View Full Version : What has more dibilitating potential: Body shots or head shots?

I figure the body would be the best place to cause someone to go to the ground. You have the solar plexus and organs like the liver. Of course, most KO's occur from shots to the head, but if you have an open body shot, I think it would be a lot easier to bring someone down.

In a fight, I'd rather be hit with a good shot to the head than the body.

To the head most single punches don't matter that much (when you're getting hit with combinations it's a different matter), but a single punch to the liver can end it. Then again without headgear you could also break your jaw, which doesn't feel very good I imagine. Tough call, it's a draw for me :D

Theres also more spots to hit at on the body. You could even target the ribs or lower sides.

Body. Body shots suck, and it's much easier to break someone down to the body. A sustained body attack, a heavy one, will completely break someone down; I've seen it happen to guys in the amateurs even.

Really?? Was it constant attacks to the same spot? Or just getting pummeled repeatedly?

with body shots there's a far greater amount of possible internal injury, more bones to break and organs to bruise up. the effects definitely last a lot longer too unless you KTFO someone with a hell of a shot to the head.

if you are talking pros. the body would be better to work. you can come out of a daze when getting hit in the head but if you get a cracked rib you are feeling it for twelve rounds.

same with amateur even. you feel it alot more the next mourning when your body was busted up

thats cuz with body shots theres no easy off switch like a conventional KO. you're just beating the other guy into submission until his organs/body give out and he can't continue anymore.

right obviously if you only have one shot aim for the head, but the original question is overall potential in which case body is far worse.

and like i said body shots. personally if someone isnt on their game a nice angle off to the left and a hook to the diaphram would drop someone pretty quickly.

you hit someone hard enough it won't matter where the shot lands. That's my personal philosophy.

Repeated pummeling all over the place. This kid I know who's 132 is a nasty body puncher.

Would you recommend going to the body in the armatures then?

A body shot brought out the funniest thing I've ever heard in a ring. 3rd santioned match...hit my opponent in the solarplex and he yelped like a dog. Loud too. So loud and strange, it caught me off guard and I giggled and lost my focus. Sounded like if you accidentally step on a dogs tail or something.

A few weeks after that, got hit really hard when sparring , but in the liver...and I had a better understanding of what that was about. Couldn't move and just waited to throw up. Didn't puke on the canvas, but sure thought I was gonna. No fun at all.

unless its in the forehead, thigh, or bicep or something odd like that.

actually the bicep and shoulders can cause cramping and tire the shit out of you making you drop your arm. one good punch can make your lead arm useless. that is what happend to one of my teammates at the national junior olympcs. his shoulder got fucked up bad.

ofcourse but just throwing 1 shot and hittin someone in the bicep would just piss them off. atleast it would me anyways.

Exactly, have a look at this amateur fight from England. The fighter in the red corner is my son. The other fighter is now No.3 in England at Open Class. And a lot heavier than I was told that night. With the sustained body shots.... F/F to the 3rd. round..... you can see the fighter has no fight in him. You can see him bend over to be sick, then it goes to the decision. Bad editing really. I'd never seen anybody spew up in the ring before like that.

Body shots are so underrated. Every person I've ever hurt in sparring has been via body shots. People just don't seem to give them the attention they deserve, and you can really surprise people with a good body attack. But having said that I find that it's a lot harder to land good body shots than head shots. People focus on the melon for good reason: it's the most obvious place to do some damage. I mean 90% of the body shots I've copped I've barely felt them, you really have to hit the sweet spot. And competition wise often they're not given the scoring impact they deserve. So the point is you can invest in body shots and have nothing to show for it at the end, but when you land a good one, it's a fight changer. You've gotta have a good body attack to be a complete fighter. It also opens up the defense around the head as they become wary of getting hit to the body.
