View Full Version : Why don't black boxers fighting each other always use white gloves?

Alternatively: white boxers fighting each other - black gloves...It's easier for the judges to spot what's going on, but is it also for the opponent to see and react to the punch? Is someone who is going for the KO more likely to use gloves that contrast less, but if they go for a win on points to use gloves that contrast more?

It is easier to see a white glove coming at your head than a black glove -fullstop-

...so they would only use them against black boxers when trying to impress the judges and win on points? Because there seems to be no reason otherwise...

red? Is red better? In what circumstances?

I've wondered what effect glove color has on fights, if any...now there's a research study in the making.

"Let us hit you with 12 different colored gloves, and you tell us which one was harder to track".

The colour, I believe, is mainly for appearances. I love my white gloves. Rival Boxing has some really nice looking gear.

That said, older fights where both fighters were wearing plain trunks and red Everlast gloves... can't beat how it looks.

this is not such a stupid question, I think...because white is obviously easier to spot than black...but I've noticed that particularly against black fighters, white gloves are used...presumably to help the judges see the hit better. But then...also the opponent would see the hit coming towards him...so it's not all good news...

ask a brotha what size glove he wants. . . .and he'll say "RED."

If the color of gloves is a factor in determing a punch, you aint punching right. An effective punch should be easy for a judge to see, you can see the opponents head snap or their balance alter slightly. It's only in the amature scoring system that you score by simply touching a scoring area with the white part of your glove.
