Who do you think would win this battle of Australias best bantamweights had they fought each other, both in their primes.

Great fight it would be. Im sure Carruthers would come all out at Lionel and give him hell early on.
Lionel though would be just to quick for Jimmy. Just another level in terms of ability.
Now if the fight was barefoot...id take Jimmy's experience to be the difference

Here's a match-up!
Both had a relatively short time at the top:
Carrothers was about 23 years old and undefeated (15 wins - 9 by KO) after he won the world title from Toweel. He defended successfully 4 times, then retired. His comeback years later being an absolute disaster.
Rose was about 19 years old with a 28-2-0 record after he won the title from Harada. He defended successfully 3 times (plus 3 other non-title bouts), then lost the title to Mexican legend Oliveras. Much of his later career was on the slide.
Who'd win? God knows! Carrothers certainly liked going after opponents early, and managed a high percentage of early stopages. The Rose that beat Harada was very special, and there was no disgrace in losing to Oliveras who'd probably have beaten Carrothers as well.
People sometimes forget our other great bantam Paul Ferreri. His 100 odd fight record is super impressive and his title list long. If not for an immortal in Zarate he would also be on our world champ list.
