I wasnt sure about Paulie but I watched the documentary Magic Man recently and I have come to respect him as it made me look at him in a whole new light.
That coupled with his performance in losing to Cotto has made me somewhat of a fan of his......
But whether he has enough to beat Hatton i'm not sure its a hard fight for either fighter Imo depending on which version of either fighter turns up tho i'm leaning 65/35 in Hattons favour
Anyways I was just wondering on what you guys thoughts on Paulie are.... as a fighter:bbb

i think anyone on the brit forum who slag of malliganggi has not seen the film. you gotta respect a guy who fights in his style after not have many amateur fights. also he is prepared to fight the best. he could have made a good life for himself fighting his crappy mandos but instead he gets in there with cotto (who nobody wanted anything off at that time) and hatton.
he may be cocky and have wierd hair, but thats what has made him a decent name. hes not got much power so he had to something to stand out.

Very average.
People had Cotto down as some kind of monster - but the fact was that he was horrendously weight drained. In his last two fights he has looked absolutely awful - losing IMO to Ngoudjo and drawing to N'Dou on my card.
Not to mention the ridiculous hairstyles and quotes - makes himself look a right prize plonker.
Hatton TKO 9 :deal

Its a bit of an exageration to say nobody wanted any part of Cotto, you're making it sound like Cotto was having trouble finding fights.

Firstly i couldnt give a shit about his background etc... this is based on in the ring
He's a good slick boxer, with a massive heart and has proven he'll fight on both empty and on pride. The downside is he lacks real offence. I've no doubt if he catches somebody right he'll hurt them, as Ottke did with Mundaine, but he's missing something which will cost him rounds, and eventually the fight, against the likes of Hatton and cotto. If a fighter doesnt think the other can hurt him you have a problem, at elite elvel Paulies got that problem. If N'dou and Ngojdu <sp> can get to him so will the others. It's lucky he's got a cracking set of whiskers to amke up for the power he's missing.

in many ways Paulie is the polar opposite of Hatton.....stylish, good-looking, funny, down-to-earth. He's not an elite fighter but never mind, lets hope he knocks Hatton's cunt in.

Jesus have you guys ever stopped to think how sad you really are? What is this compulsive obsession with hating a TV persona who you don't know personally from Adam? How about taking up a hobby, chess is meant to broaden the mind!

He's pretty average really, cant bang and despite the hype isnt that great a boxer either, he's decent though and has a lot of heart. But he lost to Cotto (no shame in that obviously), got a gift decision against Ngoudjo, was horrendous in his rematch with Ndou and will lose here.

God, I hope Ricky beats the hair dye out of Paulie, sending him to fight fighters his own level like those Ngoudjo and Ndou he thinks he's too good for.

Any 140lb'er in their right mind would have taken a fight with Cotto at that point - rocked by Torres and struggling to beat the scales.
Back to Gaz's point though.....
The world must be coming to something when your best result is a loss.

Not just a loss, a fucking good hiding. Infact, the only plus form the fight was the heart and determination shown.

So does that mean that Ricky Hatton should get as much credit for fighting Floyd Mayweather and losing?
OK he didn't hear the final bell - but was taking on a prime P4P No.1 outside of his weight division, whilst Paulie was taking on a guy who had been eating celery for 3 months to make 140lbs!

this whole cotta weight thing is a load of crap. if he was that weight drained the fight would of been called off.

Rickys beaten good enough fighters for his loss not to be his most noteworthy fight.

When, ever, has a fight been called off when the fighter has made weight?

The only time I can think of was when Castillo was to fight Bradley for the right to face Witter.
From what I understand, he eventually got to 140 but was so off-colour the doctor just said no.
If I can find the pics from the weigh in I will post them - but he looked like an AIDS victim on those scales.

who says he hasn't had many amateur fights. there was a guy on this forum that used to train with him. they were amateurs together when they were younger.

During Malignaggi amateur career, he trained at Gleason's Gym in Brooklyn. As an amateur, he won the 1998 and 2001 New York Golden Gloves Amateur Championship, as well as the 2001 United States National Amateur Championship.
Malignaggi also won the 2001 Everlast U.S. Championships on March 13-17, 2001 in Colorado Springs, Colo by beating Van Oscar Penovaroff, Antonio Davis, and Luis Merced, all by decision. his record was 40-9.

Thats a pull out, not a call off.
Appreciate Beestons point about castillo. Didnt think he'd made the weight for Bradley. Assumed he'd failed to make weight when the fight was called off.
