Interesting...........
why does everyone think thaxton is some kinda superman...im a fan, but he is a good domestic level fighter who never made it on the world stage.....i think khan should fight thaxton, he is gonna have to face much more dangerous foes on his way up if, indeed, he continues his rise to stardom.....he will fight thaxton in a totally different way than he approached limmond, and, i feel, will be succesful......too fast, too skilled......anyone who fights jon knows exactly what they are gonna get and if khan cant adapt his style to meet and beat these kinda fighters he has no place on the european, never mind world stage...

how old was thaxton when he fought for his first british title - he was 25, 28 when he fought for his forst commonwealth title, and 32 when he won his first meaningful title (british)
Why he is calling out 20 year old novices. Yes the kids got a mouth but which boxers dont (Thaxton obviously does), super Willie excepted. If this is not one final bid for a big payday I dont know what is..

Not going to happen. Khan's not 21 till December and so wouldn't be eligible to fight for the British title till after that.

Maybe he sees Khan ranked very highly in the WBC(18th) and WBO(10th) World rankings and a chance for him to enter those rankings . Maybe he sees beating the most well known boxer in the country as a way to get him in the spotlight . Khan's #10 with the EBU too(and those rankings haven't been updated since he beat #6 Limond) and a win over him could help get Jon a European title shot .
Thaxton doesn't have a big mouth , this is the only time in his career he's even appeared a bit brash and it's probably just to get public attention so this fight can be made . Not to mention Khan said himself that the British level guys should fight him now before he's above them  , and Jon's willing to do just that .
So what if Khan can't fight for the British title yet , why not have this for just the commonwealth then ?

AS I've said before, I like Thaxton a lot, both as a fighter and as a person. However, you are quite correct that recently he's been made out to be some sort of monster that will slay Khan with ease. It's strange how people's opinion change once a bandwagon starts rolling!! Thaxton is a good fighter........Khan is a bit special. Khan would win despite the flaws he still needs to go to the States to work on with some decent trainers

still a little early to take on thaxton in my opinion.
khan should be looking for guys like meager and stewart at the moment.
thaxton and earl in a few fights time.
thaxton has a win win here...if the fight was made and he lost, it would have had to be a non title fight anyhow due to amirs age....so he keeps his title..and gets a decent payday...in the meantime, the khan band wagon rolls on and they aventually meet in a rematch for the title..for more money than the first time...payday #2 for thaxton...and khan.......probably good business for them both.......or maybe im just a cynic..

Why is their there this rule about being 21 before you can fight for a british title.
Surely if your good enough, your old enough.
Names like Ali and Tyson springand thats at heavyweight although Amir cant really be mentioned in the same breath as these guys.

I'd be surprised if he ever fights either of them.
you can box for the british title when your 20 years old i do not know where this 21 rule thing has come from it is not in the rule book.

There are all sorts of stupid rules about age. He very nearly didn't get to represent us at the olympics because of a similar policy, but he told them he was going to the olympics one way or the other and if they wouldn't let him box for Great Britain then he'd box for ****stan.

It is not stupid, this sport is very dangerous, young fighters should not be thrown into the ring against potentially dangerous veterans, it is very good sense IMO.

why does everyone think khan is some kind of superman?? he is also a domestic level fighter.

i dont dispute that..its just that jon thaxton seems to be perceived as some tysonesque dragon slayer, and, as i commented, although i am a fan..he has had his day in the sun...and he got burnt...

Khan is very special. Very very special.
The most special in the sport.
Very special.
Aye right pal, he was one punch away from being KTFO from Willie Limond. Very special my arse. Take the rose tinted glasses off before they give you a headache. The kids one of the biggest hype jobs going
I don't understand all the hating on Amir Khan't take a punch. Seriously, I heard that he was eating to many jaw breakers before the fight and his jaw was sore. He wasn't even out on his feet, he was sliding across the ropes because his back was itchy and he couldn't scratch it with his glove.
Did you think he actually went down, hahaha wrong again, Khan was simply trying to tie his laces and Limond pushed him over. Amir Tomatoe Khan wasn't confused when he took a knee during the count. You can obviously see Frank ****** wasn't worried and was giving him advise by saying take a knee not fuck me.

Khan is obviously slick & skilled but is very overhyped...............He showed bollocks against Limond granted but he also showed some BIG flaws..........Maybe a few yrs with an A level coach across the water could iron some of these frailties out but I still think he's very overated.......

He's fighting Scott Lawton in October. Scott will give him some problems with the rangy jab, but Amir will eventually get to him. Scott has a distinct lack of power doesnt he...

initially i saw this as a step down from limond, but i guess they are on a similiar level really. limond is probably more skillful, but at least we'll get to see khan in with a full lightweight who he has no height/reach advantage over, and who gave thaxton a decent fight.
khan really needs to use this fight to show he's learned from the limond kd. if he gets through it and isn't troubled at all by lawton, whilst winning impressively, only then will he be ready to be moved on.

Khan has the speed and the skills but he hasn't got the chin. If Khan does win a World title and defend it a few times it will be more down to Frank ******s skills at protecting a fighter rather than Khan being genuine.
A pity as Khan looked to have something special but you can't build muscles on a chin and at World Championship level Khan is going to get tagged.
i see jon thaxton is lined up to fight 6ft lightweight Dave Stewart in october...he's 20-1 (5 ko's) although the record looks somewhat inflated.
