Shame - felt Willie had a chance here

Basically Salita's management wanted options on his next three fights if he won - for the same money that he was getting in this fight.

Apparently this is a pittance - he was earning this kind of money four years ago but was willing to take it for the chance to fight at MSG on a big card, and (hopefully) beat a potential challenger and hypejob - like he beat Khan (IMO).

After a tune-up the plan is to defend the inter-alphabetty a couple of times before getting an IBO shot (either at Diaz -unlikely or for a vacant strap) which would hopefully pay decent money.

My eye would be on a Khan rematch or even Alex Arthur to be honest, but each to their own.

Shame. This was Limonds big crack stateside. No matter how good he is I can not see him getting a good opportunity here in Britain either at lightweight or light welter. The Arthur and Khan fights are good but will hardly lead anywhere and I doubt he would get much better deal off of ****** than he would the Jews.

Man that sucks. Looks like Salitas management was maybe of the feeling that many on here were too , that Salita was in trouble ! Like the idea of a AA rematch ( Alex has declinded and Willie has improved I think we'd see a reversal ) but I'd also love to see Willie in a big money fight against a yank or a mexican he f**kin deserves it.

Ho hum

thanks Beeston !

I was surprised that Limond lost to Alex Arthur to be honest. Average Alex is someone whom I have never really rated - having been destroyed by Michael Gomez and now schooled (correct word) by Nicky Cook.

Limond beat Khan into next week in round six (?) - only a favour from the ref saved Amir that night. Perhaps the favour would have been to count him out, to save the embarrassing KO from Prescott.

Even fighting at the MSG does not make up for being a slave to some German twats.

Greedy cunts.

i don't get why they'd want options on limond anyway. how marketable would he have been for beating salita?

Limond Vs Thaxton would be a great matchup, Willie has a real good chance and Isn't as faded as Thaxton.

I am very dissapointed. :-(

Willie should go for Thaxton, maybe.

Limond-Thaxton would be massively intriguing. I think Willie needs a couple of warm up fights first. I'd like to see him take on maybe Al Hamadi then Bredis Prescott before stepping up in class against Thaxton ;-)

Wasn't this called off when they rescheduled the the main event? I'm sure I read that on here a while ago...

Perhaps it was back on again...

On boxing scene they're saying it could still happen, guy from Braveheart promotions saying future options were never part of the negotiations.

Man, Im gutted to hear Willie has pulled out & the fight wont happen now...
I was well hyped for this fight too. Thought Willie had a good chance of pulling off the win.

No offence to Willie - he's a nice guy - but he's not on Thaxton's level at the moment. He's just won the European belt, and is looking to move on towards a world title shot. Willie, while as I said I have a lot of respect for the guy, hasn't reached European level yet.

Why do you consider Willie such a big underdog against Thaxton, jeff?:think

And how exactly would fighting Prescott prepare Willie for Thaxton?:huh

Limond should not be a big underdog against Thaxton thats for sure. Slight underdog.

Yap! Completely missed the Khan reference...:patsch

I am used to jeff saying things that don't make sense and being completely serious about it too, in my defence...:p

I think Limond v Thaxton would be a great fight which could go either way. Limond would be able to outbox Thaxton but Jono would have the power to put Limond away if he could land. Very intruiging bout and one I'd love to see made.

Well.............

Limond has a win over Amir Khan.......

Who ducked Thaxton......

Thaxton is more proven, but I wouldn't mind seeing this.

Thaxton will be after a couple of big fights and hopefully a tilt at a world title (ie. a belt) before retiring. I doubt Limond is on his radar.
