SOME GREAT VALUE in today's Caulfield Cup which will be run at 4:05pm EDT. Anyone having a bet should seriously consider backing their selection each way as you're assured of making money as long as your horse runs in the first three.
If you're feeling lucky then throw a few horses in an exacta or a quinella as they always pay well in these big events.
From the moment markets opened I've been on Zagreb so I can't back out now (not that I want to) BUT I am concerned that he may get a little to far back in a race that doesn't appear to have much pace.
With a firm track and the rail out six meters it spells danger for any horse that races worse than midfield. Interesting fact is that 5 of the last 13 winners have been in the first two as they past the 800m mark....that's virtually unheard of in any race.
Although both Guillotine and Maldivian have drawn shocking barriers I doubt that they'll have to do to much work to get to the front. Both are top class gallopers who will give a great sight for your money and if you are doing quinellas, exactas or trifectas they must be included. Red Ruler is the knockout horse who only has to avoid trouble from barrier 1....although he is such a big horse he does need plenty of room to stretch out and wind up before he can show his best. The other Kiwis, AJC Derby winner Nom Du Jeu and NZ Oaks winner Boundless also have good chances at great odds.
Anyone wanting to take a chance on a longshot should take a very close look at Ice Chariot. While it's been a while since he has won a race there have been valid excuses for a horse that vastly improves on a firm surface. Ice Chariot has won at the track and over the distance and is peaking at just the right time after three placings from three starts this preparation over unsuitable distances. He'll be around 40/1.
1st Zagreb 9/1
2nd Guillotine 9/1
3rd Maldivian 16/1
4th Red Ruler 16/1
5th Ice Chariot 40/1
Away from the Cup there's some other nice bets at good odds;
Race 2: 9 Freedom March
Race 3: 6 Caymans
Race 6: 9 Bernicia
Race 7: 7 Musket

I have the Littorio / Master O'Reilly quinella.
I have Zagreb in my Tri and apprehensively left out Red Ruler due to barrier 1, hope I don't regret it.
Im still deciding on a value bet between Riva San, Mad Rush & Nom Du Jour.

Huge runs by the winner, Mad Rush, Nom de Jeu and Master O.

Nom Du Jeu, Ice Chariot and Master O'Reilly put in huge Melbourne Cup trials as did the winner (All The Good) and Mad Rush.
Scarey thing is that Septimus is considered as the class horse among the Europeans while the Caulfield Cup winner, All The Good, is considered to be a Group 3 horse at best.
I believe that the race is already out of reach for all Australians apart from Efficient and Zagreb if he makes the field.

I took the 20's in doubles but all I've got left in Efficient in the MC(20x8) who'll no doubt break down and die before the race.
I just dont win doubles going at 160/1
I did get Maldivian at 16s but a Zipping win still would have been a better result....unless Efficient goes on to win the Melbourne Cup.
BTW, did anyone like my speed map? It was close to perfect and predicted the winner and all...

What part of "I'll be having something on Maldivian" didn't you understand.....I also had the quinella within the horses that could win and not one horse ran a place that I stated could not.
You call me Richard Callander and I'll call you my bitch.... :deal
It's over to you slut guts to give us your Melbourne Cup selection.

It's one thing to tip the winner in a 12 horse field at WFA on a specialist track like Moonee Valley....but to even try aqnd pick the Cup winner before Mackinnon Stakes/ Derby Day.....:rofl  :rofl
Why do you think I challenged Slut Guts to do it ?
There's so many variables....
1. The field is far from decided with some needing to do well on Saturday.
2. Horses that run in the Saab or the Mackinnon can make the field with a win, some even a placing will do.
3. Some horses currently within the 24 horse field can be leapfrogged and miss out.
4. The VRC have the right to omitt a runner even if it has fully qualified, a real possibility with the large number of imported gallopers.
5. The race is a handicap.
6. There's 24 horses in the race...and a hard luck story is a certainty.
7. Certain punters have come close to perfecting the Indian Rain Dance. Until we know weather the whether will be nice or not I aint even going to bother spelling it correctly.
8. Some horses that are doing well leading up to the race do poorly on the Saturday (Mackinnon/Saab) and they NEVER win the Cup.
9. A 3yr old that wins the Derby can run in the Melbourne Cup.
10. There's always a late scratching, injury or rumor that usually has a major impact.
That said, Efficient's a certainty to win back to back Cups. :thumbsup

Make Heaps ?
You ever heard of the saying "small fish are sweet" ? I first heard it at the racetrack, supposed to mean that one should be happy with the small wins or some shit.
My response is that small fish have those little fucken bones that get caught in the back of your throat.....anyhows,
To make "Heaps" out of punting requires two things, time and lots money....I have neither. By lots of money I mean enough to cover a bad losing streak, you know, lose 100 bet 200 down 300 bet 500 down 800 bet 1000 down 1800 bet 3000....and so on.
What I do have is a love of the thoroughbred and thoroughbred racing so I have a small investment now and then on my favourite horses (as one would with their favourite footy team).
Every so often I'll have a good go on something that I come across if I believe all the stars are in alignment....but we are talking about midgets on 650kg animals running at over 50kms...anything can happen.
Simple rule, if you can't afford to lose it then don't back it.
As far as the wife's concerned it's an acceptable vice as I don't drink, smoke or participate in pharm parties. The catch is that she puts the taxman to shame and she has a knack of knowing when I've scored a big win.
Could have something to do with the lack of cursing those fucking inbred midget cunts....

As if to prove my point just how hard it is to predict the Melbourne Cup winner until after Saturday, news just came through that Efficient has been withdrawn from this years Cup.
I would rather have been proven wrong.
