I read on ESPN news this morning that Evander " The Real Deal " Holyfield, may once again take a stab at acquiring another title.
His people believe the deal will go through, and that the fight will likely take place on December 20th either in Germany or Switzerland.
Holyfield's purse was undisclosed, but was reported as being less than $750,000...
Ouch!!!!

I hope this one doesn't happen, Holyfield should retire. It will be a boring one-sided fight like Holyfield-Ibragimov (though he was actually given a chance at the time, Sonny's Jab though he'd win). The fact that Valuev isn't a big hitter will only make it a prolonged punishment a la Ali-Holmes.
I don't think it will be made though, i've also heard Tyson-Holyfield III nearly being signed several times. And Valuev was supposed to fight Golota in december, which makes sense because both are King fighters and he's just lost Peter.

I read this morning that Holyfield's Attorney was reviewing the contract proposed by Valuev's promotor. He is being offered less than 3 quarters of a million dollars, which I certainly hope doesn't imply that he's in financial desperation to take this match.. In either case, the proposed date is December 20th so obviously a decision needs to be made quick..

$750,000 is quite low, but it doesn't surprise me. Who is going to pay Holyfield more that that to face anyone other that Mike Tyson?
I don't believe that Holyfield is in financial hardship. I believe Holyfield's current life style can only be supported by a high 6 figure income added to whatever income he has aside from fighting. A downgrade from the mansion may be the healthiest solution.
If he has to keep competing, which I hope he doesn't, he should learn how to grapple. He would take less sustained punishment to the head in mma, and he has dropped to where mma promoters can afford to pay him more than if he were boxing. At his age, I think this really means it's time to move into a smaller house.

Valuev should fight Wlad,Holyfield should only get in a Boxing ring to be introduced before a big fight NOT involving himself.Evander seems determined to end up with brain damage if he hasn't allready sustained it,what a shame it will be if he goes the Ali route and what a black eye for Boxing .

I think that Holyfield is a tragedy in the making. He does not know when to quit, and it will cost him.

Evander is broke. News broke months ago about that.

But at the same time, he's being a total idiot. Really, doesn't he get the message or something? It's sad when you're forced to come back like Joe Louis had to, but to be so mind-numbingly dumb as Evander is being...to stubbornly and recklessley ignore every warning signal and continue on some ridiculous and vain quest to win a title...really, words fail me.

To be honest, no. I read it in general a few months ago, and whomever posted it did have a link. Apparently he's also battling to pay maintenance for his kids and hasn'r done so for (at the time) two months.
But I may have said he's broke in haste. I don't have a link and haven't bothered to research it myself.

Folks on the general forum said that the article I posted was old, and that Valuev has already protested the fight happening, but I don't know if anything is officially called off, made, etc..

Last I heard was that Sauerland were very much for it, but Team Valuev and Don King really didn't want anything to do with it, seeing it as a 'foolish' and unnecessary fight.
I would guess that, potentially, they'd be the happiest of all at Vitali's WBC win. It means both Klitschkos would love to fight for the WBA title and, even if Valuev was to lose, it means a big big payday and loads of press coverage for Nikolay. That would be the 'brass ring' for Valuev at the moment I'd guess, not Holyfield.
Problem is, Valuev still needs to fulfill a December fight date and Sauerland really like Holyfield as I said so...there are still question marks. It was meant to be Kali Meehan getting his shot, so he might be a bit pissed-off if they pass him over for example.

I really don't want this fight to happen. Evander does not need to get hit over and over by a guy this size. Remember though, this fight does favor Holyfield style-wise. Holyfield performs well against bigger opponents that bring the fight to him.

If there is a police force in boxing, they won't allow this fight to happen and it shouldn't even be mentioned as an event. Holyfield needs to retire right now! There's no need for him to get more punchy en route to Ali's vegetable doorstep and possible geriatric brain damage. Forgive me but Valuev has too much oaffish, clumsy Primo Carnera characteristics written all over him. This fight is wrong for the sport.

A stupid fight being pursued by an increasingly stupid former great. If Holyfield is on his game, or what's left of it, he'll maybe win two rounds. Otherwise, expect nothing new from Holyfield or the outcome relative to all of his recent fights against the "upper echelon" of today's division.

If he's broke it's his own damn fault and I have zero sympathy for him.
