The way I work at fantasy match ups is try to figure out who I would be picking on fight night, having weight all factors, preperation, weight etc., whatever it might be.

In that instance I have to say I would pick Charles every time. If I was gambling it would probably never be on Monzon. However, he is a great fighter. I can't see anyone at or around the weight beating him 5 times...it's just I would pick him each fight night.

I guess, in these cirumstances, I'll predict four wins for Charles.

All time greats, which both of these guys are, are difficult to beat 5 out of 5..Lamotta and Pep won one each against their respective nemisis', Robinson and Saddler.I think Charles would have the edge here, because Ez was a bit bigger and more athletic than Carlos, and proved he could fight heavys and light heavys , which Monzon did not.But somewhere along the line , Monzon would have figured out how to beat Ez, if just once out of five.So I'm saying Charles wins four out of five against Carlos.

I would expect light heavyweight Charles to win about 4.

If its at Light heavyweight then Ezzard would win every fight but at 160 I think it would be 3-2 to Monzon due to his experience at that weight compared to Charles.

Charles was somewhat immature and still not quite the fighter he would become when he fought at middle. Monzon should take this series 3-2 or
4-1 at middle.
Once Charles matures into a lightheavy, I think Monzon would have to be viewed as a big underdog. 1 victory out of 5 at most, and I would expect Charles to sweep.

Tough task for Monzon fighting a top 5 175. Some still say Charles chin was a bit suss but Monzon's a middleweight and not a huge puncher. Tough match, just like Hagler - Spinks etc. The great bigger man is the goods.

It would be a lot like the Bernard Hopkins vs. Winky Wright matchup. The extra weight mostly slowed down Wright, who's really a light middleweight but can hold his own with anyone up to light heavyweight, maybe even some cruiserweights.

But Monzon was a "big middleweight," making most middleweights look like welterweights. He could have handled 168 or 175 better than, say, Marvelous Marvin Hagler (and I'm a HUGE fan of Hagler).

With Charles at 175 and Monzon at 168, I'd say it's 60/40 in favor of Charles. Their styles were so different, which might favor Monzon's unorthodox approach. He had that granite jaw and smothering style that seem to be part of the Argentinian genetic makeup. (Even Alejandra Marina Oliveras shares these traits.) With both at 168 I'd tip the balance toward Monzon if only because a prime Ezzard Charles would be dried out at anything under 175.

Agreed. At 175 lbs. I give only a few some chances, and that isn´t surely Monzon, a man at 160 lbs...
