During a john Madden interview he said Marvis Frazier and Alex Stewart..What do you guys think are his best? Ill go with Berbick and Golota..I know people wont really rate this victory but I consider it a very good win..Tyson still had the pop to do big things even while washed up.

To me, the two most impressive wins by Mike Tyson were the victories against Trevor Berbick and Larry Holmes. The reason being is that against both of these opponents, he destroyed them in a way that no other fighter did before they fought Mike Tyson, or after they fought Mike Tyson. I realize Larry was past his prime and hadn't fought in 2 years when he faced Tyson, but consider this. Holmes is widely considered to be one of the top 8 heavyweights of all time, and was a first ballot hall of famer. It was the only time in a 75 bout career that Holmes was ever stopped. And in 1992, an even older and faded Larry Holmes held his own and gave a prime Evander Holyfield trouble in losing a decision. Just shows how good prime Tyson actually was.

Tony Tucker and Pinklon Thomas. Although Ruddock and Spinks could be put in there as well.

How on earth is Tucker a top two win for Tyson? After a few rounds, Tyson decided he'd settle for a points win and Tucker decided he'd settle for a points loss.

Thomas and Biggs, I think.
Berbick, Tucker, and Ruddock are good shouts. Golota is an excellent win for a shot Tyson, especially the way he dismantled him.

Two best wins and two best performances are separate things, I'd say.

Ok. 2 best perfomances... probably berbick and spinks. 2 best wins, spinks and holmes. thing is, I think he looked very raw against steward. very telegraphed rights. his sheer intimidation, power and visciousness won him that one. a more compose fighter would have given a much tougher fight, IMO. that Tyson was even more ripe for a Douglas type of guy/perfomance than the Tyson that actually fought Douglas.
Pinklon Thomas,Berbick or Holmes for me were astonshing performances.

Tyson's best 'performances' for me were Frazier, Berbick, Carl Williams and Spinks.
His 30 second destruction of Marvis Frazier is probably the most beautiful thing I've ever seen.

Spinks and Berbick. Two fights were kind of 'big test' bouts, in that one was for a diadem, the other for the overall title and he passed both with flying colours.

Spinks and Holmes- the two ATG fighters he beat.

The absolute peake Mike was v Alex Stewart..
The most complete statement made by Mike was against Pinklon Thomas.
Best personally was the first Razor Ruddock fight... Ruddock was also at his peak..
The Spinks fight was his most important fight because it shut everyone of his nay sayers up including Ring Magazine who insisted even when Mike had all 3 belts that he wasn't thier recognised champion until he laid Mike Spinks to rest.. Mike was under massive pressure until he removed Spinks from his black book....... LOL..

Spinks and Pinklon Thomas.
Agreed. Spinks biggest scalp, Thomas all-round best performance.

For me, it's Berbick and Thomas. Mercado caught a green Berbick cold. Otherwise, nobody ever came close to doing to Trevor what Tyson did. Pinklon was not yet 30, had good size, an excellent left, and a very respectable record.

I'd say Spinks and Berbick regarding performance.
Berbick because this was the night the Tyson mystique was proved to be real or a myth. He was extremely compact, very patient yet deadly effective when the opportunity presented itself. He showed remarkable maturity for a guy not yet 21.
Spinks because yes, although Spinks was hugely intimidated and past his best, Tyson rose to the occasion (the hype surrounding the fight was massive, and more than a few people were picking Spinks) and delivered a flawless and chillingly destructive performance. Spinks was a dead man walking that night.
One of my favourite fights as a result, was the first Ruddock fight. Tyson had slipped a little, but he answered critics that questioned whether he could take a real heavyweight bomb, and how he'd react when hit really hard.
Remember that although Ruddock was later dispatched easily by Lewis, at the time he was seen as the danger man of the division, the guy nobody wanted to fight. He had his limitations, but that monster punch he called the smash was a great weapon for him.
I think it showed Tyson's confidence taking on such a dangerous opponent, especially since he could have just as easily avoided that fight.

the composure he showed against berbick and holmes was something to behold.. i hate when people say holmes was "faded" the truth is they only went FOUR rounds! hardly enough time for age, fatigue or any other excuse to set in. Im not saying he was at his best but a prime larry holmes would have fought the exact same way.. and gone out the exact same way except in maybe 6 rounds instead..

I really done understand this. Spinks was one of his best 3 wins but not one of his best 3 performances. You think he should have finished him off quicker?

But that Thomas form going into that fight was very poor. Those 3/4 fights he had between Berbick and Tyson were pretty dreary. I certainly wasn't expecting him to raise his game a ton in that Tyson matchup & was surprised he made it out of the first few rounds. Thomas has to be at 100% of his best to hang with a Tyson and he'd clearly slid down the ladder.

I agree that Thomas was on his way out but still believe that it's one of his best wins.

I didn't know anyone picking Thomas to actually win the bout.
I did know a few people that thought Tucker/Biggs/Spinks/and even to a small degree Smith and Holmes/ had a shot at beating Tyson. But the prospect of Thomas coming out of the bout with a win was about the same as Tubbs==and nobody was picking that guy to win either.

Tucker a shot at beating prime Tyson. Are you crazy? Broken hand or not he'd have lost, wide. I respected Tubbs and Thomas more for the way they at least tried to take the fight to Tyson. Both were doing OK until they got caught (with big left hooks).

Are we talking performance or prestige?
Performance - Trevor Berbick and Tyrell Biggs.
Prestige - Larry Holmes and Michael Spinks.
the brutal, systematic almost sadistic dismantling of tyrell bigs goes down as one of THE most frightening perfromances in a boxing ring for me....a game of human cat and mouse, tyson just toyed with and destroyed biggs when he arguably COULD have stopped him at any time.....elegant brutality at its most chilling.....
