He looks like he has a bit of chubb on him now, he's out of shape, too old and too rusty. What plaudits could you give Vitali for beating that Lewis?
Beeston Brawler

It would take him six months to get into shape realistically - why bother?
He has his money, his family and most importantly a fully functioning brain due to getting out at the right time - make sure it stays that way.

I will valiantly offer to fight Vitali for half what Don King is giving Lewis. The fight will have to be catchweight and I will need 4 month training.

Nah seriously I think after 4 months I could do better than Sam Peter. I am still getting over a knee injury so I would not be able to run away fast enough at the moment. My plan will be to run for 11 rounds then go full on in the 12th, no trying to block his punches just pure running away.

Didn't Don King watch the Klitschko fight? Lewis has already joined Joe Frazier, George Foreman, Evander and Mike in the mystical realm of the 'Heavyweight Champions' already. You can't fight a Jedi ghost.
Lennox looked a bit porky too. They should let this whole thing go and let Vitali get on with sorting out the rest of the heavyweights. Lewis will either be too old and show it or come out and beat Vitali, neither covers him glory and a loss would undermine any claims of greatness the big Ukranian may aspire to.
Lewis needs this fight like a hole in the head.

Lewis had a prime window of oppurtunity for a rematch with Vitali in the months that followed their rematch.
Vitali wanted the rematch - in fact in the ring after their fight - he punched Lewis in the arm aggresively and demanded a rematch - it took Lewis's bodyguards to step in and try to put Vitali in his place with a explosive clash of egos between these big men in suits who think they are cheese and Vitali the heavyweight warrior.
Even if Lewis had let a full 12 months past and had a rest - the rematch with Vitali was still there.
But cowardly or wisely - whichever way you want to look at it - Lewis opted to retire and not step back in that ring with Vitali.
I dont think Lewis will take the bait - he got plenty of money anyway.
Vitali reckons Lennox Lewis is the physically strongest boxer in the history of the entire sport.

To be fair to Lewis, he took Vitali at pretty short notice because the other guy he was supposed to be fighting got injured.
I think had the fight gone on, Lennox would have won anyway, either by close UD or stoppage.
If he doesn't need the money, just stay retired.
There would also be complications with the training situation - would he be happy that Manny Steward would be training Wlad at the same time??

Vitali was beating Lewis until he sustained the cut.
Regardless of the fact Lewis looked to be heading toward winning the fight the fact remains he busted Vitali's face up something stupid and the fight was stopped. TKO.
It was a great fight that proved Vitali was a far more interesting and potent force than his brother but he still lost to an aged champion.

King should offer Tyson half that amount to fight Vitali. That would also be a huge fight and one that could realistically be made.

Lewis was behind on all three cards at the time of stoppage. I think he was on his way to KOing Vitali though.

Vitali was beating Lewis until he sustained the cut.
Only on the cards. Irrelevant when the fight has no chance of going the distance.
It seemed likely to me that Lewis, although very fatigued, was on his way to stopping Vitaly if the cut hadn't done it for him.

Yup. I don't think we will ever know for sure what would have happened, but all that matters is that Lewis did enough to earn the stoppage and force the win.
He should recieve credit for knowing when to stop...the fact that he beat a very good fighter like Klitschko in his last bout at the age of 37 just further adds to his legacy.
Beating Lewis now would do little or nothing for Vit Klit. A rewarding fight financially perhaps for Vitali, but resume wise it does very little for big brother K.

one thing about Lewis was on his way to beating Vitali
Lewis was fat and bloated ant tiring at that point
It was no forgeone conclusion he would have beaten Vitali had the fight had gone on - he was vunerable to coming physically apart himself.
He was relieved man when the doctor stopped that fight

It was a great fight to watch! the two men went at each other...it just reminded me how good lewis was! vatila is the best heavyweight right now...i hope he stays around for a while & maybe after the hayemaker proves himself we'll see another great fight!! 90% of heavyweights are over weight & slow! its good to see a few of them looking like athletes!! yep pa!

I think they were pulling him out anyway they had put paper stitches on his eye he could not walk out to fight with those on anyway WTF.
Exactly. They stuffed the cut full of that stuff, no way could they send him out like that. Then the doc stopped the fight, so Vitali's camp see that here's a way they can make something of this, maybe get a rematch where pulling out wouldn't have warranted one.

It did look very much like they were pulling out anyway. At first Vitali doesn't do anything then his promoter whispers something in his ear and he jumps up and goes nuts.
Beeston Brawler
10-15-2008, 11:53 AM
The promoter probably told him to kick up a fuss and say how hard done by he was and that he wanted an immediate rematch.
Had the fight gone on much longer, he was getting knocked out, no question. To be fair, his performance in the first six merited a rematch given the outcome - but Lennox was probably 'mentally retired' at that point and probably didn't fancy getting into top shape another time to fight.

Lewis is too smart to ever take this fight, and financially he does not need to.
This fight will never happen.
Hypothetically though, Vitali would stop him. He has been away for too long and he is too rusty.

Yes but if he is offered £50m+ I am sure LL was jump at the chance. He still keeps fit and after a few months training should be able to get through 7/8 rounds.
With regards to ring rust, the same was said about Vit last week and he shook off the rust without any problems.

Lennox Lewis was totally out of shape when he fought Vk, Lennox Lewis bullied and used his physicall strength over Vk in that fight.
"He was bullying him and beating him up, no slick boxing skills from Lennox Lewis none....because he was not in shape to fight his normal/natural fight"

It reminded me a bit of Bowe-Golota I actually, in some ways...in that one, Bowe started off boxing but realised he really couldn't hack it with the shape he was in, so tried to turn it into a brawl.
Problem there was that Golota could out-brawl him as well, and pummelled him even harder.

lennox hasnt abused his body and 15 weeks of hard training and hed be ready no problem.also lennox would beat vitali again ,some of you dont realise you witnessed maybe the greatest heavyweight ever in lennox lewis.
true he doesnt need the cash but £30 mill for 3 months work is tempting to any man.
lewis would bust his face up worse if they fought again klitchko is like a "mummy" shuffling around slowly where as lennox will be bouncing up on his toes with that awesome jab shooting into vitalis mug non stop. lennox tko 8.

Vitali started brilliant winning the first to rounds. I understand that Lewis was not ment to be fighting Vitali but another opponent, Vitali stepped in and Lewis didn't no much about him and couldn't prepare properly for him. I think the cut saved lewis from a loss because as the cut appeared Vitali began to ease off.

King and Klitschko need to give this shit up. It's fucking boring. Klitschko, now he is back, needs to concentrate on exciting the division and beating the best out there. Lewis has already mauled Klitschko's face - and that was a fat old Lewis who had already beaten everyone out there. Remind me, what the fuck would beating an even fatter, even older Lewis actually prove??
vk might have been out of the ring for 4 years, but he stayed fit and was training for much of that time.
lennox looks like he's just happily living out a very comfortable life.
vk should fight valuev and then call it a day until the next great hw emerges.

Perhaps, but when that amount of money is being offered I've no doubt Lennox wil at least, consider coming back. Lewis may indeed be financially comfortable, but we don't know his spending habits, his lifestyle, etc.
£25,000,000 is an awful lot indeed! I'll fight Vitali now for half that amount. I'm 6'0, weight 140lbs by the way!
