What the hell. I sky plused the pavlik vs hopkins fight last night and it didnt tape it all, just all the fights before. i get that they have the preview show thats free to boost subscriptions but what the fuck, they could have warned us. It would have taken 30 secs in the boxing hour for the to say. they even made a joke about it on the show "hope some people who sky + wern't disapointed"
i then had to watch the show at 12pm, which shows no fighter interviews or post fight recaction. also they cut out the 4th round.
anyone who goes on this forum reguarly knows i stick up for setanta all the time. but what the fuck was this about.

Yes they did fuck up.
Luckily for me I stayed up to watch it anyway but I have 3 versions of Pavlik/Hopkins on Sky+.
For some reason one ended and another started in round 2 :huh

I almost done the same thing. Went to the TV guide to record it, then luckily scrolled across to find out when the show ended and saw that it was in fact broke into 3 segments, so recorded all three.
In addition those breaks between the three segments didn't mean shit, and were not natural breaks. I had to back up and move on to the next recorded segment when the Luevano-Dib fight was still going on, same thing happening just after the start of the Hopkins-Pavlik fight.

could of been the fact the tv schedule was fuked up it had the fight listed as pavlik vs hopkins 3am - 4:15am , pavlik vs hopkins 4:15am - 4:45am, pavlik vs hopkins 4:45 - 7:00am thats how it was listed on my EPG

I hate it when they do this because you can't copy the fight to disk or tape without making cuts. I watched it live but why couldn't they had the Sky Plus programme from 3:00am to 6:00am instead of 3:00am to 4:15am, then 4:15am to 4:45am and finally 4:45 till 7:00am. The same happens with Sky when there American live coverage lasts longer than the Sky Plus programme which makes you have to tape the programme afterwards just incase.

I never made a SKY Plus joke.
They cut the 4th round from the repeat?
Had I known there were potential problems I would have mentioned it on the show.
I will be looking for some answers on Monday morning.
Trust me on this one.

You can, if you set up a manual recording on Sky+.
I did that when I noticed the broadcast was split into 3 shows... Setanta 1, 3:00am - 7:00am. :good

I've said it before but an hour just isn't long enough to repeat a big fight when it goes 12 rounds. It needs to be 90 minutes, at least for the first week or so to let people capture some of the atmosphere and build up.

Yeah, they fucked up. God knows why they did it, and God knows why they showed the undercard in 4:3 format. Good coverage but Setanta slipped back a rngon the ladder in my opinion.

It might seem like a silly thing but what really annoyed me was the box in the top right saying "subscribe". If I have paid to subscribe I shouldn't get a big box in the way telling me to subscribe.
Surely anyone watching the Hopkins fight must have subscribed anyway so why on Earth was the box there during the fight?!

On Setanta broadband they have it on the archive service, but in three separate chunks. I clicked on the wrong one and went straight to the 2nd round of the main event instead of the start of the show.
Why can't they just get things right?

Why can't they just get things right? They are a lot more unorganised and their shows are a lot less polished than Sky's but on the other hand I do prefer Bunce and Andy to Sky's team and, more importantly, they do show more or less every big fight.

Yep, the bottom line is that they are showing the fights and Sky arn't. I can live with the little niggles (but not major ones like when MAB-Pac cut off after the 10th round)
Just watching the reply, as Rob said they've totally cut the 4th round out!!

I thought I was still drunk from last night, I was sure the 4th round was cut out too but I put it down to me being stupid. It appears I was correct.
Yes, the bottom line is they are showing the big fights. But there are still making plenty amateurish mistakes that must be corrected if they are to become the premium sports channel that they aim to be.

I manual record shows on my sky plus usually from 2am to 7am. Its annoying when sky plus fails a recording which does happen sometimes.

I watched on freeview and I had to switch channel halfway through the fight to continue the coverage. Now that's bad enough, however, channel 38 (the channel i had to switch to) didn't actually work meaning I stayed up all night, watched the undercard, the first few rounds of the main event and then all I got was a bloody top-up screen telling me I had to subscribe/activate or something.
It's a bloody pisstake. How am I supposed to check a channel that I only ever get access to a few times a year at 5 in the morning on a Sunday?
In the end I had to settle for a crappy web live-stream. Why can't Setanta get the rights to broadcast till 6 in the morning? That time would solve the majority of freeview fight problems. I hardly ever see main events go past 6.
Regards,
One very pissed off Setanta customer.

sorry if this is off topic
basically i used to have sky digital, with a few of the sports chanells,
then i cancelled that way back in 2004 or something
but i kept the sky box, now it just has the "free" channels like bbc3 etc, buts its still a sky digital box
so can i order setanta using this or what?
i dont want to order setanta and then find it i cant get it installed, cos i dont actually have a tv arieal in the room, just what comes down the satalite so i cant get a freeview box

This is really poor.
One solution (which luckily I had set up) is to series link when the next boxing is on (green button I think on the planner) then you'll get everything including all future shows, even when they break it up like this.
Not sure exactly how it works (given that the title of the shows are always different) but it does.
This was how Haye-Mormeck was recorded even though I was on hols and didn't know setanta had it :good

you will not be able to view setanta as you need to be an existing sky customer to get setanta through a sky box.

Hi there all. Newbie here. Just read this and thought I would correct you, I have a Setanta subscription through Sky but don't have a Sky subscription. All they ask you for is your sky viewing card number which I kept when I cancelled Sky.
Missing the 4th round in the highlights is poor form. Setanta always seem to make small little botches each fight that makes them look feeble. If they could iron these hiccups then we really can’t grumble whatever you think about their presenters/analysts. Considering the amount of stateside boxing they show for less than a packet of fags a week it really isn't all that bad unless you want pay £15 a fight plus subscription on Sky Box Office again which was daylight robbery.

I have no Sky and get Setanta through an old Sky box. You don't need to be a Sky customer.

Correct, you subscribe with Setanta not Sky.
