Just spar more man. You don't need to get hit in a certain area to get "toughen" up. If your feeling frisky get in the ring 3-4 times a week. That should toughen you up just fine.

toughness is mental. you either have it or develop it, but it usually is the same your whole life. However, getting hit more often will increase your immunity to hits/pain.

nowhere. Doing a drill where you know the hits are coming and where they're being thrown isn't accurate simulation for what it's like in the ring. If you want to strengthen your abs with medicine ball drops or have someone hit your stomach, fine. But, other than that, just spar. and prepare yourself mentally.

everywhere...face, head, chest, stomach, arms...everywhere...even gettin a lil slap in the face (slap boxing) can "toughen u up"

You can ask your partner to hit you light in the midsection generally.
We use that kind of training but he should be careful hiting you at the ribs, liver and splin. Solar plexus is out of the question.
It is like "toughening up your nuts".

My trainer drops the medicine ball 50 times on my midsection and 50 on each side. Another thing I like to do is have someone throw light punches at my head... very lightly to the face and a little harder to my forehead and I just work on keeping my head still and my eyes open and focusing on their shoulders. This isn't really toughening me up but I think it helps in terms of avoiding some instinctual flinching and getting distracted when someone flurries at me.

There's not specific place you need to get hit to toughen up for christ's sake! The only way to "build toughness" as you say is to spar a lot and work on the mental side of getting hit, meaning, you need to work on your reaction to getting hit. Work on keeping your composure, staying focused, etc when you are getting hit.

Having somebody punch you to toughen up doesn't sound too smart.

younghypnotiq
08-03-2007, 06:05 PM
why?

Muchmoore
08-03-2007, 08:36 PM
why?

Because it hurt like hell and you wouldn't gain anything except bruises. If you spar you get "tough" anyway and it helps you learn to box.

You'll never strengthen your solar plexus or your liver. You can work on your abs, but that's it.

i did the ball drops but sometimes the ball hits me in the liver and it fucking hurts. do you think that is bad?

Who is dropping the ball? I've never heard of anyone being so inaccurate. That is awful. It doesnt matter whether you braced yourself, tensed up for the punch and stood there and took it (wow! You already knew it was coming). The ones that happen in reality and HURT are the ones that catch you while you are in the middle of doing something else. The only way to deal with it is, MENTAL FORTITUDE.

Do stomach punching drills.

Have him punch you all around your stomach.

Don't listen to what everyone else says about how you can't toughen yourself up.

You can, do that.

Do it in numbers, like have him punch you 50 times, then switch, then you do it, then switch,.......etc.

alright thanks capfund. liver shots to?

You don't gotta go crazy with it.

The point isn't so that ya'll will be spittin blood at the end of the workout.

Just tell the guy how hard you want him to hit you. If he ain't hittin you hard enough, tell him to put something on it.

Have him hit you with lefts and rights, hooks and straights, change it up.

Do sets of like 50 punches or 30 or however many you feel is necessary.

Just don't get hit and spar more. The random punches received in sparring is enough to toughen the body. Worry about not getting hit. And don't let them hit you in the liver because that's crazy and you'll end up in the hospital.

My God. Just extend your arms to the ceiling and ask someone to give you left and right body hooks, slowly increasing the intensity. Breathe out on each hit. When you can't take it no more, the signal: Drop your hands.
Now repeat that with a frontal body shot to the abdomen / solar plexus area.... Hypnotiq.
You can't expect to absorb all this in such a short time. Dude....

You can do whatever you want.

Getting punched in the stomach toughens up your muscles and prepares you for getting hit.

He's asking a good question.

some tough skinhead mexican guy always used to do that to the new kids over at the AM gym. he'd take a break in the middle of the spar, and just let them wail at his ribs then counter after about 15 seconds tellin them they best bring their hands back to their chins :nono

Having someone punch your abs is completely different than dropping a medicine ball on your liver!
