codswallop, the guy is class and im quite certain if his fellow countryman get behind him in knocking the smile off theb arrogant pbf once and for all, then ricky will do us proud, and we should be proud of him as a nation, and show it which will raise his game immensely...

I can't wait for someone to shut Mayweather up. As a big Hatton fan I would love to see Ricky brake his fucking ribs...............but I just don't see it happening. I think he will make it competitive for a few rounds but will end up getting outboxed.

Had you said "a Bridge too far for ALMOST everyone," I would have agreed wholeheartedly. I do, however, believe that Floyd is the #1 p4p boxer in the world. I also believe that styles make fights and there is at least one potential opponent in his current weight division whom I believe possesses the style to give Mr. Mayweather absolute fits. You and I can agree that Mr. Hatton is not the one. If PBF were to accept this gentleman's challenge (which I sincerely doubt he will), good sense tells me that he will be unable to vanquish his opponent.
This is not to disparage PBF, as he is as close to a boxing God as one will ever encounter in a lifetime.

Well some interesting posts for this subject, I'd love Ricky to shut this guys mouth, but I have to say PBF is as good as I've seen for a long time, and his record bears that out, he's beaten anyone who's anything over the last few years.
Can Ricky do it? Sure he can, contrasting styles means there's always someone who has your number in this game, lets hope Ricky has PBF's.
But I'll tell you this, I aint betting on him doing it.

What I meant by a bridge too far that EVERYONE who faces Floyd will be the underdog.
Who do you believe is the man to beat Floyd? Williams!
