This is an interesting match-up.Smith can match Davis's speed punch for punch but Davis punches better in combinations.
Smith has a little more pop in his punches and both have questionable chins.
I'll take Smith by suprise 9th round stoppage.

After 1985, Davis would lose to Smith by a decision, pre-85, the other way around.

I think Smith's biggest problems were mental. He had all the speed and skill in the world.

I'd take Davis by UD.

I think Davis fought better competition than Smith, and that would help him if this was 85 and before.

Howard was faster than Lonnie, and he would win by a UD.Of course, he didn't have the greatest chin, and at some point, in round seven, he would get floored, but Smith, at best, would only win three rounds against Davs.

This is a really interesting matchup. I wonder how Lonnie would deal with someone as fast as himself. Davis arguably beat a nearing prime Meldrick Taylor.
I think there's a possibillity that Lonnie could blast Davis out, but I think Davis' superior technique and consistency would get him a decision more often than not. That sounds a bit silly as I write it, but what I mean is Lonnie did a lot of goofy shit (walking away, not looking at his opponent, trying to set traps), which almost seemed like he was just trying to kill time in a round. Just seems to me like Davis could bring what he had more consistently throughout a fight.
