Listen Hopkins is a ignorant idiot who thinks he has the wisdom of Sun Tzu

So if Hopkins gets beaten up and knocked out it would be quite satisfying to see not to mention the anticaption and demand for Calzaghe to face Pavlik after a performance like that

However I am making my prediction of my mind not my heart

Hopkins TKO for me

Who has ever stopped Hopkins before - Calzaghe said he was gonna and he didnt come closeCalzaghe didn't have the power to even rattle Hopkins. With his fragile hands he stopped punching hard some years ago.

Hopkins hasn't faced anybody like Pavlik since I don't know when. Pavlik is strong enough to fight his own fight, and will not get dragged down by old man spoiling tactics. When Hopkins wants a breather, Pavlik won't let him.

I'm not saying Hopkins can't win this, but he can't keep fighting at this level for ever.

GazOC
10-17-2008, 07:40 PM
I'm posting from work Flint, I'm as sober as they come. I think Pavlik will be able put Hopkins under enough pressure that he'll run out of steam and be a sitting duck for Pavliks heavy punches. Calzaghe knew he could win even if he didn't pressure Hopkins 3 minutes of every round so didn't need to force the pace (Hopkins was still fucked at the end) or hit him with heavy punches, Pavlik on the otherhand needs to pressure Hopkins in order to win and has naturally pretty heavy hands.

Pavlik isnt as fast and smart a fighter as Calzaghe. I would like to see Hopkins win and im sure he'll have his moments in the fight.

But Pavlik will prolly win this based on youth overcoming Bernards diminished stamina.

Pavlik 115-113... He'll try and box Hopkins at range. Get nailed and drawn into a bit if a brawl but he'll be too fresh and will take a slightly clearer verdict then Calzaghe. A stoppage either way is highly unlikely, Hopkins is too smart to get nailed by Pavliks predictable punch selection and Hopkins doesn't have the speed or ferocity to wobble then stop the resilient Pavlik nor the one punch power to take him out..

As Flint said, Hopkins is a 'crafty fucker' and will make it really awkward for Pavlik. Also, I Pavlik won't punch as hard at the higher. There was an interview posted a few months back on the general forum where Pavlik's trainer said the only worry he has with Pavlik stepping up is that he doesn't have enough snap in his punches, as shown in the second Taylor fight.

PrideOfWales

Unchartered water for Pavlik - Hopkins is by far the smartest fighter Pavlik has ever seen. Two fights with Taylor can't prep him for this. What happens when regular punches don't work? What happens when Pavlik can't get into a rhythm? What happens when he can't land and finds himself knackered after running around chasing all night? Too many ??'s for me to pick Pavlik for this fight. We all know what Hopkins is about.

The prediction: The general forum will be in meltdown this time tomorrow with use of the words such as "over-rated bum".

brown bomber
10-18-2008, 08:23 AM
Calzaghe thought that too - and was looking up at the arena lights in the first round wondering where he was The knockdown was caused by one well timed counter- not a ferocious burst of fast, power shots. My point is Pavlik has demonstrated remarkable resiliance so a well timed counter might well put him over but its highly unlikely that he will score a one punch KO. Additionally Hopkins is not an aggresive fighter... he's unlikely to his Pavlik with anywhere near the tenacity Taylor managed in round 2 of the first fight.

GazOC

You can tell when a fighter isn't hurt by a knockdown, they look embarrassed. Calzaghe looked embarrassed, he just got caught a little square and paid the price.

To be honest i really don't know :think

Pavlik is young heavy handed fantastic work rate and that is everything you need to beat hopkins who is even older now.

But

Hopkins can tottaly ruin any ones game plan and spoil (old man) fighters to fighting his kind of fight, plus im not overly sold on pav's chin and hopkins is sneaky with hurtfull counters.

Ok to conclude :patsch

Pavlik wins this one for me, hopkins runs out of steam and either gets stopped late (i can't beleive ive said that) or loses a ud. Of course i think there is every chance hopkins can catch pav and finish him but he will have to show more then the last fight and im not sure he can do it not at 43 anyway. Old hops is just so cagey :think

Opinion is certainly divided on this one....and I can see why, there are many ifs and buts which could swing this fight in any direction....

For Pavlik - he has speed, hunger and power (although not really sure at the higher weight).
For Hopkins - he has true ring craftmanship and knows how to nulify opponents strengths.

I see Pavlik showing up good in the first 2-3 rounds but after Hopkins takes his big shots Pavlik will question himself.
Then I see Hopkins take a few scrappy rounds and by the mid point the fight will be pretty close.
The second half of the fight is where it will be won or lost imo.
Much depends on if Hopkins still has enough in the tank. Pavlik will keep coming forward throwing and pressuring and if Hopkins can deal with it I see him taking control in the later rounds and possibly even stopping Pavlik :yikes

I just think that if Calzaghe wasn't fast enough to regularly trouble Hopkins then Pavlik will struggle.

Hopkins TKO Round 9.

However if Hopkins has finally started to feel his age then I can also see Pavlik stopping him early. In which case.

Pavlik TKO Round 3.

If pushed I would have to lean towards a late Hopkins win though

TFFP
10-18-2008, 04:14 PM
He did get a couple of shots off in the first round. At least one jab and a hook I think. Neither did shit.

This is because Enzo's power is vastly overrated. He hasn't knocked anybody good out. He hit Braithwaite with the kitchen sink and did not budge him an inch. Guillermo Jones ripped Big Truck apart. That is the difference between genuine power and overrated power based on a high KO ratio against cans.

FLINT ISLAND

Agree totally, Pavlik looked haunted at the end of the fight as a clearly emotional BHop gave him a verbal going over. But what a performance from Hopkins; a true masterclass. He made Pavlik look very very ordinary and I don't think he's a bad fighter.

In truth, I fancied Hopkins to negate Pavlik by mauling and cancelling out his big right hand; not by matching him toe-to-toe and out thinking and out boxing him in every department.

The only thing that spoiled it for me, and I don't know why, was that fekin stupid mask. Come on Bernard, you're 40+ mate; but maybe he too wants to fight the Big show on WWE!

PrideOfWales
10-19-2008, 08:49 AM
Pavlik is flat, he fights exactly the same every fight. Same pace, same combos. Last night was no different. I've never been blown away by Pavlik and his hype - there are consistant, obvious flaws and if you can move out of his punching range, a decent boxer will beat him. Hopkins is exceptional and the step up to his class (not weight) was just too much for Pavlik last night.

Jeff was correct about Pavlik taking shots well - he took beefy shots in pretty much every round - I thought at one point he was going to quit on his stool but credit goes to his heart and guts.

Hopkins was exposing Pavlik's lack of change of pace - when Hopkins put on a burst, Pavlik couldn't live with him. He just kept plodding forward (when not being backed up). The fight wasn't really that much of a surprise to me to be honest as Hopkins performance levels against Calzaghe were still very high.
